How much are you paying for HERTZ one day rental in SYD?

I've never had any luck get Europcar Australia to credit any miles, to AA or BMI. No problems with Europcar in Germany though. Not sure about Europcar NZ, since they only changed to the international system, this year.

Well, you're right. I'm still waiting for credit of my first Europcar rental back in early November. I've contacted Europcar here in Australia and they seem to be the slowest company I've dealt with. It's been taking them weeks and I still have no response.

I found BMI and Hertz to work really well when it came to crediting miles. I just don't know any other FF program with such generous miles for car rentals. Hopefully, they will get their act together here in Australia, too.

I'm very fortunate that my Hertz CDP gets me $40/day full-size rentals + airport surcharge (about $55/day total full-size at Sydney)...

But interestingly, I've noticed that Hertz has seemed to (unintentionally, I'm sure) decrease rewards proportionate to my status...

I started renting with Hertz without #1 membership, and used to get upgrades from Full-size every second rental or so... I then joined #1 and got fewer upgrades, plus I stopped earning FF miles (despite all my attempts to request them...)

I've now been 5-star #1 for the past 2 years, and have received an upgrade probably twice in very close to 60 rentals. Quite bizarre.

Can't complain too much, however, as I'm generally happy with the service and the rates are great.

I pay $45 for a Fairlane or Statesman per day. No Hertz points or FF miles ( but hey, good rate and a v low excess ) .. rental counts towards the 30 needed for PC status though

Dave

Dave - wish I had that CDP!

My current CDP has no miles either, but again has rentals counting towards status...

If only Hertz stocked more premium or luxury cars so they'd give me upgrades on availability like they're supposed to!

If you have done 60 rentals in 2 years then you should have President's Circle membership and so get a guaranteed upgrade ( max upgrade in Oz being D to F )

Have u done 30 rentals this year?

Dave

I'm up to 26 this year - and fell short by a similar number last year...

I don't think I could justify the time/effort in making 4 more rentals in the next 6 days in order to status up, but I guess I should pay more attention to it next year.

The frustrating part is that many of my rentals were for several days - sometimes more than a week, and always in a full-size or premium car, and yet the status earn is the same as an economy 1 day rental.

You can also earn either 5 Star or Presidents Circle membership with the $$ that you spend.

I usually make 5* or PC with less than 8 rentals but they are long rentals in the USA with a prestige vehicle.

5 Star is around $4000 spend from memory, although the limit is not really defined
PC - Is $7000 spend from memory

I am currently 5*, use a very cheap corporate CDP in Australia, book a Corolla and usually end up with a Commodore or in a few cases a Statesman

Might be worth doing a few rentals where, if possible, you return the car and pick it up again a cpl of times during the rental. That could boost your rental count nicely. Only need to do it a few times and you will be able to make up the small shortfall. If you are picking up from airports, this can also save you money. Pick up from airport on day 1; return and pick up from a non-airport location and not only is it 2 rentals but you only pay the airport surcharge for 1 day

The criteria is the same as it always has been, I qualified this year for 5* with 6 rentals in the USA in 2008...

The $ value for qualification has never been mentioned specifically.

I cannot speak for the US but can as an Australian PC member for 4 years, the criteria has changed, its 40 rentals a year not 30 like it was previously and there is no $$$$ criteria in Australia for new members, renewals are a different story. You used to get 2 class upgrade gauranteed and your car was meant to be closest to the rental station, that is now all gone as the benefits have been watered down.

Ah okay, I wasn't sure what you were saying before :)

Thanks

I have only had 5 rentals this year two long rentals here in Aus and then 3 in the USA.

Not sure if I'll stay as a 5* but we'll see....

PC in Australia since it started has only ever been a guaranteed one class upgrade ; any upgrades given beyond that are purely ex-gratia;

If registered in Australia the criteria is still 30 rentals and can be confirmed by logging into the Hertz site , going to "# 1 club -> overview/join" where it still clearly states

Any attainment by spend has never been published on the site. It looks like that if clicking though to the "learn more" option , it links to the US / CA information

Hi Dave

if you login, then click on #1 club, it does say 30 but if you click on learn more, it then says 40, maybe its a case of the pages linking back to the US, which if that was the case would then show the $$ crieteria the US also has, that is the already mentioned $7000 of revenue!

As far as the class upgrades are concerned, it was two class in the terms and conditions I received in 2007, I will scan a copy and post it for confirmation, sadly its definatley 1 now, mind you there are a few locations that just ask me what car I really wnat, which is nice!

Yes it's always been 1 class upgrades, but more often than not I end up with two upgrades in Australia. I usually rent prestige vehicles in the USA so they are always what I have reserved. Other times when I rent it's usually a large 4WD and I get what I reserve but usually free Sirius radio

I registered in Australia but have been either 5* or PC, with always less than 30/40 rentals.

The spend amount has never been mentioned on the Hertz site but Hertz employees have confirmed it on various Forums that spend it also a criteria.

The $7000 revenue option is not published ; only offered to those that phone Hertz Customer Relations and request for it

If using the US information, going to the overview it states the benefits as

Earned with 40 rentals annually

•Guaranteed vehicle availability
•Guaranteed one-car-class upgrades
•25% bonus on #1 Awards Points
•600 Awards Points after every 15 (qualifying) rentals
•Special savings with limited blackout dates
•Includes all Gold benefits

No mention of a spending attainment level. Looking at the learn more pages , it looks like it is going to the wrong page and that should go to same page the NZ info goes to

I have had PC since prior to its inception in Australia and it has always been a guaranteed 1 class upgrade ( to a max upgraded class of F in AU) unlike 5* which was 1 class subject to availability

Dave

Not on the overview page that linked to directly from hertz site that I tried; nor did the "learn more" option mention it for US

How did you get to that page?

Dave

Logged in using my US based number I had when I worked for Intel. I think the only conclusion we can make here with such inconsistancy is that hertz are not good at frequent rental programs, have you every tried redeeming #1 awards ?
