If you change your flights, do you lose your points upgrade request?

(OK, please go easy... I am quite new to this world and this is the first time I have tried to upgrade on points)

OK, I was one of those who were invited to request an upgrade on points from O, which I took up. I am currently on QF31 on 6 August, which was an A380, but I just noticed it has been replaced with a 747 [sigh....]

The upshot of this is that on seat counter it now looks like a relatively full flight. However QF1 on the same day is showing pretty much all 9's.

So, to increase my prospects of getting said upgrade, does anyone know if I can change my flight to QF1 and keep the upgrade request? I have checked and I can easily and cheaply change the flight, but as the offer has closed, clearly I cannot re-submit an upgrade request. Would changing by telephone rather than the over the net be a better option, as I can raise this with the person doing to booking?

Any advice would greatly be appreciated!

I suspect the answer would be no, you would not be able to change to QF1 and request an upgrade from O. QF have made the offer based on you flying QF31, not QF1. It can't hurt to phone and ask anyway.

From my knowledge, it doesn't matter. If you change a flight, you lose your position in the upgrade tree and either have to resubmit or forget about an upgrade.

This is what happened to me on a DOM flight. I changed bookings after I had a confirmed upgrade and the whole thing got very messy...

Yep, just checked with QF and they confirmed I would lose the upgrade request.

So, my dilemma now is whether I stay on QF31, and keep what seems to be a very small chance of an upgrade and a very high chance of a full flight.....or move to QF1 with no upgrade but maybe some spare seats up back or even an exit row (paid for or otherwise).....hmmmm, decisions, decisions....

Have you also taken into account the change fees and ( if it is the 1st sector ) the repricing cost of the ticket that may apply if you make the change

Being in O class , it would seem likely that there would be a change fee applicable
( assuming changes are permitted)

Presumably you're flying SYD-LHR.

FWIW, given the substitution of an aircraft with less capacity and the loadings, it is more likely your upgrade would come through.

Qantas have gone from 332 to 255 WHY seats so would be looking to promote as many as they can for some level of return.

Yep, luckily including the change fee the cost to change is the princely sum of $54.30. Sensational for a $1,500 fare to LHR! (Oh how I would wish this could last, this is my second $1,500 fare there this year....)

Incidentally, I am planning on extending my trip by a week, so I can kill 2 birds for that price...

Yes I am, and a V good point. I think you have made my decision for me...
