Logged in using my US based number I had when I worked for Intel. I think the only conclusion we can make here with such inconsistancy is that hertz are not good at frequent rental programs, have you every tried redeeming #1 awards ?

Nope. My rentals are eligable neither for #1 rewards , nor FF miles

Dave

I don't get any QF miles etc either with my CDP (excess $700).

Rates before taxes etc for my CDP is $35.50 for Group B and $62.20 for Group P.

Completed a booking on friday for 1 weekend day in Sydney.

Cheapest I could get on a C class Corolla sedan was Hertz with 49aud inclusive. Got this through the Singapore Hertz site.

However on pickup they reverted to the Australian standard rate of 65aud and only had a B class hatch back available.

Very unimpressed, gonna take my print out in on drop off and raise hell!

#1 seems to get you nothing.I have given up and gone to Thrifty-Corolla is a touch under $54 for today.

Agree. I've moved to Avis - EU 110 for 4 day vs EU220 with Hertz "#1" even after calling and asking them to match (or near match) EU220 was the best they could offer. Hopeless.

#1 refers to the quick pick up benefits etc, nothing to do with rates that are based on the CDP you are using, as noted there has been a big rise in the public rates recently by Hertz, which affect things like the Qf CDP etc.

And unless you were physically in Singapore on Friday, they'll just point you back to their T&C's, which state you must be in the country (Singapore) when you were making the booking transaction.

AMA CDP FWIW.....

It used to be heaps cheaper.

Now, it's useless, the QF one is usually better (just).

I have a 2 day rental and the cheapest Hertz can do for a corolla (man) is $122.

Edit: Just double checked - the QFF and AMA (federal) and AMA (qld) rates are all identical....

Edit 2: in sydney btw....

Edit 3: FOund a coupon for $10 off so now $111 ( i think).

Found an old CDP attached to my #1 account....$48 per day for C Class with $770 excess :) booking went though no hassles and no issues on pickup.

Anyone hear of Hertz cracking down on whether or not you're eligible to be using a CDP?

Get ready to be herzt,
Hertz USA may be in process of buying out Thrifty.
Deskjock at thrifty said Hertz has most of the market, and the crumbs are shared.
Although there is stubborn resistance, so I doubt Hertz will have it all their own way, and ACCC may have something to say.

Yes, I hired thrify again - Hertz too sneaky - the prices seem to fluctuate.
Europcar if you have an ACTU membership card, has good deals too.

If, by ACCC, you mean the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission and are thereby inferring that the Australian Operations of Hertz and Thrifty will have any bearing on Hertz USA buying Thrifty, I think you are mistaken.

For a start, Thrifty Australia is a franchise owned entirely by the NRMA, who purchased Thrifty Australia a few years ago. Assuming the franchise arrangement still has time to run, Thrifty Australia will still be reasonably separate.

Hertz Australia is a wholly owned subsidiary of Hertz USA (except for the few franchised locations).

In any event, the Australian operations of Hertz and Thrifty are only a small part of the global operations and I doubt the US equivalent of the ACCC would take Australia into consideration!

In my observation, Hertz do not have most of the car rental market in Australia - yes, they likely have the most market share (30% would be my guess), but I would think Avis/Budget aren't far behind (25% would be my guess), with Thrifty (say 15%) and Europcar (also say 15%) by no means small.

All in all, I think this will have very little effect on the car rental market in Australia. The US is a whole different story ....

I have nothing concrete to back any of this up - just my 2 cents worth based on observation!
