As is usual, I find this out from AFF before I hear anything from <insert name of airline / hotel / etc>.

Wonder if "reward nights count" from 2013 or 2014?

The main changes, aprt from the name, appear to be:
  1. Free internet worldwide for Gold and Platinum elite from July 2013 and all members from 2014.
  2. Fast track elite status for members who stay with 2 or more brands.
  3. Reward nights will now count towards elite membership status.
  4. Nights earned beyond what is needed for Elite membership status will count toward Platinum Elite status for next year.

These look to me like significant changes, particularly 1 and 4. Of course, the devil is in the detail which is "coming soon". My reading of 3. is 2013 is the the year reward nights count because of the use of "now" but we will see.

It will be interesting to see how this affects the AMB/ RA benefits, it's conceivable that as a qualifying night they will apply, so a scenario of a $30 points break night getting an upgrade to suite or club guaranteed as well as free mini bar etc is very appealing :p:p

But would they have any good PB list these days? Especially in Oceania it is always No properties available or some hotels that no one wants to go....

Nothing wrong with the sugar shaker, or the IC Hanoi! Booked some work nights at the sugar shaker this morning, with cash back its quite conceivable they will result in a higher cash back than the cost of the points spent!

Got the teaser by email a couple hours ago. I see many of the additional benefts are about attaining/retaining elite level status and suspect the sting in the tail of this ('more details coming soon') would be more points/nights required to reach elite levels. The idea of 'club' suggested the possibility of an annual fee for membership.

Cheers skip

Given they have just stopped bonus points etc, from counting toward status, getting to elite level by points has already got harder. Not sure they will raise that bar again soon!

The PB offer worked out well for me. Was just thinking about getting around to booking a couple of nights I needed in early June at the sugar shaker when I saw markis10's heads up yesterday morning and booked them on PBs straight away. Thanks :)

Good stuff, the Indigos in Newcastle and Birmingham will be popular and not last long for those in the UK or visiting those areas soon.

Business Traveller says:

Fast track to Gold Elite status in 10 nights (instead of 15) if you stay in 3 different brands
Fast track to Platinum Elite status in 40 nights (instead of 50) if you stay in 4 different brands

IHG to offer free internet to all loyalty scheme members - Business Traveller

Intereting that in this article, us forgotten soles at the bottom of the world (Oceania) will only need to stay in 3 different brands to fast track to Platinum. This is good in that not all of us travel alot overseas and have access to the 4th brand name.

Ok I have to ask, what/where is the sugar shaker .....

Can't see one on my dining table ....

While free web browsing is good most times I just go to the business centre or club area and use the computers, I'm not so impressed with the changes, I would like to have seen greater upgrade ability and late check out's for Plat members, both have been hit and miss where I have stayed recently. Also as a general comment IHG don't seem to have many sales promo's like say the Hilton ones that are on or just finished like 40% off (I think), and the recent Accor one (40% off I think it was). Got a room in Brissy at the old King George just down from the transit centre Roma St for $77 night Inc brekky, off to see some Reds games with R Jnr, also looking for 22 June Wobblies (Wallabies) v Brit and Irish Lions.

Sorry for the O/T stuff and all the (I thinks), as am feeling flat this morning .....

Looking at HI Vanuatu for Xmas 2013/14 any thoughts, points plus pay about 10 nights .....

I like the changes, especially the free wi-fi. I also like nights beyond what is needed counted towards the next year. I agree as it is harder to get to Platinum Lounge access should be complimentary, as should late check out.

If Gold gets complimentary internet, seems like not a bad low bar if just for that benefit. Can you still buy Gold (or, for those at ICs and/or business accounts, buy Ambassador which comes with Gold)?

Useful benefit until complimentary internet for everyone becomes the new standard.
