IHG Hotels that recognise status

IC will upgrade you to the room, but don't usually give you the benefits that go with it, unless you already had club access with your original booking, or have the 40+ night milestone lounge access locked in.

Cheers,
Matt
OK, I'll stand corrected. I'm only going by what IC Mel did to me many, many moons ago. Things will have changed for sure (and not always for the better) 😞

This. As a newbie to the IHG family, I find this arrangement somewhat annoying and penny-pinching - here's your upgrade to a club room, that doesn't include any club facilities. At least it's all spelled out in the program T&Cs. At least they don't do the +$5 barista coffee tax at breakfast, or +$10 "upgrade" to from continental to full buffet (looking at you Hilton, including Hilton Melbourne!)

Yes, though I did say 'usually', on purpose, because there are some properties that will include it, and some will include it one time, but not another! I've had this with both Singapore (Bugis) and Sydney, over the years. The T&Cs however are pretty clear that an upgrade to a club room, club floor, suite etc does not mean club access is given as well.

Agreed - there's generally not much, if anything, different about the club room of the same type to make it an upgrade, though you do tend to be on higher floors, and sometimes you'll have better amenities or features in the room, so it's still probably better than what you booked... but, given the name of the room type says club access; it's certainly misleading and can only result in disappointment for most.

Cheres,
Matt.

Case by case. IC Melb have upgraded me twice to Club room and I got access....

I didn't have access when I stayed a few weeks ago at IC Melbourne when I got upgraded to a Club room
I didn't have access as a Diamond when we were upgraded to a Club room and it was our honeymoon (as in not made up). Well, we did get access but then it was rescinded when we didn't have the 40-night credit...

Similarly we stayed at IC Melbourne last week and were upgraded to a Club Floor King room. The room was definitely bigger than the "Atrium View" room we stayed in last time, and was nice. But no club lounge access.

And they charged us for Breakfast on one day and not the other. Breakfast we my selected Diamond amenity. So they are processing the refund of $84 that was what they charged for breakfast for 2 people. Will take "5-7 days" apparently to process the refund. Will keep an eye on it, of course.

No issues with the Ambassador $25 food/beverage credit. Although I spent a little under $22 and so some of that $25 credit was applied to the breakfast. So will be interesting to see if they refund $84 or $81.

I really should have asked for a printed bill at check-out rather than just having it emailed to me, needing later followup to get the error fixed. Lesson learned - next time the bill will be scrutinised with an intense scrute before departing.

I never got my bill e-mailed to me (although I did ask for confirmation of the final price before leaving). Not sure why as I also didn't get one when I stayed at IC Sydney the day before (although that one was a points stay). IHG systems might have been down or something as I received an e-mailed bill when I stayed at IC Adelaide in March. I'll have to ask for a printed one when I'm back at IC Melbourne next month.

Usually when you choose breakfast amenity they give you paper cards to hand in so you are not charged when redeeming.

Not at the places I've stayed at in Australia. I've only received cards or coupons for drinks. They just check my name off a list when I say I want to have breakfast; this is my room number.

Have never experienced this

Any update on status recognition for Tokyo IHG hotels? I am Diamond Elite.
Back in spire days at one of the ICs, upgrade to club room but no club access, can't recall what we did for breakfast.

Hotel: Holiday Inn Colchester (UK)
When: May 10 2023
Status: Platinum
Rate: Best flexible (booked 3 days out, only rate available)
Booked: Queen bed standard (I think)
Received: Twin room. On getting to the room, at 3:30pm, I returned to reception and asked for a double or queen. Told fully booked - can't do. I should have pressed - at 3:30pm they wouldn't have been anywhere near all checked in, but I had a lot on my mind and didn't. In the end it was OK - somewhere to crash.
Amenity Offered: Points or 1 drinks - opted for drink. No mention of breakfast, but I didn't want it - was going to be on the road early.
Other: Free parking. Restaurant not bad.

This is exactly what I expected - London periphery, next to motorway, weekend wedding & function venue. Road-business traveller standard, but b-all status recognition beyond a drink.

I stayed here in February and I didn't get a breakfast card, only a drinks card.

Are you Diamond and did you select breaky as your amenity?

I was given a card for each morning which had x 2 and handed it to staff member then straight to buffet.
