If JQ get the 787 before QF will you walk?

I doubt I will walk, but QF tends to force my hand with me walking anyway. Whenever QF drops a route and handballs it to JQ, I fly VA. If only VA was in *A.

The 767 would be a great option if it had the refit, but that doesn't change the fact it is far less efficient than the 787.

It hardly matters what the aircraft type is, if the fitout is godawful. The 737 BSI for example are still just 3-3 which doesn't make them the aircraft of choice for anyone really. No getting away from the fact that just about everyone hates a middle seat. If the 787 has squishy fitout then no amount of kangaroos on the tail or global roadshows will make it the pax aircraft of choice. Who cares.

Just about nothing QF has done recently seems to be making QFFs happy so that tradition continues. I think many QFF status pax are in it for the OW benefits anyway. QF could fly tin cans around Aus and it will make precious little difference.

Having seen the 787, I'm not that super keen to get on board as a paying passenger - It's, kinda of small!

Looks great from the outside. If they fit it out 3-3-3 or fit dodgy J seats - others can have it.

I'm not one to worry about how the plane looks on the outside, or how efficient it is....comfort/fit-out is everything!

Having also seen it not in much of a hurry to fly it now it does feel small specially in the 3-3-3 config and as I have said before what seems to be much lower overhead bins. Glad im not the only one not in a rush. And as for QF getting these first Not a cat in hells chance

The f lounge in hong kong is a joke, spent 5 minutes in it last night before proceeding to the Cathy f lounge for the remainder of my 6 hour stopover.

I had a mate past through HKG last week and say exactly same thing, verbatim above.

But they are getting the 787 first, it’s like asking if tomorrow is a new day will you walk… there are no if’s :p

Anyway, personally, I see the continued un-loyalty shown by JQ to be a bigger issue than who gets which birds first. As I remarked to someone else today, JQ can’t continue to be un-loyal to QFF members in regards to how they’re treated to maintain their marketshare stranglehold.

You’re loyal to QF, they are loyal to you, QF pulls out and they give you JQ and expect you to be loyal to them, but JQ aren’t loyal to you, quite frankly they could care less about you, so you head to someone who values your loyalty, and someone else who doesn’t care about loyalty flies JQ. So far, no change to JQ earning money, but if those that look for loyalty start spending more with your competitor, and your competitor grows, you start to lose marketshare.

I agree with the above statement, from a FF perspective. Don't forget, there are pax who are on a budget, so JQ flying from major cities has been a real benefit to them.
OOL would be a good market to study on this matter. Maybe Markis10 can dig up some numbers?

I asked in another thread, when QF get JQ A330's, what will the layout/seats will be in J?

Given the 788s will no doubt be 3-3-3 in Y and 2-3-2 in J, give me QFd 332s with 2-4-2 in Y and 2-2-2 in J.

Most people have no idea what the aircraft is when they book or when they fly: big (2 aisle) or small (1 aisle) is a close as it gets. Many do not know if aircraft has 2, 3 or 4 engines.
Here on AFF we notice, but most pax do not.

I did not know this. I will passing through hong kong in November. Hoping to be pleasantly surprised. :)

AFAIK Singapore & Hong Kong new F lounges are scheduled to open late this year....LAX new F & J sometime next year.

Question - If you were in AJ's shoes would you; delay the A380's and refurbish the 747's (as he has done, planning to do), or continue with the A380's on order and slowly retire the 747's as they (A380) come off the line?

If I was in AJ's shoes, I'd doubtless do exactly what he's done.

However, one has to wonder what happened to all of those advantages that QF spruiked when they first launched the A380: how it was more efficient than the 747s it was replacing, how passengers would flock to fly the A380; how the cabin experience would keep passengers coming back etc etc. I'd have thought - given how we keep hearing that QFi is losing money, how QFi keep losing passengers to rivals - that these would be reasons to accelerate the A380 purhcases, not delay them.

But then, I doubt there will be much need for A380s - the hub busters - if QF continue to withdraw from hubs such as LHR and given how much AJ whinges about how uneconomic the trans-PAC is becoming; I can't imagine them having a great turnaround time on SYD-MEL which will soon be all that's left of this once great iconic airline.

Regards,

BD

My opinion - based on absolutely no knowledge of the subject:!:

Unless they start adding routes, you have to wonder if there is much of a need to add more A380's to the fleet. Makes you wonder if the delay of the A380 & then 787 impacted on the strategy & therefore, the pouring of money into the remaining 747's:?:

As for the me - when traveling J I have no problem flying in a refurb 747.....In F, I'd select the A380. If they fitted new F cabins in the 747 I'd select 747 over 380!

I wonder if the new First seats would fit on the upper deck of a 747 in a 1-1 arrangement? It would have a very nice private cabin feel if it did IMO.

see Lufthansa's new F (which is UD 747).

It looks incredible.

Pretty much sums it up.

Just a bit of a newbie question though - regarding the 787 - is it possible to have the B787 Y cabin delivered as 2-4-2 Y or is 3-3-3 Y the only option?

Once we have QF/JQ 787's with 2-3-2 J seating and 3-3-3 Y layout and the QF/JQ A330's with 2-3-2 J seating and 2-4-2 Y layout I think we will have quite a few people lamenting the demise of the 767's!

The B787 is available in 2-4-2. ANA run them as such Photos and flight report: ANA However 9-across is going to remove all comfort with regards to width in Y just as the carriers that jam 10-across in B777s do now. At the end of the day if you're stuck in Y, the personal space available to you starts to become a higher priority than the aircraft type.

Jet* Asia isn't 100% owned by QF is it? Seems a bit wrong for the QF 787's to get the 9V treatment at the expense of QF pax... IMO.

That said if they upgraded their 763's and ensure the A332's returning to QF are given the VH-EBM / VH-EBN treatment it should be ok.

Being 6'4" and having toured the 787, I cannot wait to take flight in it.

There is never going to be 'head room' on a seat on a window (or any of those seats). I could also right across the middle without ducking (just!) as well (on the 787 that was in MEL the other day).

There is an overwhelming sense of space on these compared to anything. To say it has less room than a 767 or is cramped/uncomfortable is, imho, simply untrue.

As for 'walking', is the OP Serious? I doubt 99% of flyers even have a clue as to what aircraft they're flying on.

I also seem to recall reading that the first 787's were being re-directed back to QF due to the perceived 'threat' from VA routing their new 330's to compete with the old 767 clunkers.

I think we really do tend to be a little touchy on QF and VA these days. Remember they are a business. A business of getting people from A to B, first and foremost, safely, which they are doing.

And i've already 'walked' around 90% of my business. I now fly VA to/from the USA (mainly in Y+ thanks to them being frequently $1-2k less than QF and still a very good product), and only use minimal QF services (basically enough to get my 4 ~'s and keep my WP with all the flying I do on AA).

I cannot see the A330s getting much of a refurb as its domestic they are slated for.
