I hate Jetstar

I have flown JQ many times with no problems and will continue to use them if the price is right and they are flying at the times I need too. Being in DRW sometimes you don't get much of a choice other than to fly Jetstar.

I would probably never rely on JQ for an international flight but have no problems using them domestically.Have much better frequency out of MCY than DJ.

I've done something like 350+ sectors on J* (MCY-SYD-MCY) in that time I've never had a cancelled flight, had quite a few delays (very few over 1hr) & couldn't land at MCY twice due to weather, not J*.

Always had an exit row & enjoyed 20SC for every sector:D....have chatted to many celeb's/VIP's on J* as many have houses/units/holidays in Noosa & other parts of the Sunshine Coast.

The biggest PITA was using MCY.....whenever there was two planes on the ground the terminal couldn't cope. These days they've changed the setup therefore, the flow-through is a little better. Also, walking out on the tarmac & up the stairs in the pouring rain isn't the best way to start or end your working week:(

Likewise until now I've onlytaken JQ domestically and 3K for short hauls from SIN. But about to try the A330 for first time on medium haul SIN-MEL. Not day/time critical, and fingers crossed, it was similar price to QF 6 (747) via SYD (to be specific the meal/pts/seat selection bundled JQ fare was about $70 less than QF), but it's nice to get off the plane at 6:30am and head home, rather than facing another 4 hrs of travel, just to have AVOD and a continental breakfast.

Hmmm, the bash JQ thread.

I choose JQ if there isn't a QF flight at the right time. I am happy flying MEL-SIN for PE prices/service and J points.

Thing is, I know what to expect and I am satisfied with that.

My intention was never to 'bash', I'm simple recounting my experiences with JQ which have all been terrible. If pax are happy to fly with them, all good for them but I'll continue to avoid them like the plague.

I wasn't having a go at you for starting the thread, and I note the comment re "I tried to like them". I was commenting on the direction these threads take.

Now play nice guys...

No problem. Show me a thread that stays OT ? They all seem to meander off on pax personal gripes/experiences. Annoys me a bit but understandable.

At least you gave them a chance.

I know some people who would never give Jetstar the chance to stuff up their travel plans....
Don't quote the many other replies saying people have had no problems!!

Everyone has their own views about them, but at least be fair :) They aren't the worst!

If you follow AFF then you must know my track record? I have not cried yet and I am not ready to start either.

I am flying Thai Air Asia on 1 January 2013. Not sure it is a wise move but I have a friend from Australia with me and it was the logical choice considering we are going to Chiang Mai for a couple of days and the cost was ~AUD95 including luggage, golf clubs and seat selection as opposed to 9-10 hours in a bus.

I was going to fly Nok Air on the way back but the cost was over AUD100 and I am alone and not in hurry so now will get the red-eye VIP bus back to Bangkok for 1/3 of the cost and save on hotel accommodation for 1 night.

I will willingly fly Tiger before I fly Jetstar.

Well we all have to try things! In reality it is different, but not that much different.

You just have to expect less than you would of a mainline carrier.

I have never flown Air Asia but having flown Tiger and JQ (Will be flying 3K in March for the first time) I would pick Jetstar hands down every single time. The crew are much more professional IME.

Took JQ, Mel - Sin April last year, delayed just under 4 hours on departure and missed our connecting 3K flight (saw it take off as we walked into terminal). JQ staff apologetic very helpful, rebooked us for next day and set us up in the Grand Copthorne Singapore including Taxi money both ways and 100SGD for food. Lost a day of the holiday but it could have been a lot worse. eg. having to go through insurance.

...

I will willingly fly Tiger before I fly Jetstar.
On that basis I suspect that's more to do with the principal of the introduction of JQ keeping QF fares "high" rather than any service issues.

If I was going to fly Nok Air on the way back but the cost was over AUD100

I find Nok-Air not bad at all, having done I think a dozen flights on them. For some reason, their livery always brings a smile to my face (well a laugh at the very least). After all what other airline has made the nose of their planes into a bird's beak?

Flown Air Asia twice.First time they allocated Mrsdrron and I the same seat and the second they cancelled. So I prefer JQ.

Interestingly - I think it's safe to stereotype those that like (don't have a problem with) JQ and those who do.....it's pretty simple.

1/ Many of the JQ fanbois (alright that's a little OTT) are flying JQ Asia, and given that this is a simple low-cost way with decent routes I have no problem with it. I've even used JQ for the red-eye CNS-AKL as it's been the most convenient option for me (QF wasn't an option).
On these routes JQ is good value, and flies where people want to go.

2/ Those who choose to fly JQ domestically due to cost savings and/or schedule preferences.
I've even considered it on several domestic flights, especially for short bus-rides the cost saving when traveling HLO is tempting and on some routes the scheduling is more convenient.

3/ The rest of us whose problem with JQ isn't JQ - it's QF.

What I mean is that we don't have a choice - either JQ is being forced upon us by the removal of QF routes or we are being forced onto JQ as part of Int connections. Tied in with this is the F#$%karound that you receive when you have part of your QF itinerary shunted off to JQ.

So it comes down to choice..... Those who CHOOSE to fly JQ at a price and schedule that is convenient I would imagine have no issues with JQ, in fact I would be surprised if there were too many (as long as you don't check in late).

But those of us who don't have a choice are entitled to be unhappy with receiving sub-standard service and having it forced upon us.

EDIT: And yes - I'm having an anti-JQ week this week ;)

Fair point(s). I live in MEL so have plenty of choice. That is, I am not forced to fly JQ, I do so if it is convenient. This may be different if I lived somewhere that used to be QF and now only JQ service.

I actually don't mind JQ, there are certainly worse options out there.

Ultimately I'd choose a full service carrier over JQ, but who wouldn't? It's all about price point and horses for courses. You can't brand people as bogans/scum etc just because they can only afford to fly a LCC. Not every has the opportunity to fly full service or enjoy the benefits of status.
