Property: Movenpick Hobart

Room booked: interior double queen room; away from elevators in the app booking form and also on check-in ( See below)
Room upgraded/type: No
Rate: $305 approx, members‘s flexible rate booked about two weeks prior
Free internet: Yes
Free Breakfast: not offered, didn’t ask, didn’t need it
Early check in/late out: yes checked in about 2 pm.
Welcome drink: Yes x 1
Welcome gift: Nice plate of confectionary
Recommended: formally yes; now no not really.

I requested a room away from the elevators in the comments section of the app booking and emphasised again on check-in. Check in agent confirmed the room was away for the elevator but this is what I got.:

FFS. Pretty peeved about that so straight back down to Reception, waiting in the queue. How could they “confirm“ that it was away from the elevator?

When I checked in, they said 'sorry no upgrade available' but 10 minutes later one had miraculously opened up on a high floor. Much much smaller with view over Harbour but unfortunately a noisy exhaust fan outside the window

IMG_9894.jpeg

There is obviously no mapping whatsoever of where the rooms are located within the hotel and that's simply cough.

Back down to the Reception with my bags and by this time I was fed up and accepted original room as there was a big bathroom between the beds and the elevators.

Quite a large room and as advertised it was internal and faced a solid wall to the adjacent building. I was absolutely fine with that as no incoming noise. As there is no overhead room light, it did make the room very gloomy. Could not connect Wi-Fi and my phone had only marginal mobile coverage. Hard pillows both queen beds.

Quite dissatisfied with this stay and after my previous marginal one, I won’t stay here again for my stays in Hobart. Crowne Plaza for me for further stays in town ( no status).

Quite a restricted bar and only the restaurant on site and no other facilities. They won’t take you for a reservation even if there’s a table vacant as they want to space out the orders from the small kitchen.

I will be submitting feedback.

Hotel: Swissôtel The Stamford Singapore
Status: Accor Plus Platinum
Dates: 24-30 January 2025
Room Booked: Stamford Crest Suite
Room Received: Stamford Crest Suite
Rate: SGD$830++ x 6 nights
Breakfast:  Yes - L65 lounge or Clove buffet restaurant
Early check in/late out: Arrived after 3PM... late checkout to 5PM offered and taken
Welcome drink: Yes, added to ALL app - though didn't redeem
Welcome gift: Yes - bottle of Italian red + tropical fruit platter (whole fruits)

Another very pleasant stay at the Swissotel, which has firmed up as the go-to for us now, in Singapore. Arrived by taxi and flagged ALL status and Crest Suites guest to the first person who approached, and were quickly whisked away past the self-check in mayhem in the lobby to get checked in at the excellent L65 lounge. Suite type as booked was received, though realistically there is no upgrade from this category - just the singular 210sqm Presidential Suite above these. They did comp the cost of the rollaway bed we needed, which saved us about A$650. We didn't have a need for earlier check-in, as we only landed off QF81 at ~4PM anyway... but on asking about the possibility of a later check out so we could have a full day before leaving for our evening flight home, we were offered up to 5PM without charge, which we very graciously accepted!

On reaching the room, we found that we were allocated a suite on the less desirable western facing side of the hotel, with no real views to the bay, as we'd hoped, and so I had a friendly chat with the lounge manager and they managed to find us what I think is now my favourite room location, just above the stairs to the lounge on the top accommodation level 66, with views across the bay from the living and suite bedroom, with a bathroom that faces the city to the east. It's above the L65 guest gym, for those that know where that is.

These are quite substantial multi-room suites at about 90 sqm, with a separate living area, washroom, multiple balconies & great views. Expensive - yes - but if you'll be there for a while, and will spend some time in the room as well as out and about (as we often do with our young lad), then the space and inclusions are great. You have the L65 lounge (status, or none - if you're in this room type), and they also come with an inclusive mini bar, covering all drink types and snacks contained (wine, beer, soft drinks, etc.), which they refill daily.

Welcome amenity was a nice touch, though we did leave the wine for someone else to enjoy. I spent my nights once the family was asleep out on the prowl for craft beer joints; something Singapore has plenty of, even within walking distance. Breakfast at the L65 lounge was quite good, though options slightly less varied than at the Clove buffet restaurant on L2. We chose to eat in the lounge most mornings though, as it was the Lunar New Year during our visit, and the hotel and restaurant were both very busy. If you needed it, there's also a lounge within the L65 lounge which is exclusive to Crest Suites guests, but seating is only in pairs, and you need to swipe in and out to use it, which is a bit of a pain with breakfast etc. I didn't visit the lounge during the coughtail hours, as I was saving myself for the good stuff, later, but my wife said it was OK, though noted no real champagne available.

Just back on the Lunar New Year and visiting SG at this time... A warning for new players is that it can be problematic with options over this period for dining out, shopping, activities etc. I've been to SG now about 70 times, but incredibly never during a Lunar New Year period, and it felt very odd having the majority of restaurants, bars & stores (even many larger western ones) closed up for a couple of days and nights. The major hotel bars and restaurants were mostly open, but still fairly limiting when you are used to the glut of choices that the Lion City would usually have on offer!

Will definitely return, but watching out for events and festivals the next time!

Here's a couple of shots of the view from the room on L66 - during the day, and at night (complete with the red accents for CNY on MBS!)

Room booked: Superior Room
Room upgraded/type: Pullman superior(?) Room
Rate: $179
Free internet: Yes
Free Breakfast: Yes - 🤣😂😅 (more on this)
Early check in/late out: Requested 2pm at check-in, no issues. However left early.
Welcome drink: Yes, didn't use
Welcome gift: No.

Oh dear. Arrived at the hotel which was chaotic (limited space for cars/ubers/cabs etc) and all the reception staff seemed to be trainee's (or run out of name badges) got upgraded to the Pullman wing of the hotel and got late check-out, no worries. Room is very old and basic, no welcome gifts.

Breakfast is located in one of the ballrooms, intially the staff member at the breakfast reception said that Diamond membership doesn't cover breakfast, even with politely pushing it and showing her the app etc etc. Spoke to the duty manager downstairs, whom was great and she confirmed it did and said to charge the room and they'd remove it immediately. Back upstairs and wished I didn't waste my time/energy... best summarised as a "Natural disaster relief center vibe" bunch of large circular tables and some food alongside one room which look horrible and old - the only thing fresh was an omelette station which had 10+ people waiting - that vibe! Had one walk around, noticed nowhere to sit and left.

Staff member on check-out seemed to on the ball and waived the valet parking fee as compensation for the breakfast issue and the 45min delay on getting the car sent up.

One to miss.

Relieved that Mrs AustGap avoided the Pullman/Mercure and was happy with the offering. Decent club floor offering and breakfast. Rooms fine, certainly starting to age but not much else choice in Brisbane with Accor.

Probably my fav Novotel in AU, shame that it's usually a quick overnight while visiting Tas for work. Good rooms (although not the suite as per the reception's verbiage of the upgraded room), great elite gifts - relieved for some nice tasting sparkling vs the usual house rubbish and good onsite (Vietnamese) restaurant.

Has improved with the recent renovations and was relieved to get a room not facing the road. Totally fine for a regional Mercure, did appreciate the breakfast option for elite members could be one of the takeaway options vs just the buffet.

Welcome gift: Sparkling wine and Chocolate plate

Nothing to really note for my monthly visit - did laugh that my welcome card had noted how many stays I've done at the hotel (19). Otherwise totally fine, would wish I could get the profile to show wanting carparking each time, the calls confirming do get a little tedious.

Nothing to add from the earlier post about this hotel, it's old and is very average. Is another Novotel on my list to avoid breakfast onsite and go to the cafe across the road.
