How does Europcar treat you as an Elite?

I had booked a compact car for Hobart this weekend using my free weekend offer from my tier upgrade via Velocity gold. On arrival to the pick up i was given a very awesome V40 Volvo. Wow love that car and was very impressed with the whole effort.

Unusual for an upgrade on the free weekend. My experiences have been the base model only.....pay for an upgrade if you want one! Good to hear your experience differed.

Same here. Impossible to get the upgrade on free weekend. I also used that weekend in Hobart :-)

Glad I stumbled on this thread. Seems I've been lucky renting twice as an Executive within the past year and got upgrades without asking. I've been upgraded from Executive to Elite but haven't rented as an Elite yet. Have my first rental at BNE Int in September and booked a Mitsubishi ASX so will be interesting to see what they offer in terms of upgrade...

As an Executive:

WLG - Booked a SV6 and got an upgrade to an SS without asking
SYD - Booked an i20 and received a Jetta without asking (seems like way more than a 1-class upgrade)

Europcar CNS strikes again.

Rented a car at the airport at about 9am (raining and had unexpected business) so paid the price (double what I'd normally pay) and no upgrade. Guy asked when I'd be returning and I said 5.30am the next day which he listed on the agreement. It was returned at 5am instead but I rang the dom desk from int (which is never manned) to advise I had dropped it off. The lady thanked me for notifying her and said she would arrange for the attendants to collect it.

Bill arrived and I have been charged 2 days with a return time of 11.39am. This is now the third time Europcar CNS have attempted to steal money from me and I'm getting pretty sick of it. (BTW, I'm Europcar VIP Elite status...hate to see how they treat non-status)

As an Elite at BNE International:

Rented an IFAR (Mitsubishi ASX). Got to the counter and the agent said it wasn't ready yet but it wouldn't be long. Offered me a Mitsubishi Outlander which was ready for $15/day. I asked if I could have it for my Elite upgrade. He said no upgrades over and above a Camry (FCAR). I didn't push it.

Presumably pre-booked. I would have stated I needed my booked car now and they can give me the Outlander. Trouble is, they'll usually just say no and you've got no fallback except walking away (I've done that too and it doesn't help persaude them, they just let you walk).

I hate the way Europcar claim to offer speedy pick up when that is a lie. There is often no privelege line that actually works as it should and frequently they haven't even allocated a car or done the paperwork. Recently I was in line at CNS behind two others. The two staff were taking forever with walk-ups and a third was just milling around trying to look busy. Then a guy walks up and pushes his way to front of the queue and when challenged he flashed his Privelege Elite card and stated confidently that he had priority. The two guys in front of me then showed their cards (both privelege elite) and I held up my VIP card, of which the counter staff unbelievably served the guy first!!! If they bothered with a Privelege line, that would not occur.

What do you mean by SS? commodore SS? If you did, that's very interesting!

I waited 35 minutes yesterday at BNE Domestic. What a joke - 5 people were picking cars up without prebooking so it was a mad house.

First rental with Europcar in 6 months and really put me off them. I've never had a 'great' experience with them.

Also is it normal for them to charge me before I picked the car up? My Amex was charged $170 the day before I was due to pick up even though I did a 'pay on pickup' booking?

Yep Commodore SS upgraded from the SV6. Spent a lot more on fuel than I needed to...

The agent was friendly enough but I got the impression he wasn't going to budge at all on an Elite upgrade. I was 10min before stated pick-up time and I think I technically was delivered the car by my stated pick-up time. Although all the paperwork was done apart from the car allocation so it was very quick.

Seems so. I noticed a pre-authorisation the day before I picked up mine as well.

20min after returning a car to BNE International I've got an email stating there is new damage to the car. I took photos of all the existing damage when I picked up the car. I'm assuming this will be enough to prove I didn't cause it considering the photos are time stamped?

Free weekend at CNS airport
Upgraded from Hyundai Accent manual to Toyota Corolla automatic
Offers of further paid upgrades
Service was good

Any update on this one NZ_Flyer?

Anyone used Eurocar Elite VIP in Europe?
Does a double upgrade always occur?
Is the Max Excess fee $2653.35?

Any other benefits from login with ID number on booking?
