Did someone say nuts and cookies, AA is a 2 class airline, great if you are in front not so great if you are in back, yes there are 3 classes on some routes If you have status AA seem to help you first but if you are the once a year flyer it would feel like you are traveling in a bus.

And a photo with a cookie, very nice. On the afternoon DFW-LAX flight Ice cream was served after the meal instead of the cookie, the meal was a steak(not great by world standards) but good for airline food.

MEL-PER isn't really transcontinental , more almost transcontinental. SYD-PER is 5 hours and BNE-PER is slightly longer. Comparing the business class on QF vs the 763/762s that tend to ply the east-west coast non stop, I would rate AA much higher in business class/ (762)/1st class(763)

The MD80s et al on the shorter routes are ok, but nothing special but then QF J isn't that amazing domestically

Dave
As per your examples Dave. Whether it is AA or QF each is better than the other in some circumstances. The new QF A330's are the best product and the 743 is probably the worst. For AA the 763/762 are great but the MD80 is not.

AA International is "ok", just ok... I'll book BA and QF or many others before i book AA.

I fly AA "F" class (which i find a joke) to cincinnati quite often... domestic, they keep taking my coat and not giving it back to me unless i ask for it... it really annoys me...

What I find really interesting with all this is just how subjective the answer really is.

You have your perspective yet to others here AA can do no wrong when compared to BA and QF :!:

There are much better airlines than BA/QF for 1st class travel

There are much better aircraft than any airlines 1st class, take my global express as an example, just to keep the thread on topic ;)

It never ceases to amaze me how much people will put personal comfort ahead of safety when such comparisons come up, I will never complain again about any aircraft flown by an Australian trained pilot to be frank, no matter what the airline. I would have much rather been in the F cabin of the recent CX A330 evac at HKG than the EK F cabin of the aircraft that did some renovations to the MEL ground equipment had they both had a F cabin.

Agreed. Amazing but cultural aspects have a big part to play with some airlines.

Um. EK sems to have a lot of Australian pilots and seems quite common to have them on the flights I have been on.

I don't want to be on any more aroplanes that have issues, but have no concerns over either of those safety wise

.... and AA.

Indeed. the person had already suggested that QF/BA was better than AA :)

It is a shame that QF went from being one of the best for comfort ( when they put flat beds in 1st, they were at the head of the pack ) to being an also ran whilst also turning the FF scheme from a really good one into what it is now.

Talking recently to a friend who flies for Qantas and his summary was that whilst a lot of the company personal do not like where they are going (no pun) and a lot of people such as us do not like where they are going they are catering for the masses and have managed to cut costs significantly and have kept the airline profitable.

Well I'm more interested in what the company personnel think :) LOL

Funnily enough pretty much the same from my contacts they actually have a lot of faith in senior management making the right, tough decisions and keeping them in a job.

Having just completed my first QF F sector I really would not put QF ahead of AA F international(not behind either).Cabin dull, bed hard and lumpy, steak like old boots-there really must be better.Staff good to very good though rescues the situation.

I wouldn't say that the masses are buying 1st class tickets. If they are cutting costs by reducing that which is provided in the premium cabins, that is not a good thing as far as I am concerned. QF are not a cheap airline to fly on as it is

QF used to be an airline of choice for me when their 1st product was new, now it is dated and well behind those I do use; even their latest product on the A380 is still way behind; cutting costs and having customers go elsewhere doesn't seem like the best approach to me

There really is better; some routes, such as US, are harder to get better without scenic journeys , but for Europe , for example, there is far better - just don't get blinkered by FF miles and you can find several

Dave

I'm going with the OP on this one. I have only had AA Y and as such rate it worse than QF Y. With limited drinks and only BOB, matched with staff who weren't motivated to do serve, I can't see how AA could be equal or better.

Dave,

I didn't make it clear, my mistake, that when making my previous post I was talking about across the board and not specifically in F.

Your answer though confirms what I was saying. QF management are not particularly worried about pxx_ing off and consequently loosing the odd Dave Noble as a passenger. They are more concerned about being seem by the general travelling public en-mass as 'a good, safe and reliable airline' and as such in protecting their overall bottom line. Whether you or I like their route forward with this is irrelevant as their strategy seems to be working.

That may be a good approach of trying to convince the masses aboard, but doesn't seem that amazing an approach for a sales techique for premium cabins

Personally, I see a correlation between a poor 1st product and poor sales leading to their planned removal of 1st from nearly all routes. Keep a product poor , people wont buy it and can justify its removal

If that's their approach, that's fine, I am most happy with airlines I have been using; even Air France was better in business :)
