I am bringing back the BA access through paid Qantas club membership debate.

Hi all,

Lots of information here, but I'm still none the wiser! I'm returning late Jan from Ireland, QF booking from go to woah through LHR and SIN. I am a paid QC member, traveling PE. I could have returned in J on an Asian carrier, but weighed the cost up against the fact that I could supplement PE with BA Lounge access for my 4 hour LHR stopover...a little bit of luxury, I guess. Am I going to get in, though? It's a European connection, on a QF booking, and I am paid QC. So many variables....aaaargghh!

Why wouldn't you have access in LHR coming home?
Or are you asking about Access on your way through to Ireland?

On the way back to Australia. I'm just envisioning an all-out ban on QF passengers, based on what I'm reading here! I have always had to practically fight to get in (as a QC, non-status traveller) as it was, even before they changed their rules.

I don't think there should be any issues.

I have had comments made previously, but been let in.

The rules are pretty simple actually. You will have access in Australia and in Singapore. In London so long as your flight to Ireland is not broken by a stop over in London you will get in. Coming home the same. Where you won't get in is in Dublin (assuming that's where your flying), though don't feel left out, even a OneWorld Emerald flying BA in economy doesn't get in in Dublin, just those in J and BA's elites owing to the lounge being 3rd party.

As for your decision to fly PE to get access to the BA lounge instead of flying J on another carrier, I gotta say you are mad! If you flew J on another carrier you would have got access to their lounge anyway. The LHR BA lounges are good, but are nothing special.

I was the OP of this thread. I would like to point out to the rather scarce Red Roo that the info about working with BA about changes to access to their access policy has been on the QF QC access page or a year now.
I hope that the project team made up of senior executives at both at QF & BA are working through to the conclusion of this very complicated matter and that they celebrate with a big party at the conclusion of this major issue.

I suspect that RedRoo wants nothing to do with this subject at all, given the history of having to retract the original "fix" that was announced. After all - poor RedRoo can only report on something if progress is actually made, given that this problem is not resolved after 12 months, and with the JSA coming to an end, a betting man would predict that this will never be solved.

I would say the issue has been resolved, in so far as access is pretty clear, however clearly that resolution isn't in favour of Qantas Club members but don't see what else can be done!

Hey guys Im not gonn a let this lie, I'm a lifetime QC member since 2005. The main reason I took lifetime membership was the unfettered access to BA lounges. In my opinion its a real breach of contract. Do any of you guys and gals have an image of the rear of your pre 2012 QC card stating this right of access (unfortunately I didnt notice when they issued new card that its now gone from the reverse)? On another note do any of you have a note of the QC T&Cs circa >2005, <2012?

Thanks for your help

Welcome, kensden.

I can certainly assist with a past Qantas Club card and may be able to help with the Qantas Club booklet. I'll post again later today when I'm back at home.

kensden...
Welcome.
I suspect if you read the T&Cs there is a T&Cs can be changed at any time clause, and clubs can be added and deleted (eg. Gold Coast being closed and reopened)

You purchased lifetime Qantas Club access, not Qantas Club and British Airways Terraces/ Galleries and American Airlines Aadmirals Club

I've said it a number of times but the "can change" clause does not rule out taking action of some sort and it should not be used as a fob off in this manner.

If people are going to continually fall back on the "can change" condition then it is incumbent on them to also mention that the conditions allow for a refund of remaining membership in the case that a change substantially reduces a members intended use of the membership.

Anyone wishing to take action, who intended to use the membership to access BA lounges should seriously consider their position in relation to claiming a refund of their remaining membership fee.

And they haven't added or removed a lounge. They've altered the partner access rules.

I chose not to respond to that comment. Corporate lawyerspeak doesnt equal the law! Rather than looking for ways to support Qantas' lack of loyalty to us we should be acting as one. Im amazed at how complacent we are, no wonder we get the Politicians we deserve :)

The problem is there are so many shouts of they can change the rules that the lone voice suggesting that people ask for a refund doesn't get heard. I believe there has been one member who did call and ask for a refund over this issue. I can't remember if they were successful.

The other problem, which effects me, is I'm in a very generous corporate scheme that is closed to new members. While I don't need QC membership now, I may need it in the future. So the BA lounge issue isn't enough for me to risk not having access in the future. Which probably tells everyone how significantly BA lounges feature in my travel plans.

Yes I have printed out the terms and will wait and see what happens with any changes at the end of the JSA. Wish I could get to Gold in time but won't happen till later. Flight isn't until 12 May and returning at end of June so will report on PE after that. I have written to Qantas about the BA situation and they have just said they are still negotiating and don't know what is happening yet.

Dale.

This topic just never gets old - note the response that QF gave to dalereardon in writing when he asked why he couldn't access the BA Lounge in LHR!

Is it possible for you to scan or attach the actual response you got from Qantas dalereardon ? If you still have it?

I may have mislead you - I asked them about the access situation on a future trip - I haven't tried to access the lounge yet.

I did write to customer relations and also tweeted Qantas and it was a tweet I got back.

Don't worry I will push the situation hard once there is an official decision and report back. The Qantas Club terms still allow access at the moment.

Dale.

From Qantas website, seems it's confirmed - no more T5 access for QP members transferring in LHR for European destination: After 31 March at least :-(

Also, no access if flying BA from LHR - SIN.

Until 30 March 2013, Qantas Club Members travelling between Australia and the UK via Singapore, Bangkok and Hong Kong on Qantas or British Airways services, or travelling on other British Airways flights connecting with these services, can access the British Airways Terrace, Executive and Galleries Lounges.
From 31 March 2013, Qantas Club Members will be welcomed at the Emirates Business Lounge in Dubai when their next onwards flight that day is with Qantas or Emirates.
When travelling from London, access for Qantas Club Members to the British Airways Terrace, Executive and Galleries Lounges will be replaced by American Airlines Admirals Lounge access at London Heathrow when their next onwards flight that day is with Qantas or Emirates between Australia, Dubai and London.

For anyone interested, I have my QC membership cancelled and the remaining (32 months) refunded as of 1 April due to the changes related to access when flying BA to Europe
