How QF might make us fly EK by improvements not enhancements

Nothing they could do would make me want to fly EK. The whole deal is a shambles, with the incompatible products, lack of SC earning and the seemingly free reign that EK has to add flights wherever it wants. I cannot see what QF has gained from this deal. Another idiotic decision taken by the management.

you should, EK almost always uprade QF elites :)

* Many QF customers have got one stop flights to continental Europe, instead of two stops with QF. Big advantage for those people.

Yes I like the idea. But the reality from ADL is that I would pay <$2K to be squashed in Y with not even the faint hope of a points upgrade, or >$9K to fly in J or, weirdly, only a bit more than that to fly in F. (Go figure).

So far I have chosen other carriers with mid-range price and service instead of EK's extremes, despite the convenience factor of EK.

I cannot see EK installing Y+ if they haven't already. They dont exactly make decisions overnight.

no need for points, EK upgrade QF elites on a regular basis :p

Let's hope they don't introduce Y+ - because then we'll be upgraded from Y to either Y+ or J instead of J or F.

You hit the nail on the head with the whole idiotic management, but you are way off with the EK tie up, it really has added a lot of flexibility and saved my countless BIS hours. one stop to just about every European destination and the ability to avoid LHR both saves money and a heck of a lot of time. (the service on EK aint half bad either ;) )

What do QF gain from it? A happy customer and someone who gladly books QF codeshares on EK metal. you should try it sometimes, it even comes with SC ;)

PE on EK won't happen I don't think. I am sure there is an interview somewhere on YouTube where Sir Tim Clark explains why it won't. According to him he's "old school" and therefore doesn't believe in one world type alliances either. Don't think he makes too many bad decisions considering what EK has become under his leadership. Carrying a million passengers a week!

There are several EK routes that I would like to fly and earn QF SCs as well as points for. For example, routes into Africa would be very useful. Now I understand there are other external factors (regulatory requirements, etc) impacting on the possibility for codeshares and such. But then that comes back to earning SCs on EK coded flights, I suppose.

and no one can understand why.
If CX can put PE on its A330s and make money from it, why won't QF even consider it?

CX use A330's as an integral part of their long haul strategy. It seems people are willing to pay decent amounts of money to fly long haul in Y+, eg from Australia to Europe. For the medium haul flights (such as 7 hrs to SIN/CGK/MNL where QF use quite a few of their A330's) I am not so sure that demand is enough (without the higher paying long haul traffic), for these shorter sectors.

I would agree with that, PE has been very weak ex SIN despite it being heavily discounted.

Agree wholeheartedly with You! Tim Clark had done a sterling job at EK over the last few year's..... In particular great route expansion & a real growth plan for the airline into the future. I sure bet they would love to fly AUS > USA if ever they had a chance

I do a lot of HKG-SYD PE flying on QF and loads are normally pretty good.

It doesn't help that ex SIN the only consistent PE availability has been via BNE with SYD-SIN PE availability constantly chopping and changing. There needs to be greater product consistency.

If you can fly the EK 380 trans-tasman in F .... that poops all over what QF and everyone else offers on that route.

Many QF customers prefer to travel to Europe via SE Asia, often with a stopover. Big disadvantage for those people.

what about those that prefer to travel via the mid-east? They do exist, or those that want one stop service to anywhere in Europe? big advantage for those people.

you just can't please everyone

All suggestions made so far sound good to me, especially EK introducing Y+.

The main issue for me is, currently (at least), you can't earn SC's with QFF on flights with an EK flight number. I can't see how this would change as long as QF is a member of oneworld and EK isn't.

Isn't that the same with Delta and Virgin? Delta are part of Skyteam and Virgin are not in any alliance yet you can earn Virgin status credits flying Delta. If they can do it why can't QF & EK?

Appreciate the convenience of the one stop to Europe but my issue after traveling via Dubai twice in 12mths is that I feel bereft of much left to do on my next stopover - my third visit will be in 10 days or so. At least via SIN I felt filling in a few days was easily managed on every trip. My plan for DXB this time is to simply hang by the hotel pool as I think I've seen/ done pretty much all that's available for a short visit.
