Nice stay, on edge of city, few mins walk to cuba st.

Happy both rooms upgraded,Interconnected rooms made Mrs Mort happy so had the front desk open them as even though the kids are old enough to manage their own room she likes to have them close.

Chocolate Hour was ok, have seen nicer at other locations, was a novelty for the kids.

Breakfast buffet options were above average, could order eggs to order , plus waffles and pancakes, barista coffee extra from what I could tell (I’m a tea drinker)

Staff were friendly, but hotel seemed understaffed at some points.

Accor+ food discounts worthwhile, 50% off makes a big difference to a nice meal (while the kids get uber eats cause the restaurant is too fancy 😀)

It’s more 4 star than 5 star, though at the price could not complain I’d stay there again for the price.

I’ve included some random pics

Another good thing I found about the Porter house in Sydney is that they don’t actually charge anything for the room unless you ask them to.

On checkout they mentioned my drinks and snack at the bar and I said okay to that and email me the invoice. When I looked at the invoice later there was no room charge (it was a flexible booking).

I phoned them, and they very sheepishly acknowledged yes, they hadn’t charged me and thank you for calling. 😊

Free minibar is a published benefits for Platinums at the MGallery brand

Edit: re-reading your post - they didn't charge you for the room? Or drinks in the room?

I'm trying to decide between SO/ or Sofitel Auckland Viaduct Harbour for my next AKL DSC pilgrimage. Any recent experiences? How do the lounges for ALL plats compare between the two?

Have not tried the So, looks nice and I suspect a much better option than the Viaduct location wise. The Sofitel is at the end of a long line of hotel failures and actually went bust during covid taking a few deposits, I didn’t enjoy my stay pre COVID.

I am not a huge fan of Pullmans but the Auckland property is one I would revisit, and has a lounge on the top floor that’s does not get crowded

I stayed at the SO/ this time last year. Location is great, can't comment on the lounge as I didn't have access, but if you search this thread you will see room pics.

Right now I'm staying basically across the road at the Movenpick which is much cheaper but just as comfortable and rooms are brighter.

Review to come.

Property: Movenpick Auckland

Room upgraded/type: Sort of. Superior, 1 Queen Bed, Harbour Side, high floor.
Rate: NZ 30% off promo, $590 for 3 nights.
Free internet: Yes
Free Breakfast:  No
Early check in/late out: Not required.
Welcome drink: Yes - via app voucher (see menu below)
Welcome gift: 1 fancy cake and 2 x still water.

Great location in Britomart, easy walking distance to restaurants, ferry and casino precinct. Daily Bread bakery next door does great baguettes and there is a 4Sqaure supermarket next to that should you need more water etc.

Comfy high bed, nice pillows, desk, walk in shower and decent counter space in bathroom, good hanging space in wardrobe and coffee pod machine (although why you'd use it when there is good coffee everywhere in NZ). Plenty of natural light and great block out curtains, no annoying light sources to cover up and good sound proofing.

Bar/restaurant is on top floor. Used my free drink on a rośe but could have had spirits or beer or other wines.

The chocolate hour spread had fondu, chocolates, pastries and cakes including a good number of gluten free option (something my sister who is currently staying at Movenpick Hobart says is missing there).

Due to a lousy turn in the weather, I ate at the inhouse restaurant Boda last night which is Asian fusion. Beef cheeks were melt in the mouth, and the bacon poppers and kimchi fries tasty. Accor+ dining discount happily accepted, although wasn't able to use it on a coffee this morning.

An inconsiderate guest decided to try and smoke in their room yesterday morning (it's a non smoking hotel), set off the smoke alarm resulting in everyone needing to evacuate. Walking down 11 stories of stairs wasn't the exercise I had planned, but two fire trucks arrived quickly, cleared everyone to return.

I would happily stay again when the price is right, it's same neighbourhood as the SO/ but cheaper with better views and more natural light.
