IHG Hotels that recognise status

Recently stayed at HI Potts Point. ( IHG Plat. )
A little disappointing ( spoilt by stays at Sydney IC as RA ?? ) ...
Booked basic 'double bed' room.
Received same bed type, but on 7th. floor ...
Outstanding view of the city, bridge, SOH and a bit of harbour ...
So, what was 'disappointing' ??
No mini-bar ( I mean NIL !! ) The fridge was completely empty - no drinks - nothing !!
Certainly no comp. bottle of anything ...
In fact, there was no indication that I was indeed 'upgraded'. If I didn't ring the desk to confirm, I wouldn't have thought I was upgraded, having never stayed before, I didn't know if 'a view' only, was the 'upgrade', or there was 'something else' ??
Got back from seeing Gatsby, and wanted Room Service just after midnight. Sorry, the only hot food they do at that time of night, is 'wedges' ...
Can you believe it, we drank a $100. bottle of Bollinger with WEDGES !!!! ( both our birthdays are only two days apart - and yes, spent a fortune seeing the movie in Gold Class. Never paid $250. to take a girl to the movies before !! )
but anyway, we had a 'nice time' in the room though ...

Intercontinental Singapore - May 2013 (Platinum Ambassador)
booked Shophouse Club room - received Premier Club Room (huge!)

received welcome letter, welcome gift of Chinese spoon, mineral water, fruit platter, chocolates.

staff lovely, club lounge afternoon tea quite basic, but canapés and coughtails provided in downstairs lobby as we had our children. I think this was a better atmosphere as its a beautiful lobby lounge with Piano player......the amount of canapés provided was unbelievable, two stands of cold canapés, then 4 or 5 ceramic pots of hot canapés!! The ladies serving are so polite, lovely and absolutely beautiful to look at my husband was drooling.....

An issue with our room adjoining the service lift but the hotel more than compensated us when checking out and full of apologies.

A lovely hotel, brilliant location but we were spoilt by our stay a week earlier at the Ritz Carlton which was unbelievable!!

Crowne plaza Glasgow.
PC plat. (Profile might still show AMB as well).
2 night sat/sun prepaid rate.

Was upgraded to club floor Inc. Lounge access. Seem to have been comped breakfast in main restaurant.

IH Hanoi Westlake

PC Plat

Lots of 'Oh, you're a Platinum, thank you for choosing our hotel'

Actual benefits/upgrade/other: Nil

HI Melbourne Airport

HI Old Sydney

No other items received, but the staff give great service

16 July
HI Parramatta
Status: Platinum
Booked: 2 Double Beds Superior
Received: King Bed Suite
Rate: Reward stay - 20,000 points
2 complimentary bottles water

King suite has a small separate lounge as you enter the room with a sofa bed and 46” TV. There was a Nespresso coffee maker, 4 x coffee pods, only 3 x single serves of milk and 2 x cups with no saucers.
The suite was right opposite the lifts and my son who was on the sofa bed said he could hear the lift bell all night.
The bathroom was dated with shower over the two person spa. The bath/shower setup needed a safety rail to assist in getting in and out as it was really dangerous. The toilet’s cistern was not hidden behind the wall.
There was another 46” TV in the king bedroom plus bathrobes and slippers. The spare blanket stored in the cupboard was really dirty and stained .

The bar area is quite nice and they had a special on bottles of Coopers for $6. Bar snacks were reasonably priced and the wedges were fresh and tasty.
Breakfast in the restaurant was very ordinary and overpriced at $22.95 for continental and $25.95 for cooked. Airpots contained the coffee and tea and I was told I would have to pay for cappuccino (no thanks).

I had planned to have a shower at 10am before a long trip home and the hotel turned the water off with no advance warning  (I saw a maintenance guy turning off the valve as I was returning to the hotel at 10 and it was still off at 11.15)
I requested an 11.30 checkout but housekeeping were knocking on the door at 11.02.

Then to top off the stay, my bill showed I had been charged for internet (should be free for Gold and Plat) and also a $30 odd charge for accommodation (???what – I was on a reward night). These charges were quickly reversed when I queried them.

CP Manchester city centre.
PC Plat.
Booked cheapest room type.
Upgraded to club floor + lounge access.

Nice hotel. Bathroom layout is a bit naff but is still nice. Was given 2x free drink vouchers for the bar although the choices are limited for the free drinks (wine, beer, spirits but only specific ones).

Lounge is OK. Continental brekkie in the morning, (upgrade to full English downstairs for £9). Bottled water, several juices, nespresso machine, cookies, fruit and soft drinks available all day. Bar service and canapes from 6 to 8pm. (Wine / beer / spirits from selected brands)

Hotel has free WiFi... It is horribly slow though. they push you to upgrade to their paid plans.

Holiday Inn Auckland Airport
Status: Platinum

Received nothing except letter, no upgraded room, no chocolates, no bottle of wine.

Disappointing
With the half dozen times or so that I have stayed there as Gold/Platinum, I received a welcome letter with a couple of free drink vouchers.

Stayed at IC Melbourne for 3 nights as a Platinum Ambassador with my 7 year old. Upgraded room and water bottles replaced daily, no welcome letter or gift.

I don't know why but I always get more recognition of being a platinum at the Holiday Inn on Flinders than at IC Melbourne.

If I recall correctly, I think it's been said that the Holiday Inn on Flinders has a great manager and does well recognising elites.

In any case, ICs recognise Ambassador (or Royal Ambassador) much more than IHG Platinum or Gold. Platinum without Ambassador certainly doesn't guarantee any upgrades at all, and you would be lucky to get any welcome gifts.

ICs may be under the IHG banner but as for the elite programme they are somewhat semi-detached.

Sorry about that - well you should've at least received your Ambassador benefits, which include upgrade (received), water daily (received), fruit and gift on arrival (seems not to have received) and a bunch of others.

But the point still stands that IC properties don't really recognise IHG Platinum; they only recognise if you have Ambassador, and much more if you have Royal Ambassador.

Agreed on IC not recognising Platinum's with out Ambassador status.

I just find the HI much more friendly and accommodating as a Platinum than the IC in Melbourne does as a Platinum Ambassador, which surprises me a bit.

Currently at Holiday Inn Sukhumvit (BKK) where my comped Gold status was warmly welcomed. The best thing about it is the free internet.

Although I do wish they had Al Jazeera English on the television.

I was staying at the IC BKK recently & the Platinum Ambassador benefits were very forthcoming.. Welcome letter never failed at IC.
Upgraded to Corner Suite & lovely gift, fresh fruits daily, as well as some 6 bottles of H2O per day & a quality bottle of Shiraz set out nicely in the room one afternoon. :D

IC Manila was also delightful: Upgraded to a large suite, welcome letter & welcome gift, a delicious chocolate cake & numerous bottles of H2O. :D

Agreed about the IC in MEL not so generous.
I recall having an offer once of a larger room or IC Club access. The former was a more desired choice. :D
