I flew Qantas

Explain where my experience was not the norm and would be changed by additional flights?
BNE-SYD 6:05pm flight last night. Seat back IFE, also music in armrest, lamb and mash potato with vegetables, coke zero and 2 alcoholic drinks.

Oh and a quite cabin unlike what I encounter on VA flights.

Yes, but whether I was expecting a meal versus snack was not the question. The question is whether cheese and crackers is the normal snack, or if I flew Q more my opinion would change due to better snacks?

Do all the 73's have streaming?

Do Q normally only board from the front?
Some 737's have seat back IFE the rest have Q streaming. Most times board only from the front.

Cheese and crackers is not the normal snack. There are varieties of snacks provided.

To set some context, what is your expectation of a snack on a 2hr flight?

It doesn't matter what my expectation is, is cheese and crackers the norm for Qantas? Let's be honest, it's pretty dam ordinary...

I suggest the OP gets on a domestic flight in the US or Europe on any legacy carrier and then reassess. We get it VERY good here on either carrier from check in right through to leaving the airport. (Although I do believe QF is a better experience overall)

How on earth does a flight in the US or Europe have any bearing or context on a comparisson between Q and V? Lol

It's like someone comparing Ford and Holden and being told they need to try a horse and cart in Mongolia.

If you are going to come out firing, you aren't going to get constructive discussion.

For the record it does matter what your expectation is as that is what your gripe is about.

Uh huh....please do tell me more about how I came out firing...? In my opening posts I said I was disappointed Q's snack was just as coughpy as Virgins, then a heap of Q fan boys attacked me or posted non sensical remarks. I continued to try to keep on track asking if my experiance was the norm.

Yep, firing with both barrels rolleyes.jpg

I know I have repeated myself a few times but once more won't hurt-for an airline that positions itself as premium my expectations were that there would be a difference to Virgin. But there wasn't-their snack was just as coughpy, their boarding was worse due to forward door only, there was no IFE. In other words a service that was actually worse to what Virgin normally provide (excluding meal services which I can't comment on)

Thanks John, interesting. Though the comment about noise is a bit of a joke-don't think I've ever been on a 'noisy' domestic flight? Flights to Bali ornThailand is another matter...

You are argumentative with anyone trying to seek some clarification - the question still stands what do you see as appropriate as a snack?

Lol it's funny how easily people get their knickers in a knot.

Explain where my experience was not the norm and would be changed by additional flights?

As I've clearly stated-I was expecting a point of differentiation, there wasn't one. I got cheese and crackers-asked if this was a normal snack, is it? The plane had coughpy drop down LCDs and no mention of streaming IFE (and saw no one else using it) again--is this normal? Boarding was excruciatingly slow due to forward door only-is this normal?

How about you explain how what I experienced was a exception to the norm instead of getting personal?

You can hardly expect one of anything to represent the norm.

I don't object to a complaint about one flight, but I don't thinkl it's reasonable to extend that experience to all flights of that airline.

And I had no intention of being personal - sorry if you took it that way. I was merely pointing out a fact. As the saying goes "one swallow does not make a summer".

Well I flew VA last week and am not going to fly them again.
So 1 all QF vs VA.

As you're going on about cheese and crackers, even in QF Y I have always been offered a choice of snacks on a jet, only single choices on the Dash8's but sometimes they can 'find something' if I ask what else is available.

Please go back to Virgin if you don't like QF, Virgin perhaps has the snacks you like therefore they are for you. For me the best choice is QF.

But that's not the question, the question is whether cheese and rice crackers is better than what Virgin offers. What I see as an appropriate snack is beside the point. You are trying to derail the thread by continually dismissing the point at hand.

I wasn't offered a choice, I guess they had run out of whatever the other coughpy snack was?

Why? What did. Virgin offer that was less than Qantas? I can offer examples why I was dissatisfied.

seems some people just take an unreasonable allegiance to a corporate money maker and make it personal-quite peculiar really...

Ok if that's the attitude you want to take, I will put it out there you were never going to enjoy the QF flight at all. What is so damn hard about answering the question I have asked multiple times. It is certainly relevant to the topic.

That's why I asked about 5 times if my experiance as the norm. It's quite simple really, I was expecting something different, something better, it was not. It seems the snack they offered is normal (and just as bad as Virgin), they only bord from the front which is very slow, and they are in the process of updating their IFE.

Thus I can't see any reason further flights with them would change my view. Unlike some here I'm not blindly loyal to a company that is simply after everyone's money.

I'm after the best and most reliable value for money transport option. Virgin still seem to be the better option. If people don't like my opinion that's fine, they can leave the Virgin section of the website and live happily ever after....or rebuts me with facts as to why I should give Q another go.

Is there anyone else here that choose an airline based on snacks?

If you like the Virgin snacks then fly them, it's that simple.

You are being obtuse. I rated the snack no better than Virgins, it's would be hard for cheese and crackers to be better than anything really.

What would be a better snack-who knows, maybe a trio of dips, a muffin, even a doughnut would be fun. Do I need to be a sports car designer to know what would make a better Ferrari? No, but when I see it I will know.

Zzzzz....and let's not forget the slow boarding and lack of IFE, beside landing in one piece what else is there really to compare a domestic flight on?

Thanks for the laughs though. It's amazing how personal people can take comments about 'their' choice of transport. It's nothing but a company that takes your money, why are you so passionate? You must have felt special when 'your' CEO left you stranded when all operations were canceled during the industrial dispute?

As you say it's a company, buy shares and be passionate about it. I work for a company I'm passionate about, perhaps you wouldn't understand.

don't think anyone's taken it personally.
It's simply been pointed out that over snack time, there isn't a great difference, over meal time there is. And that 40% of the 737s have seatback IFE the rest have QStreaming BYO.

Personally was disrupted four times by Union thuggery over the 4 wks before with threatened and then cancelled action which impacted flighta. Also a certain PM could have saved the grounding with the stroke of a pen but chose to send it to the courts.

At one point I held VA Plat and QF Plat, both earnt. I've let one slip.

Oh so u work for Qantas, now I understand entirely.

When people choose to attack me simply because they are pro Qantas it is personal.

There have only been a handful of comments that have actually addressed the topic of point of differentiation.

well I could take that as a personal attack, but I won't, and equally don't see anyone personally attacking you, just providing different opinions.

But no have never worked in the airline industry (couldn't get status that way)

or if you referred to BAM1748, also not someone who works in the airline industry, although as per his user name a slightly slower form of transport industry

bean,

Thanks for the wind up.

Your questions, including their variations have been answered several times so there is nothing else to discuss except I will add one personal point about boarding.
I will never board via the rear stairs if it involves walking across a noisy Tarmac. After 40+ years in the industry I have sufficient a/c noise related hearing loss without adding to it further. If this means a couple more minutes for the boarding process then tough!
