How quick did you make Platinum?

This makes me feel bad - it took 48 weeks of my membership year to hit WP and I should requal in 2013, with about 5 days grace. :) I have sneakily split our holiday in Hong Kong/Macau across our membership year to get a head start on 2014. One of the rare occasions I could do something like that without Mr FM being aware of it......

My year starts in May and I'll re-qualify fastest this year when I travel SYD-MEL-LAX tomorrow at the start of a DONE4.

V Happy :)

The first time I reached 1,400 for WP it took ten months. I had to do it without the benefit of a double SC offer and wasn't committed for a while until I decided to heck with it and to just go for it.
The next year a double SC offer came knocking and I made it in 6 months. This year I've spread my travel out a bit and, thanks to another double SC offer, will take ten months again.

When I first attained WP back in 2005 it took 51 weeks and one day!

Went from bronze in April to Platinum One yesterday. By the time I return back to Australia next week that will be 4065 SC in 8 months.

Mainly flying business (and the occasional first) from Melbourne to LHR.

I have to say that I am still underwhelmed by the benefits for P1. You receive a mid tier bonus at 2400SC yet nothing really material when hitting 3600. Search most of the forum there seems to be a general consenus that P1 could have been executed a lot better.

For example, received an email from Qantas a few week ago advising I was getting close to P1 and went into the "exclusive benefits" (free wine membership !!!??), yet since hitting the required SC on the last flight 4 days ago - nothing. My status hasn't changed on my profile, no automatic email welcoming to P1.

This is what lets Qantas down. They spend a huge amount on publicity when these schemes are launched yet fail to live up to hype in execution. I really like the Qantas product (A380 service to London, apart from the IFE!!!) as is the shortest travel time, the first lounge is terrific and conveniently leaves late Sunday afternoon, getting me into London Monday morning.

I hope they consider refreshing the benefits on P1. Idea they I would like to see are;

- Any time lounge access regardless of carrier
- A couple of first lounge guest passes for family
- A tangible bonus when hitting P1 - such as 50000 point
- Addtional loyalty bonuses

I am sure the member of this forum can suggest a few more.

I think it's going to take me about 420 days to requal this year ..... sigh.

Am going to do it in 20 days this membership year. Thanks to double status credits and having the time to fly whilst looking for a job I can do it. When I get a job soon I doubt there will be any flying for awhile so I'll take it while I can.

My renewal date is in February, and I think I'm just going to scrape it in for Platinum. I think the DSC will mean I don't need to do a status run to get over the line, but it's going to be close. My problem is the unreliability of my clients, I can be called interstate on a day's notice. Or sometimes not go anywhere for a few weeks at a time.

I did not fly for the first 10 months of my current qualifying year as I was doing my HSC (completed on Nov 2), re-qualified for WP on Nov 20. Now I have till Jan 31 to re-qualify for NZ GE, currently at 1000 SP.
