IHG Hotels that recognise status

No actually wasn't even contrived NM and serfty. (if it was a real matress run, I'd have been staying with Hilton or SPG, as they use stays and/or nights, as you know PC is nights).

Had booked the last 3 nights @ CP back in July (for Conference). Decided last week that I should make full use of being down there and see clients as well. Went to increase stay and CP wanted $405 for Tues night, so booked HI instead (only ~$260). Then extended my stay again when a client wanted to change to early Tues AM appt. I then changed flights and strangely, HI was more expensive than CP for Mon night.

CP Terrigal.

Booked the cheapest rooms on 14 day advance rate and stayed 2 nights last week and 1 night this week and both got upgraded.
The first stay upgraded to ocean view king room and the second one to top floor ocean view king spa corner suite.
No other platinum recognition received eg. fruit basket or hand written welcome note.

Crowne Plaza JFK.

Stayed on an award night (5000 points) as a Gold. Don't know if they recognised my Gold status, or it was a normal treat.

Got a fruit platter and some water complimentary. There were also discounts available on food from the restaurant.

Lindsay Wilson,

Might have to plan a trip to Torquay then, although I note the rates for the first few months are relatively expensive.

HI Parkview Singapore

My daughter & wife stayed there 11/12 and 14/12 under my platinum prepaid booking.
No upgrade for the first night and got upgraded on the second night only after repeated request to exec level but not entitled to use the exec level facilities.

By comparison the 2 nights in between (12/12 & 13/12) they stayed at the Hilton and got upgraded to executive level with all the executive level benefits.

I must say that there’s no comparison between HI Parkview Singapore and Hilton Singapore.

22/12 Intercontinental, Bangkok

Allocated - 2 double beds grand deluxe room
Notes - welcome drink, personal welcome note from GM, escort by checkin person to room, complimentary 2 bottles of water and platter of fruit delivered to room early evening

Probably a bit too late for you now but I would definately recommend this hotel for price and location.

I have stayed in both and would have to say that they are very similar. Unless you have a very good corporate rate the Hilton can be very expensive and not worth the extra money.

Hi John - Not too late leaving chc to-morrow - going to see if IC Singapore will accept buy one g/one free . Sounds like that is the place to be. Thank you and have a relaxing Xmas day

Holiday Inn Atrium Singapore. 4 nights.
Was upgraded as a Plat to a higher floor (2nd highest Non-Smoking floor). Room type was booked as a 'superior', I think I ended up with a downgrade to 'deluxe'. No other benefit offered that I'm aware of.

General comment on the hotel is that it is nice, but out of the way of any MTR station (10 min walk in the open air). Taxis are cheap though, and it's near some of the nightclubs etc.

Intercontinental Bangkok (Award 5000 points). 2 nights.
Similar to JohnK's experience. Fruit platter, water, in-room checkin, free drink from the bar, note from the Manager etc. Booked King Room Deluxe, think I was given King Room Deluxe. They also had a note indicating what benefits I was entitled to as a Plat, which really wasn't much at the IC.

Nice hotel. Great location on the BTS so easy to go places. I've never been keen on in-room checkin - why do hotels do it?

Holiday Inn Bangkok (Across the pathway from the IC). 2 nights. Room type was booked as a standard King.
Checked in pretty early (11am or so). I was offered a double room, not the King I wanted. Asked if the King was possible, they said not ready yet, so started the checkin process, and came back later to collect the key.
Upon returning about 2pm, lots of chatting in Thai between the front staff (which I know instantly means a problem in Bangkok!). Had a keycard for me on the 8th floor of the "North wing" which are the better rooms, but they then apologised for not being able to upgrade me mentioning that as a Platinum I was entitled to a room upgrade of 1 type. I wasn't fussed, so said "no worry" and ended up in Floor 5 of the standard hotel. Wasn't in the mood to find out whether they were going to give me any other benefits and just wanted the room.

Not as nice as the IC of course, but same location and you can charge stuff back to your room from either the IC or HI.

So didn't really have big successes at upgrades!! Being over Christmas/New Year didn't help much.

CP Hunter Valley

Had another 1 night stay at the above on 30 Dec 07.

Booked standard room on best available rate and got double upgraded to a 2 bedroom villa (again! :D ).

Received a fruit basket and welcome note from manager as platinum benefit.

Do any IHG hotels offer a free movie to PC Platinum members?

I remember reading on AFF or FT of someone receiving this benefit often but they may have been a Royal Ambassador.

It is (or at least was) a benefit to RA.

CP Surfer's Paradise

Welcome call from the Duty Manager, letter + newspaper, then later a card & chocolates

Also managed to get a room upgrade for the 2nd night.

Very impressed, best service I've had as a lowly gold.

Edit: I was also sick (vomitting) for my entire stay, the DM was really nice and sent me up some dry crackers to munch on as I hadn't eaten, a v. nice touch to the visit :)

26/01/08 Holiday Inn Cairns

Booked - King Oceanview Room
Allocated - King Oceanview Room

Notes - No complimentary benefits. Was welcomed as a Platinum and that I have been allocated an upgraded room. Room is not ready so I say no problem I will go across to the RSL for lunch and come back later. No sir have a seat and let me see what I can do for you. After about 5 minutes I was allocated another room and when I went to the room it was barely oceanview but had a wonderful view of the construction next door. I could have gone back and complained but I could not be bothered. You win some, you lose some.

JohnK,

I'll be there in two weeks with the same booking type so I'll post my experience.
