Hot off the press from DJ...

Dear Mr munitalP

As a valued Virgin Blue and The Lounge Guest, I'd like to take this opportunity to provide you with service information and an update on the Lounge refurbishment program.

Lounge refurbishment works are now well underway:

Brisbane Lounge is operating from temporary facilities at an adjacent location on Level 1;

Melbourne Lounge is operating temporary facilities within a section of the current Lounge; and

Sydney Lounge is undergoing minor works.

While the Brisbane and Melbourne Lounges are operating at reduced capacity, we will continue to offer refreshments, bar and barista services, PCs and WIFI access.

Melbourne Lounge temporary facility will operate until Friday 8 April 2011, closing on Saturday 9 April 2011 for several weeks to allow for intensive works. Temporary Lounge facilities will not be available during closure.

Members and eligible Guests unable to access Brisbane or Melbourne temporary Lounges due to reduced capacity, or Melbourne closure can collect meal vouchers from The Lounge Reception Desk, for use at airport terminal outlets. From 9 April 2011, a Lounge Service Desk located adjacent to the current Melbourne Lounge entry will provide service information and meal vouchers for affected Members and eligible Guests.

For further details on the temporary facilities and compensation, please click here.

Our improved Lounge product offering enhanced comfort and space and a more premium experience will be unveiled in May 2011. We are also improving the aspects that you value most - ease and speed of entry, quality and variety of food and beverages.

I apologise for any inconvenience and assure you that we will do everything we can to ensure a continued enjoyable Lounge experience.

If you have any questions, please contact The Lounge team on [email protected] or 1300 287 202.

If you do not wish to receive further updates regarding The Lounge refurbishment program, please email [email protected] with 'refurbishment unsubscribe' in the subject line.

Yours sincerely

I admire them for providing meal vouchers that can be used anywhere within the airport (though not the biggest choice at MEL).

i am very eager to see the changes One DJ staff member said (quote, unquote) "It's going from a 3 star facility to a 6 star one"...

It had to be closed for the Easter weekend rush didn't it :)

From April 2011, Velocity and Partner Airline Gold Members, and Premium Economy Guests travelling with carry-on baggage only will benefit from fast-track security screening, check-in and direct entry to Sydney Lounge;

We now have a timeframe for at least part of the new lounge!

Won't by flying DJ to Brisbane next weekend then....

*waves fist at having to fly QF*

Hey guys, obviously lots on the go with the Sydney, Melb, Brisbane Lounge changes.
Will provide details on timings when they become available.

I must have dropped off the DJ mailing list, as I rarely receive their emails anymore...

This particular email i believe went to people subscribed to the Lounge list.

Too late for me - already booked! The 2 $10 vouchers will probably only get me a beer and packet of chips at Melbourne airport prices!

Oh I don't normally eat chips anyway, but I don't think $20 will be enough for 2 airport price beers!

you have a couple of options:

drink terrible beer?

add a couple of gold coins to your vouchers? (I can already see tight a$$es on here choking on their own hedge funds!)

go to the fly-bar/hudsons and have a coffee and muffin - after all alcohol dehydrates you in the air

;)

Yes, but so does coffee! ;)

I'm sure I'll find something ... maybe a juice from Boost - healthy, and same price as elsewhere in the city!

touche! i would just drink water and save up those vouchers during the closure of the lounge. when you have them all up - either have a nice party in the fly bar getting plonked - or sell them at 75% reduction to bronze & silver members who haven't had the free feed in the lounge. that way - you will have more money to fly in their up and coming J class :) ... Furthermore, through your philanthropy, others have managed to feed and drink (a basic human necessity) at a fraction of the cost

I am flying from MEL on SUnday morning. Will probably use my vouchers to buy something I can take on the plane rather than buy something on the plane.

You can't save them up. Email states that they are only valid on the day of travel, so they probably will have the date stamped onto them.

Got my two $10 vouchers this morning at MEL. They can be used within a week I was told. Was enough to buy a coffee, egg & lettuce sandwich, 1L botle of water and a muffin from Hudsons Coffee. Cost $19.30.

Dont know about you but egg sandwiches and pressurised cabins are not good combos IMHO :lol:. I suppose it could be worse, baked beans anybody?

I could get my Mother to whip up a batch of her cabbage soup with a dollop of sour cream for anyone interested ;)

To be honest, choice of sandwhich aside; that's a pretty good amount of purchased for less than $20. I would not be too bothered by that.

Will let you know later this week :)

I've never been into the old DJ lounge at Melbourne, just the small temp one while it was being updated.

Anyone flying PE as a Gold willing to pull a DYKWIA and demand $20 for PE, and $20 for being Gold? :p

Ha! You would be escorted a way by security like that woman you saw in Brisbane.

I think the attitude would be - you are a) Gold, b) can afford to fly PE...

...go and buy your own coffee you tight-ar$e ;)

Anyway... let us know how it goes when you try :)
