... and I'll wear what ever lanyard I pull out of the cupboard.

I'll wear my discreet black lanyard from AFF# whatever from HBA, assuming it survives my Caribbean cruise later this month :p Unless we get special new AFF ones for our SA cruise :)

PS Happy 12th AFF birthday to me for today :p

Possible AFF Cruise Options

The Older Dame does not 'do' lanyards but now that retirement has occurred she may associate it with cruising now rather than work.

Anna, I understand passengers can check in separately but like you I wouldn't like to risk it.

I do have a nice black sparkly lanyard now that will make its appearance in April and again in July. Hopefully it survives.

And yes. We need to change the title to be 'inaugural AFF cruise'. Or similar.

Shall we also wear Mardi Gras beads and wave like the blazes to the port cam at Outer Harbour on sail out?

I was thinking "AFF Maiden Voyage" but on Reflection (ha, see what I did there?) your suggestion might be more accurate for casual thread browsers.

I suppose streamers on sailaway are illegal these days :(

Actually, dare I say it, I do have a lanyard from Princess and I did use it last cruise (Gulp). In my defence it is a black discreet number and I wore it round my neck but tucked into the 'over the shoulder boulder holder' :)

Oh dear, Pushka, you sound a bit like some of those meet and greet organising posters on Cruise Critic. No beads or leis or special T-shirts for me

I have seen some truly awful group 'outfits' on cruises and just know we are far too mature for anything even slightly resembling them.

There was a bunch of weird T shirts last cruise and one family had their names on theirs.

Mention Mardi Gras beads and I'm gone!
I'm not even going on any excursions unless they organise a nice lunch in Port Lincoln. Maybe a nice meal at the pub. Kangaroo Island has been well and truly explored by us.

What, so they could remember who they were :)

Doesn't Port Lincoln have a really good seafood place (might be the pub?). Seem to remember it being mentioned on various TRs.

You do realise this is AFF, right? ;)

I was thinking of packing my 'formal' fluoros.

Edit: Title changed

Thanks, now I have had a look at the thread and that date sound good.

Can you want to update the first page with some pricings and where to book.

Bundy Bear - prices change all the time and there are so many variations according to cabin location.

Best just check princess.com unless you only go through a TA.

JT - There are no formal nights but I'm guessing that isn't going to stop you wearing your finest....fluoro?

I think I also need to point out that this cruise won't exactly showcase cruises on the Med and Caribbean. Likely to be a bit of a boozy bunch - hey, that resembles us!

People are booking at whatever site they prefer - it's not organised as a group booking AFIK as you need to specify a number of cabins etc to qualify and this is more ad hoc - if you want to go, you'll book. I went through Princess, there was a pricing from QF earlier in the thread and someone asked about OzCruising. Any of the reputable online TAs will handle your booking.

Surprisingly Pushka, there was a formal night on the NZ 4 nighter in December, even though it specified none on the cruise documentation. Perhaps we can set one ourselves if there isn't - nothing like a few sparkly gowns to jazz up things :)
And no JT, hi-viz does not qualify as formal wear :)

Really miffed that I have booked our "family" 4 day cruise out of Auckland the same dates as this cruise.

Not sure what I'll be doing at the time. I suspect will need to take wife and daughter back to Thailand around this time.

Do they have pokies on board?

Would love to see you (and the family) on board and yes, they do have pokies in the casino (assuming it will be operational).

And a child minding crèche I think?

Looking Gold for this, being a year out I can plan days off work.

Just checking a few things.

*sad face* I have slept in an interior cabin before and won't be doing it again. So at current pricing $879 x 2 = $1758. Ugh.

What was wrong with an interior cabin.

Many people like being able to see outside the cabin. My husband and I love standing on our balcony in all sorts of weather.

Others, like my daughter, like an inside cabin as it is a) cheaper and b) very dark for sleeping. An inside cabin is often the only affordable choice for solo cruisers. OTOH, couples can do two inside cabin cruises for the same price as one oceanview or balcony cabin cruise.

Lots of people like inside cabins - a) they are cheaper most of the time b) people say they are only in them to sleep so it doesn't matter if there is no view c) being so dark people tend to sleep really well.
Lots of people don't like insides a) they find them claustrophobic without a window to at least get some light b) for more than one person they can be a bit squeezy.

I have booked them a couple of times (once I had an upgrade to a balcony so was happy). For anything over a few days they are not my preferred category as I like to spend some time in the cabin usually and find a feeling of being shut off in one. For a few days though and if the price difference was worth it I have no problems with an inside. Just check locations - generally better to have cabins above and below if possible to minimise noise from outside, bow can be rougher if waves are big, far aft can also have a bit of movement but I like being there. Mid and low is the general advice for those who may suffer sea sickness.
