IHG Hotels that recognise status

CP - Auckland Room upgraded (well, if you call getting a King Bed, when you booked a Queen and upgrade :) )

HI - Wellington upgraded to executive floor.

Presently staying at the HI on Flinders.

Received a nice card from the manager and a chocolate. Take that minibar! No room upgrade. Card might be because I've stayed here before, not because of status.

Hard to say if I should be expecting to be upgraded, noting that while I am Platinum PC, I am using a PriorityPrivilege BOGOF voucher and am not really the type to make trouble. Whole place might be full anyway [munches on chocolate].

Of course I'm also staying in Melbourne for a family function (and consequently my entire family is staying here also) so I'd just as happily be upgraded to anywhere else :-)

09/02/08 Crowne Plaza Canberra
Booked - King bed superior room
Allocated - King Bed deluxe room
Notes - complimentary cheese platter on arrival and welcome letter

HI Wellington 8 Feb to 10 Feb inclusive
Award stay @ 5K points/night

As an award stay, room type is only allocated on arrival. Was booked into 1010 - went up to room but it was 2 double beds (and when cot was added for daughter, there was no room for luggage, etc).

Went back down to Front Desk and after explaining concerns, was re-allocated King Bed corner room (705). Fantasic views of the Harbour and over the NZPost flagpole (resplendent with enormous Kiwi flag fluttering in the breeze).

Welcome amenity was a travel pack of toiletries with welcome note from GM. Would have prefered a bottle of Hawkes Bay red wine, but can't complain.

Excellent service throughout stay and great location for us.

I'm there in 3 weeks for one night, so good to hear you were treated fairly well :)

HI Flinders/Melbourne - upgraded to Deluxe and chocolates as a welcome gift.

HI Burswood - upgraded to Metro Spa room, no welcome gift.

HI Flinders/Melbourne: Paid stay. The welcome card and a chokkie. No room upgrade on two separate stays in February.

CP Melbourne: Paid stay. Upgrade to Executive Floor with I think marginally better toiletries. Welcome letter, bottle of wine, fruit bowl. Also noticed big improvement in service attitude/breakfast since my last stay mid 2007.

Holiday Inn Darling Harbour

Checked in about 10pm. Hotel was pretty full, and appeared sold out on the website. Was staying on an 'Entertainment Card' rate in a "Superior Queen" room.

Was given a room that looked like a "Superior Queen" room. The view out the window was of the wall.

So don't think any recognition was given at all on this stay.

26/01/08 Holiday Inn Cairns

Booked - King Oceanview Room
Allocated - King Oceanview Room

Notes - No complimentary benefits. Was welcomed as a Platinum and that I have been allocated an upgraded room. Room is not ready so I say no problem I will go across to the RSL for lunch and come back later. No sir have a seat and let me see what I can do for you. After about 5 minutes I was allocated another room and when I went to the room it was barely oceanview but had a wonderful view of the construction next door. I could have gone back and complained but I could not be bothered. You win some, you lose some.
20/02/08 Holiday Inn Cairns

The comments from JohnK just about sum it up. Sounds like we may have even had the same room. (#518) My room was ready but was very noisy due construction work next door and renovation work internally. There was an internal note saying no drilling or hammering until after 1100 however I'm not sure which time zone they were using as it started at 0805 which was only 5 min after the Jackhammers next door.
No mention of an upgrade and no mention included in the literature provided by the hotel. The bottle shop closed about one hour early and the conscierge finished at 1000 so my first adventure into the car park was at 1030pm which didn't fill me with glee.

I would not go back until internal and external construction is completed.

That is the exact room I was allocated.

The construction did not bother me so much as the point that I booked Ocean View room and #518 should not be classed as Ocean View and being informed that I have been upgraded and in fact I was not upgraded at all.

HI Esplanade Darwin, booked loft suite, upgrade to Esplanade SPA suite which is huge, pity it was wet season and there was more water on the balcony than in the spa! Bottle of wine availabel as a gift, just needed to make a call when I wanted it.

HI Cairns - Booked standard room, upgraded to Ocean View, echo comments re other posters about noise, Ocean View is about the best you will get as there is only one suite. No gift.

HI Townsville - Booked standard Queen, upgraded to Queen Excutive Suite on top floor with fruit plate in fridge.

They must really like assigning 2 double beds for PC Plats. My booking has been changed by the hotel from "1 KING BED NONSMOKING" to "2 DOUBLE BEDS NONSMOKING". (both are regular rooms)

Will be interesting to see what I am assigned when I turn up.

Dare i say it but for some people twin doubles has its advantages.... you can make a mess on one an sleep on the other... hmm

But really i hate twin doubles, give me a king any day !

Hi all, long time listener, first time poster !!

I am a PC Plat and recently went to Wellington.

HI Wellington: Upgraded to 2nd best room, personal hand-written note from GM and a selection of luxury toiletries. Helpful and friendly staff.

IC Wellington: Had to ask about upgrade, was told that hotel was fully booked. Was not given any note or gift. Had booked a suite but room did not have a fax as described on reservation booking (done via PC website.) When I enquired, they unsuccessfully tried to install one in the room and was upgraded to a club room suite the next day (surprise surprise they suddenly weren't fully booked.) I spoke to the Duty Manager about not being recognised about being PC Plat which he replied "didn't you receive a box of chocolates?" and said that they would be in my upgraded room, which I never received.

Am off to Hong Kong this Saturday and staying at the Holiday Inn Golden Mile - have booked a King bed executive club room, will be interesting to see if I am offered an upgrade.

Cheers
Mark

It is very inconsistent

HI Lahore: upgrade to exec level
HI Taipei: exec floor
IC Delhi: Nothing, last time could not even get a (guaranteed) room because it was 65 hours, not 72
IC Mumbai: exec floor, lounge, airport transfer
IC Manila: Had to nag to get exec room, no lounge, free internet. Did not get my fruit I used to get as Gold. All this despite 7 stays in less than 12 months
IC Perth: room with a view. gee how generous. I checked in at midnight and checked out at 6 am next day

Hilton is a lot more consistent. I always get free breakfast and one level upgrade at Conrad BKK and Hilton KL/PJ

CP Melbourne: Welcome letter, bottle of wine, upgraded to suite (first time I scored a suite in this hotel!)
