hsbc-star-alliance-card-art.pngWhy we like the HSBC Star Alliance credit card

Launched in 2022, the HSBC Star Alliance credit card is the first of its kind anywhere in the world. You'll earn Star Alliance Points which are transferable to a choice of seven Star Alliance member airlines at a time of your choosing. You can also earn Star Alliance Silver or Gold status just by spending on the card, with no flying required!

Once you qualify for the welcome offer and are fast tracked to Star Alliance Gold status with any of the seven participating carriers, you’ll soon be enjoying perks like airport priority lanes and lounge access when flying across the whole Star Alliance network. It is the largest airline alliance in the world with 25 member airlines, including Air New Zealand, Singapore Airlines, United and Turkish Airlines.

Please note that the welcome offer is not available to existing HSBC customers transferring from another HSBC credit card, or if you have previously held a HSBC Star Alliance credit card within the last 18 months. Refer to the full T&C’s for more information:

Question… did some transactions on the new card… they have hit the account (no longer ‘pending’)… what happens now? I haven’t reached the $4000 spend yet, but when and how do the points hit my generic star alliance account? Is that automatic, and when does the transfer happen? Is it daily or weekly?
Points credited once statement is issued .

Had this card for nearly 2 months, met the spend in the fist 10 days. Has anyone got the 50,000 aeroplan points yet? Still waiting...
@appaz, I got an email this morning inviting me to apply for this card. In the email, it said to allow 6-8 weeks for the 50,000 bonus aeroplan points to credit to your account (if you pick aeroplan as your status airline).

I should be getting the bonus points shortly then, got the base points (from money spent) straight away

Apologies if this has already been mentioned - I searched but couldn't find anything.
For TG Royal Orchid Plus, does this include the *G upgrade and 50% off miles? Can't find any info on TG website.

It’s the regular star gold just like normally earned .

Got the “congrats you’re eligible for gold” email the same morning the $4000 spend posted.

You can change the Status Airline in your Star Alliance Rewards Account until 20 Dec 2023. Subsequently, we will request the status from the Status Airline that is reflected in your account at that time.

Seems to give you two weeks to make a decision on the program you want.

I wonder at what point one can change programs. Presumably not until day 366.
One can nominate a change of airline anytime and any number of times . It will only take effect in the new qualification year - if you qualify afresh .

Hi, can anyone please confirm if the supplementary card hold also attains gold status as well as primary card holder? Thanks

1.2 Additional cardholders are not eligible for membership in the HSBC Star Alliance Rewards program in their own right, but HSBC Star Alliance Rewards Points will accrue to your program account and then be automatically credited to your Star Alliance Rewards account, in accordance with these terms and conditions for eligible transactions effected by additional cardholders.
I guess this doesn't reference status, specifically, but suspect it implies the answer well enough. Additional cardholders rarely benefit to this extent, unless of course they are travelling with the primary cardholder.

Cheers,
Matt.

Has anyone already had confirmation that their aeroplan status will be cancelled in 2024 for cancelling their card ?

Bit confusing with the general T&Cs… status will expire on the first anniversary of opening your card, but delving into the Star Alliance T&Cs for the CC it suggests that at least with aeroplan, we might be able to get two years?

I know there was discussion about a year ago on this matter, what’s the score today?

If I want to maximise Aeroplan status… do I complete the $4k spend by say 18 December (to be safe), allow 14 days for it to kick in, then have status from 2Jan 24 and all of 25 as well?

Or do I complete the spend on 1 Jan, wait two weeks, then have it?

Wouldn't it be safer to compete the required spend at late Dec at possible, preferable January.

You'd have to pay the annual fee next year, right?

To be on the safe s’aide complete 1 Jan you think? I wasn’t sure about the 2-week ‘nomination’ period. And with ether that counts, or not, for your attainment of gold.

Yeah… $450 annual fee in the second year… but I did some maths… touch and go. Without international spend I might put $1500 a month on the card, so 18k star points or 14400 aeroplan points. Those aeroplan points are worth about 2c, so $290?

So I’m getting star alliance gold for $160 in the second year.

If that translates to priority phone service at Aeroplan, that could just be worth it!

Actually for the second year you need to pay the annual fee and in the first year spend $60 k on card for gold and $30 k for silver . Every will provide a spend tally .

That was the question… does aeroplan gold give you the remainder of the first year AND the second year? if so, no 60k spend required. (qualify on 2 jan = gold for 2024, and then 2025 as well?)
