UPDATE:

I've been in contact with both Langtons and Greys.

The money that Greys wanted to handle a sale was ridiculous.

Langtons have been quite reasonable in their offer to sell some wine. Based on commissions and prices I can expect to receive from the sale of similar items over the past 12 months on their web site I'd probably just break even selling 500 bottles at the price that I purchased them for over the last 5 to 10 years.

I haven't signed off yet, but I am surprised with the money on offer.

Simple,

Open a wine bar. Then you can drink a glass and sell four at the going rate
allowing you to buy even more and not feel guilty.

Or try hypnosis

Every wine bar in my area has gone bankrupt!

And I do not have the temperament to be the perfect host :)

You may also wish to consider Wickmans. I have purchased a few items from them and happy with the result

How easy is that Doc.....peel some off every year, or twice a year. Who ever said you were going to drink them anyway? A great investment - you bet !
I mean look at us all with more than a bot each to drink daily till we die? Was anyone of us seriously thinking that we would actually drink the lot?
And wait till punters find out that it's your stock and see the auction results fly.
A no brainer..............maybe like Jameka?
Jameka ...no , she came on her own accord.

I'm sure redbigot gotta have mates with liquor licence, perhaps engage them to handle the sale at fixed price for 10% buyer's premium? Still cheaper than both buyer and seller premium charged by Langton's.

UPDATE:

No wine purchased for 3 weeks. That's the longest period of time I can recall within the last 10 years.

Christmas presents also put aside. Guess what everyone's getting this year :)

About 100 bottles removed from the cellar during the last 3 week period.

But things now getting more difficult.

Dr Ralph, if you are considering auctions, would you consider selling some mixed packs to members here?

Dr Ralph, I am still waiting for the AFF BBQ invite at your place... You will quickly find you have the opposite problem. These guys can drink!!!

It's not appropriate that I would advertise that here. And I didn't set up this thread for that purpose.

Having said that, I have done this in the past.

This may happen at some stage in the future.

And after being banned from a restaurant tonight it may happen sooner than I thought!

Go on and fully elucidate for us......................................did you blow your entire bottle credit on one meal?

I won't waste your time with a detailed story. In short the owner of a very ordinary pizza restaurant in Wollongong called Terra Mia is seriously unbalanced and deranged. One may even call them a petulant child. They tried to charge me a 17% surcharge for using my credit card when they knew I didn't have enough cash to cover the bill. They couldn't accept any criticism of their business and service and their response was to ban me from their establishment. Can't say that I'm particularly concerned about it although the people I was with, who were visiting Wollongong, were very embarrassed by the events. They'll no doubt be telling friends and colleagues of their experiences and to never visit that restaurant. Seems a very silly approach to have taken by the owner. Clearly they have no understanding of how news of these types of events spreads remarkably quickly and a businesses reputation can be destroyed in an instant.

should thank them on their facebook/zomato page for the ban and 17% surcharge.

Hey Dr Ralph, really interesting thread so far! I'd also love to buy some aged wines from your cellar as previously mentioned. After spending countless weekends digging under my house and bricking up a cellar, I'm now working on building shelves and stocking them up. Mainly 2012 vintages and later at the moment, but it would be great to have some older bottles to be able to drink now while I watch my new wines age. I'm sure there wouldn't be a shortage of AFFers in the same boat that could offer much better premiums than auction houses
