Don't think that's correct. There are passenger-accessible fridges for wine & other drinks for J class pax, at least, on most long haul flights these days. All galleys must have at least the equivalent, you would think, for drinks and ice at least.

I guess the same as Qantas carries economy cutlery to the plane - separate from the meal tray. In economy the cutlery is in a plastic bag, in business and first it's wrapped in a napkin. That trolley doesn't have to be chilled, or if it is, you take out the box with the cutlery once on board.

well I guess the same way Y cutlery travels onto the plane is in a tub, in a chilled cart too. Why don't you ask for Y cutlery ?

I don't have a problem with chilled cutlery Only chilled tea cups and coffee mugs. I'm sure however in 2016 there are solutions for delivering non-chilled cutlery if there was a great enough demand.

Interestingly, as a counterpart to this thread, there was one about why drinks weren't cold (http://www.australianfrequentflyer....estions/onboard-ice-cold-beer-coke-72846.html). That thread touched upon the lack of refrigeration in commercial aircraft.

Sweet it's a date. I depart BNE on 23/12. I can pick you up if you're arriving at a later date. POM accommodation will be cramped. Your abode will be located on 'dolau' side of Hawaii island, Manus. You'll need snorkelling gear. The highlight will be the detention centre. Apparently I look like a refugee, according to my auntie. Please pm to confirm.

After due consideration I think - ice-cold cutlery QF J & CX J & cold cutlery EX F.
Not cold cutlery SQ J & F - but maybe I was just overwhelmed by their service & possibly the Krug.

I've always noticed the icy chill of the cutlery on the rare occasions someone else has paid my J fare. I thought it must have been a thing expected by the high and mighty.

A bit like Kramer from Seinfeld and his clothes hot out of the dryer.

I have noticed the cold cutlery but frankly hasn't bothered me much. Holding them in the palm of your hand for 30 seconds is usually enough to get rid of the chill. I'm a very slow eater so am used to food being lukewarm by the time I finish so cold cutlery not a big deal!

Agree the butter problem (but with easy enough solution) and warm drinks are a problem.

But to what I think is the OP's main point - that given airlines can charge so much for J or F tickets these little things should be done right - I completely agree, even if there are some logistical difficulties.

On my next J flight in a couple of weeks I'm going to bring a couple of chemical hand warmers and slip them into the napkin set for a couple of minutes before I eat; although I guess I'd best check with the airline as to whether or not such things are allowed on board.

It wasn't for cutlery, but when I flying in F on Cathay from Milan to Hong Kong earlier this year I did ask the flight attendant to get me some water from Y as all they had in F was Evian which I can't stand (it tastes like dirt). They happily obliged.
