That's not what JohnK posted, but I love your ability to misquote. You don't work for Rupert do you? ;)

Knowing your bank account balance is one piece of data. Knowing your withdrawal limit is another. Knowing where you can withdraw would be a third..

See where this is going?

I haven't seen where this is going for the last 10 pages!

Lol..

OK well let's put it this way. If you know that information is not reliable you should be seeking more and more bits of data that allow you to increase the confidence of the information.

So at an airport what to the indicators say? What does the BP say? What do the announcements say? What's happening at the gate you're meant to go too? If all goes well they all lead to same thing and you can have increased confidence that its correct.

When it comes to airline gates I would say the above would still leave some uncertainty until you actually get your BP scanned at the gate!

Certainly as regular travellers you should be aware that gates may change, flights may be be delayed..so you should know how and when to get more and more data. The scheduled boarding time is probably one of those times.

So at an airport what to the indicators say?

Shirley you can't be serious?..............the indicators don't talk to me. They're inanimate. Not even I scull that many freebie wines in the lounge to believe my boarding pass is going to start discussing life, the universe and everything with me, and even if it did, I already know the answer is 42!

PS...I said previously I'm glad I don't travel with you.........can I please change that statement to..........please let me travel with SeatBackForward and I'll have the same mushrooms

Sorry too late. Can't change your mind now! Not this time on a Friday night at least...

The example you just gave is a case where it wasn't 100% accurate at all. You had *some * of the information. But not enough information to know there was a withdrawal limit.

So it turns out you did need to rely on additional information to improve the accuracy.

You are really trying hard to justify your point. I would have given up by now.

Any information needs to be 100% correct at all times. Anything less is a failure and i do not understand why you are trying to justify incompetence.

Not justifying incompetence. To say it should be eradicated is both unrealistic and not a practical solution.

I'm just stating ways of dealing with it.

By day you're in charge of the boards aren't you ;) Closet board controller perhaps

Yes my actual name is Sir Toppem Gate.

Why do people think I'm supporting the display of incorrect information?

I'm in no way saying that its OK for them to be wrong. In fact I'm actually agreeing that you can't rely on them.

I hate to jump in on these types of discussion but after this comment particularly on this site I couldn't hold back. So if you take this attitude to an engineer working on an aircraft, and he is incompetent and his work creates a major safety issue, this should not be eradicated or is unrealistic and not a practical solution to correct . There are mistakes and there is incompetence, please do not mistake one for the other.

Oh come on! I'm really very impressionable on Friday nights, but this is the real bugger.........I've gone and lost my wallet (blackadder Part 2, Episode 4). Go on, please impress.

It just might work!

That's what safe fail and redundancy are for. Multiple points in a process that prevent mistakes and incompetence leading to failures.

How does a travelling passenger have a say in dealing with aircraft maintenance anyhow?

Safe fail?....or should that be fail safe? Freudian slip? Or perhaps you mean fail secure..........different requirements for different applications, but hardly interchangeable!

Ahh yes the infamous discovery of Green..

At minus 20 or when boarding is about to commence, the gate agent calls the lounge to advise boarding has started and a general boarding call is made within the lounge. At minus 8, FTB protocol is enacted and the first action the agents undertake alongside locating the paxs bag, is to contact the lounge again. If the lounge agent has failed to make a minimum of these two announcements, then I'd be concerned about the level of professionalism the SYD lounge staff maintain.

You stated "Not justifying incompetence. To say it should be eradicated is both unrealistic and not a practical solution.

I was simply using your analogy, not dealing with aircraft maintenance specifically, are you saying it is alright to be reticent in one area but not the other, not in my business.

Definitely safe fail. Eg. if it fails it will evoke some form of safety mechanism. Like dead man switches on trains.

No boarding call and no page.

Perhaps I missed the 2 boarding calls but how did I miss the 2 personal pages as well? Something is seriously wrong and in my extremely simplistic opinion the lounge staff socialise way too much when on duty. I see it way too often. Sometimes I am made to feel as I am interrupting something important. You think I am exaggerating? Observe their behaviour next time.
