How does Marriott treat you as an elite?

Finishing up 11 nights in Bali and thought this would be quite relevant to many here:

Keep in mind we started before AUS school holidays and ended first week of.

Not upgraded due to capacity, but I don’t even care. This place is 10/10, and it’s all the soft product. Staff is genuinely top tier all around. We were upgraded in app a week before arrival but was taken away. On check in check in agent apologised for no upgrades and offered a free meal in the restaurant, as well as extended coughtail hours. Pool bar has an amazing view and awesome bartenders and happy hour. A bit far from central Ubud though so I’d plan your trip carefully if you decide to stay here, we did day trips in the morning and come back mid afternoon to recharge. Eka at reception and Pande and Pundawan at the bar are masters of their crafts. Highlight of our trip for sure, which is especially impressive considering…

Awesome upgrade, easily the best upgrade I’ve ever received. Staff is overall pretty good but not as good as before, but still locked in. Step up in F&B price to around Aussie price but still acceptable considering the service and location/facilities. For the first half of this stay I was just thinking about the Westin, which speaks more about the Westin than the W if anything. More kids than expected (5:1 ratio at one point. Would return. 87% capacity on check in and 95% capacity on checkout

Yeah, this place is a massive, undeniable L. I’d highly reconsider to the StR or Laguna if you’ve booked here. No upgrades at all, but ok, whatever. However, we were informed that there are 3 weddings in our first day alone! One of which is a massive Aussie one which has took over the entire centre of the resort. She also mentioned they normally get 3 weddings a week otherwise, which just flags me as a giant wedding mill (a la JW Marriott Khao Lak, unfortunately). She mentioned that she will “monitor for upgrades tomorrow after the wedding party has checked out”, but will update if anything happens.

Anyways, our room ended up being right next to the elevator with the corresponding thump every 15-30 seconds (6 floors, we’re top floor next to the motor presumably), as well as directly in front of the wedding party. I’ve basically got their speakers in my room basically.

Not to mention, unbranded toiletries, robes, slippers, etc. No club lounge. Bordering unreasonable food prices considering where we are. (Like, compared to a 2022 menu some mains items are 50-80% higher).

No welcome notes, gifts, amenities. Just a plate on the table with some cutleries and napkins for presumably a cake that never came.

Service is good enough, but it just all falls flat unfortunately. At least the JW has built a massive ball room for weddings but the Ritz is just blasting everything in open air 50m from our balcony with no warning being sent out prior.

Just don’t do it.

I concur. I stayed at the Ritz Carlton Bali back in 2019 and it just felt cheap. Won't be going back there.
I have stayed at both W Seminyak and St Regis also. St Regis is my preference but that's because I'm too old for the DJs and late night parties at the Woobar!

Received: Standard Guest Room on high floor and lounge access
Rate: Stay for More (included $75/night hotel credit)
Late checkout: Offered 4pm but we didn’t need it

As a Gold I wasn’t expecting much, but we got early check-in and late check-out. We only needed the room until 12pm the day we left. And as the clerk said they couldn’t upgrade the standard of room, we were instead moved up to the 27th floor and given executive lounge access for our 2-night stay. So a pretty good outcome.

I hadn’t stayed there before, and had read a lot of reviews saying the lifts were diabolical. We never waited more than a minute, so we must have been lucky, as the hotel seemed busy enough.

Booked: Standard guest room
Received: Wow 1 bedroom suite Darling Harbour view, confirmed using SNA
Rate: 1 night FHR and 3 nights using points
Late checkout: Offered 4pm but we didn’t need it

To celebrate P2's birthday we decided to visit Sydney and stay at the W. First night was booked with FHR and next 3 using points. I applied SNA for both stays but only the FHR was confirmed and the next 3 were returned.

The hotel graciously allowed us to stay in the stay room for the 4 nights.

This suite was massive, almost as big as the Presidential suite in Sheraton Port Douglas.

I had asked for a vegan cake and some champagne delivered at 11 50 PM for her birthday and it was delivered promptly.

Breakfast spread was great and had many options. We ordered room service for one night but the food was just average.

Check in was delayed so they offered us 2 drink vouchers , an additional 2 were given as I am elite.

We saw the fireworks on Saturday from our room and it was nice.

Its a great hotel and they treat elites very well.

Strange layout of the lobby and reception.
The hotel looks a little bit of old. No renovations
It’s a little bigger than the hotel room standard.
Shower head looks dirty… it looks like it has not been cleaned for age!
It has got lots of cables on the desk!
Free bottle of water but no free snacks.
It has a coffee machine and has two free coffee pods and some free tea bags.
It has breakfast but we didn’t pay for breakfast.
It’s a little bit closer to the old Quebec town… about 8 minutes walk.

Am still feeling my way around Marriott. Will be platinum soon.
Do you get the executive lounge benefit on an award stay, especially for cash plus points awards. TIA

Well, the circus is about to start again! I found another thing "lost" from the hotel room, which tends to be familiar with Marriott's: my double-walled glass cup, my travel jug, and now my 512G memory card, which I found "missing" this morning. I pulled my room here in the London Maida Vale apart before heading down to reception, to be told, "I must have misplaced it"! Are you kidding!!!! I have a practice of going through my bird photos and editing the best ones, so this disc is on the work table. Waiting for the morning to open to see the reaction, but I expect the same thing from them, the sorry letter. Even my Lifetime Ti status holds little water.

I'm peed because I only got halfway through editing and most likely lost all my photo's from my Rainham Marsh RSPB visit. At least I got this one saved.

We really liked this hotel and it was a shame we were only there for one night. Sarah at reception was super helpful and allowed us to use the room as soon as we arrived at 12.30. And we got a 2pm checkout, which didn't help me as I had an early start - but my wife was very pleased about it.

Looks like a property with the nice view. Did you try the steakhouse on the top floor?

Was the reservation booked directly with them or 3rd party? I have the Gold Elite.

Apologies if posted elsewhere but has anyone had success with bidding on experiences such as Aus Open/Grand Prix.
How realistic are minimum opening bids in getting to the final winning bid?
I am Marriott Gold Elite
Thanks!
