How does Accor treat you as an Elite guest?

I equally enjoyed my stay there back in April. I am curious to know how you managed to pull the quoted part off?
@CaptainCurtis I received an email from The Pullman welcoming me to my upcoming stay. I replied and also asked them to add in my Accor number. When checking in I asked if they had added my Accor number, which they said they did but as it was booked through Qantas Hotels I would not receive the Accor points. So I left it at that and knew I would have a few food and beverage points earned.

On return I looked at my Accor account and noticed that I received about 1750 points so I figured I earned them for my stay and food.
However I also received Qantas points worth I'd say 3 x accomodation stay points. about 3500 points. However I thought the Qantas deal was a special one earning much more points than I got. Unfortunately I did not take a screen shot and the link to the offer is now longer available.

How many points did you receive for you stay? 3 x or better? Do you have a saved screen shot?

@kangarooflyer88 thanks for your post. Yes this is the points I think I got. But there was aQantas email sent out on the 22nd Feb, quoting a special rate, with inclusions and extra bonus points, I thought. But I really enjoyed my stay and can't complain.

I received 4.5 QFF points per dollar, but I am a Points Club Plus member, so receive a 50% bonus.

You did well to get the hotel to add your Accor number - they wouldn't add it to my booking on account of booking through Qantas Hotels.

Accor will be the one pushing the buttons for you to get your QFF points, so I'd be chasing them. There will be an API of some kind that the Accor team uses, which they load data into for generating the detail on what amount of points need to be credited to which members. They would choose how often they run that process. QFF just bills Accor for the points that they buy.

Yeah that does make sense, I confused myself a little with the whole bidirectional Accor / QFF partnership but at the end of the day I suspect it's as you've described it, Accor doing the QFF award side of it.

I've reviewed this property a couple of times and really like it, most of my comments from previous reviews (here and here) stand so I will focus more on anything new/different to previous stays.

I was greeted by name on arrival at the Front Desk as the staff member remembered helping me with a rather bulky package delivery on a previous stay. No mention of an upgrade or my loyalty but still very friendly and handed a welcome drink voucher so I figured my ALL number must have been on the booking. (more on this later) The room was a one-category upgrade to the Superior King, again happy with this for a short stay, it's a functional and comfortable size for one person.

Welcome gift was two bottles of Boags and some decent chocolates. There was also a slip asking if I'd like to opt-out of housekeeping in exchange for $10 F&B credit or 300 points. 300 points is €6 / AU$9 so I opted for that. Great deal given I'm staying alone for two nights and the room has two full sets of towels...

As occupancy is picking up, breakfast has changed to buffet - I loved the a la carte menu so a bit sad to see it go, but the buffet spread was pretty good. The kitchen will make an omelette, poached or fried eggs on request. Not pictured were baked beans, scrambled eggs, hash browns, and the fridge with various yoghurts. There's a self-serve tea & Nespresso stand but they also offer barista made coffee... (not sure why you'd go for the Nespresso?)

Had an odd experience at breakfast where my room number wasn't on the printed list of rooms with included breakfasts. After I showed my Plat card the waiter happily seated me and went off to double check with the front desk. He then said the Front Desk only sees my status as Gold, so I head over to show them my card. The front desk confirms my number is entered correctly, then removes and reenters it and suddenly could see I was Platinum. Considering I haven't been Gold for 6 months and only made this booking a few weeks ago I've no idea what's going on, but it did make me wonder if I got a Gold or Plat upgrade... 🙃

Miss Mi's dinner service has also significantly changed - it was previously a $95pp set menu and is now a more reasonable a la carte menu, far better for solo business travellers who don't want a degustation, or more likely can't justify expensing that much for dinner.

I went for the Borneo Boar Sausage & Fermented Chilli, Seasonal Wok Fried Veges, and the Biodynamic Aromatic Rice ... because I wanted to see how good a $10 rice could be. I also used my drink voucher on a (tapped) Deeds XPA.

The sausages were excellent and chilli sauce had a real kick, a bit like Hainanese chicken chilli sauce. The greens were what you'd expect, and the rice was nice with lots of ginger & lemongrass but probably not $10 worth if I'm honest. Total cost after the Accor Plus 25% discount was $33 which I thought was very reasonable, and I'll try to come back again on a future visit with my partner as I think 50% off here would be a steal.

Fairly standard stay otherwise, great to see tourism picking back up.

I may have been looking over at you from my so so stay at the new HIE on little Collins over the weekend. I looked at the Movenpick but the HIE rate was the most attractive of the new kids on the block. Maybe next time!

You'd want a Nespresso if you want proper coffee not this barista nonsense. And I know people are gonna say freshly ground blah, blah, blah. But do you really think a $150 grinder is gonna be as consistent as the multimillion dollar equipment Nestle uses in their Nespresso factories? Also, those capsules are nitrogen filled for freshness. All I'm saying is Nespresso has been around longer than I have been alive, if it was garbo we wouldn't see boutiques everywhere from Sydney to Montréal and London.

Otherwise though, good review on the Mövenpick in Melbourne. The welcome gift was a bit chintzy if you ask me (maybe that's because they saw you as being a lowly Gold?) I also wonder what caused the Accor status not to populate correctly? I'd like to think it's got something to do with the Corporate TA, as I recall my previous employer having issues booking United tickets with my Premier number plugged in. That being said, I think the lesson here is to confirm your status during check-in, particularly if you have a status worth fighting for (i.e. Platinum). In any event, - I plan on staying at the Pullman Albert Park, hopefully it will hold a candle up to this property in terms of amenities.

Do you also prefer a loaf of Tip Top over sourdough, or canned spaghetti over the real deal? Those were produced using multi-million dollar equipment and have been preserved for freshness?

To flip that logic around, if it wasn't garbage, why wouldn't Nespresso charge $4+ per pod? Pods fills the gap between powdered coffee and cafes, and they're priced as such. Nestle themselves are conceding they aren't as good as a cafe in their pricing!

The beers? See my previous reviews, they have it on file that I like beer.

My corporate TA does have issues communicating ALL numbers to Accor properties, which is why I emailed the Movenpick directly two weeks ago to ensure my number was on the booking...

Sorry but Nespresso is average IMO
Thats not saying all barista coffee is good but the overwhelming majority I’ve found are.
We have a top of the range Nespresso machine at home that I’ve used about 5 times in 2 years, we still go down to one of the local cafes instead.
As for the beers, they will have profiles on record and will often try to cater for that, for instance they know we prefer white wine so will often get that rather than bubbly or a red.
 
Interesting - didn't realise it had opened. How was it?
I believe it opened in March. The rooms (in fact most of it) looks identical to the HIE Southbank but a slightly nicer address.

Apart from bonus points, no amenity (drink vouchers). As an IHG Plat, no noticeable upgrade - even though my status was mentioned at least three times during checkin…

The comp breakfast was pretty ordinary.

But for a short stay, if the price is right you can do a lot worse (like the Ibis Styles Kingsgate our room looked down on - literally).

I’ve had similar issues on two recent stays:

1. Personal booking, made direct with Accor. In this case I wasn’t on the breakfast list but my status was correctly recorded in the system as confirmed by front desk.

2. Work trip via Corp TA. No welcome, no gift, no upgrade. Nothing. Turned out my Accor number wasn’t in the booking. I’d never had this issue in dozens of stays booked with same Corp TA and same property.

Weird thing was that once the front desk entered my Accor number it showed me as Gold, despite being Plat!

It was sorted eventually, but after some back-and-forth with Accor, it turns out that as you progress through the status tiers your Accor member number changes. Just the last digit.

How do people know when they've been upgraded from a classic to a superior room? I don't know the differences.

Usually you’re told something at checkin? But you often see the new room details in the relevant hotel app (or website). I think I’ve seen an upgrade in the Accor app. Hilton will show your upgrade before arriving. I hadn’t noticed before, but a recent IHG stay showed up in the app that my room had change from Standard to Superior.

Another thing I often do is look at the fire escape floor plan on the back of the door. You’ll get an idea of how your room compares (at least to the rest of floor).
 
I have seen on surveys they send me after a stay that it asks if my 'Gold expectations" were met. I have addressed this on three surveys however I am Plat and the hotels have acknowledged that on check in. "I see you are a Platinum member, welcome and thank you for staying with us" or something similar. My last survey yesterday also mentioned Gold. Welcome gifts are very varied. I am so over 2 small Bottled Perrier waters and a chocolate at the Sofitel Brisbane...last stay was two chocolates but at least the Lounge is available and there are two welcome drink vouchers. Some of the hotels offer 750ml wine and a basket of sorts. Very random. I have been Plat for about a year.
