How to impress a flight attendant

The FA's on QF 51 upstairs last night...

Hey I know one of those guys! I think it's fair to say that it really shows when someone enjoys what they do, especially on bad days.

I try to be polite and unobtrusive, and help out whenever I can (handing over trays etc). I don't expect anything in return as I reckon it's just good manners, but it's nice when crew respond. A crew member actually brought me chocolates (in whY) and gave me a mini tour of the plane on a QF SIN-MEL not too long ago. A nice gesture that won't be forgotten.

I also do this, I'll pull out my own tray table, make sure dishes don't have heaps of rubbish in them, so they can slide away easily in the cart. I'll hand across dishes/glasses so that the FA doesn't have to reach over too far etc etc

If you put yourself in their position - it can be a tough gig, I'm sure many folk still hold that antiquated opinion of FA's as glorified waitresses, simply there to "serve". Simple good manners and a pleasant acknowledgement of their work is just the nice thing to do. Engaging with FA's is not sucking up or expecting better service.....but in my experience, the more pleasant you are to them the nicer your journey! Many examples - a lovely bottle of French bubbles sneaked into our bag one wedding anniversary; and, oh bliss, back in the day - upgraded to F; there have been others. Even got a (free) upgrade from business to F from LHR-Dubai, courtesy of a very pleasant 10 minute chat with the Aussie checkin chick!! Treat 'em with a bit of respect, and don't look for a reward. Fantastic when you get one though! And on SQ F in May to CDG I'm gonna do the chocs a la bossreggie.

Surely this is the key when interacting with all people in life.

My parents constantly drummed into me - treat everyone the way you would want to be treated in their position. Its my belief and I'd like to think that I've done it all my life. I'm sure that some people that I have dealt with would say that I have failed in this regard so I'm sorry for that. Doesn't mean you can't disagree with people but you can state your case in a polite and diplomatic manner. No need to throw a tantrum at someone who probably didn't cause your problem anyway.

We had John on the way back again (on QF 52 ) make a special trip down to see us ( we went home in the front cabin downstairs) and welcome us on board.
That's pretty amazing and well appreciated I can tell you.
Really great feeling .
