I never thought I'd say it....damn iPhone 4

I tried to sync but it has come up that it needs 1Mb of space to continue (IIRC).
Found it, it says The iPhone "Lindsay's iPhone" cannot be synced because there is not enough free space to hold all the items in the iTunes Library (additional 1MB required).

It would be me, wouldn't it - 1 Mb FCS :p:evil::confused:

Make an appt at genius bar and take your computer and the phone and let them sort it out.

I have one client who did that.

I have a staff member who has done the I phone expert training course.

Very tempting, but as I usually give up on technical challenges (well anything that I know is beyond my capabilities - which is generally most things :o ) I think I am going to try and nut this one out.

but I can't do anything until it stops "Please wait...updating Library" under Photo - been sitting there doing that for the last 5 minutes...

On the iPhone can you go Settings General Usage and tell us how much space you are using on the iPhone?

You may need to delete some more stuff (whether it be photos, apps whatever).

It does say Capacity 14Gb, Available 0 bytes - and yes I'm only using Version 4.3.5 (8L1)

Time to have lunch and delete some apps...it's not as if I have a lot of them (33 - 2/3rds mine and some for the kids)

Hmm, how long will that take me to work out :o

Pretty sure I toggled one of the drop down boxes at the bottom of the Picassa screen, asking them to delete from iPhone. cough, this is just too difficult for me ---- aaghhhh, I think I'm going to have some lunch and do some work instead
notzac, back into Picassa now. Yes, definitely imported to My Pictures on my C: and "after copying" I chose the option "delete only copied photos". It's now copying again...1,711 files

...so after they're all copied (and you've verified the files are in your My Pictures or wherever you're storing them), delete them from the iPhone

Oh great....

"An error has occured while attempting to import. Either the source is unavailable or the destination is full or read only".

Yet in Picassa, I can see 787 photos ..... too hard basket :(:confused:

You could try deleting some of the photos that are in Picasa from your iPhone. You might be able to get enough free space to back up and sync.
Some future tips:
(maybe read later when you're not as frustrated with the phone)
* Sync and check for updates once a week
* Do not use the phone for permanent storage of photos and videos - get them backed up & stored somewhere else
* (kind of goes without saying, but don't jump into a pool with the phone in your pocket - have been without mine for ~48hrs now)

I thought that is what I have asked it to do twice now....it gets to 838 files and freezes. Think I have worked out why - because there are some (30 or 40 from first glance) photos where the thumbnail and photo don't show, so I have been right clicking on them and "including photo" but I have to be quicker (especially as I also clicked on the "exclude" so it isn't copying ones I have already copied across).

Hmm, learning something slowly today.

I just made a genius bar appt for the weekend - the website definitely did not like IE, I needed to use Firefox.

I'm actually thinking about deleting them directly from the phone - if they are in Picasa already, but still showing in the library in the phone, then deleting some of them one-by-one to get some more space.

Just for the record - if anyone ever gets battery problems - contrary to popular belief putting in a new battery is only a 10 min job at best and the new batteries are pretty cheap (if you cant find one locally they will ship to Australia). See ifixit.com for details. Or get a new phone

When mrssimongr's phone was full of photos we manually deleted the pics from the phone which worked well. We seem though to have inherited one image that we just can't kill, import or view...

Mal I never said that nothing ever went wrong with OSX/iOS - I just have fewer issues with it by a long way. I also don't expect many devices to function that well when they have 1MB of free space on them...

Well, I'd better crack on with downloading all my trip photos to my Trip Report, then I can delete them.

No wonder it has been bouncing me out of everything over the past month - where did that spare space go :o???

Photos are the killer - also I know that mrssimongr doesn't like to delete photos after importing them to iPhoto - the problem that creates is that it is then harder to delete the photos after that point.

I have now created two albums in iPhoto "smallboygr" and "mrssimongr's hobby" - we move photos into those smart albums and sync them through iTunes. Keeps the right photos on the phone and manages down the volume on the phone.

When I upgraded my iPhone I had trouble importing my photos to my computer. But I found you can just click on the phone icon in "My Computer" or the mac equiv and access the photos that way...

In OSX the phone is not accessible through that functionality. You need to use "Image editor" or something like that.
