UGGHH. So thats still the case?

I seem to remember reading that come DEC31 all SC will reset to zero for purposes of status bonus calculations? Wouldnt it be better to line it up with your actual "membership" year??

RedRoo are u listening?

I would rather it just reverted to how it was before. No matter how many more (50% > 75%) points I get on my flights as a Gold now, at the end of this year I’ll likely be short of the 450… ad will have to start again.

The Qantas argument is that I'll make that 5000 back with the extra 25% bonus on my Qantas flights this year and in the future.

But my argument is that I’ll make it once a year and not any more, and Silver members with a lower qualifying threshold will never make it, even if they fly Qantas everywhere for 10 years, but only up to a Silver level.

And I meant loyalty bonus sorry.

On 1 december 2011 it resets to align with your member year. Any SC included in you loyalty bonus from prior to your last member year end date will be removed from the loyalty bonus total. Anything earned after the end of your year will still count in the loyalty bonus total. In following years the total will reset to zero at the end of your year.

As an example, my year ends 30 sept. I will have a loyalty bonus total of 60 SC at that point. By 30 Nov I expect the total to be 305 SC. So on 1 Dec my loyalty bonus total should change to 245.

On and from Dec 1, it will be 8,000 points you need to make up

so those 245 SC's will carry forward until 30 sept 2012 an you will need 500SC to get the 8000pts? Thats not as bad as I thought....I thought youd lose the lot.

Sure is.

So if you are 5 points short on your anniversary date you lose the lot and start again. Disgraceful.

There was another thread on this when it was announced in which someone did the numbers about when you benefit and when you lose. The results were surprising and I suggest either running the numbers yourself or searching for the thread.

Been there, done that. For my wife and kids who fly ever now and again (we just gave QF $10K out of my own pocket for flights for the 4 of us to the US), they will NEVER get the loyalty bonus even though all of there flying is with QF, because they just don't fly enough to get 450 SCs in a year. So much for rewarding loyalty.

I agree. It is disgraceful. Even more so when NZ let you "bank" excess SC's from a given year to cover you in future years where you may fall short. What a wonderful concept!

Medhead, so just to clarify...

My year ends on 31 May, and I have earnt 390 SC since June of this year, which would go toward the loyalty bonus. Am I correct in assuming that they will carry over until 31 May 2012 and that if I get 60 SC before 1 Dec, ill get the 5000pt bonus, but if not, after this date ill need to get 110SC for the 8000 points?

nevermind...... I Just read the link you posted and answered my own question. Thanks.

Yep. I also wanted to mention I'm glad this came up as I had a cunning plan to double dip on the change over in December. But when looking for the link I had a good read and realised my cunning plan was so cunning it wouldn't work at all. :( But saved me wasting some points on J flying. Thanks. :D

There are advantages fo me in ensuring I get a loyalty bonus sometime in November (given my anniversary at the end of October)

I think the most advantage would be to get it on your last flight in October. And, of course, before 1 December. Unfortunately, my next loyalty bonus will happen 60 SC before my anniversary. So those 60SC are lost in terms of loyalty bonus. But those 60SC are only worth 667 points under the old system, better to let them go I think rather than pick up another bonus before the end of December.

Yes, but any surplus would be lost, although that may only be a handful of sc.
