Hyatt Regency Perth to close after 36 years

Oh gosh, is that sad to see those pictures of the former Hyatt with nothing at all done to at least pretend a renovation had happened.

Looks like they couldn’t even get Accor to slap a new name on it. Really sad.
Who knows if they even talked to another chain. My guess is they decided to go it alone and save on the 20% or so on management fees they'd have to pay to any of the chains

I’m staying here at the moment enjoying one last stay. The staff and service have been excellent.

I am still bewildered at the move by the owners. A hotel of this size with grand internal atrium proportions and full 5 star facilities (with cheap and easy parking) are rare these days. Yes it needs some love and has a bit of a 80s feel but it will be difficult to get that back.

The new non-hotel hotel appears to be relying on the adjoining shopping precinct for F&B which included a pretty impressive IGA but I fear the semi-service longer term model (ie once a week room servicing etc) could struggle as it has no affiliation but you never know maybe a fancy Quest or Oaks model may work in Perth?

Most of the staff I have spoken to are departing- many were quickly taken by the Ritz Carlton and the like. Apparently Hyatt trained staff are very desirable. Hopefully Hyatt can rebrand something in Perth soon.

And also save on the cost for the baaaadly needed renovations which is the crux here I think.

And to be honest- this hotel was rather amazing at its core. Last time I stayed there just a few weeks ago I thought “Imagine what you could do with this place! It could easily be a Grand Hyatt or better even if it got some much needed TLC.” Never going to happen now, such a shame.

I suspect that you are right - it needed some work to bring it up to scratch.
I guess Hyatt and Tuan Sing had different ideas on what was needed.

Drove past it today and the Hyatt name is still there. We were Club at the Hyatt members from 1994 until the club closed along with a group of friends.
No more big parties there for us but we have the great memories.
The parking was so easy.
Now we go to the Treasury Como as we bought a pile of discount dining and accommodation vouchers at their Boxing Day discount deal.

We are already in a few clubs with BankWest, WACA, Fremantle Dockers, Fever. West Coast Eagles for starters.
