Indonesian Visa Discussion (Including Bali)

No. Other than what’s built into the airfare?
That used to be the killer at the end of the trip. I think it was 200,000 IDR pp and for a family to have that cash held back was a pain.

I’m flying from Sydney to Singapore via Jakarta airport (CGK). My layover is 3 hours and I’ll have to change terminals, does anyone know if I need a transit visa?

If I do need one, how do I go about it? Do I need to do it in advance or is it an 'on-arrival' visa? I've heard that visa on arrival can be a bit risky / that it's safer to get a visa in advance, does anyone have any experience with this?

I've spent ages researching online but can't seem to find a conclusive answer!

Thank you

OP, if you’re flying International to International you shouldn’t be changing terminals. CGK terminal 3 is the international terminal so your inbound flight from SYD should arrive there and the departure to SIN should also be there.

I take that back, it appears from about May this year that part of terminal 2 (terminal 2F) has been dedicated to international flights as well, mostly LCCs such as Jetstar Asia, Air Asia and even Scoot.

You definitely need a visa to enter Indonesia, which you will have to do to transit terminals. As per the other threads you can get one on arrival or you can organise it beforehand and there is no difference in cost. Is your travel all one booking or split between two separate bookings? If the latter, definitely better to have it done beforehand as it is one less chance of delay when arriving into CGK terminal 3. It has taken me anything between 5 minutes to an hour to get through passport control at T3. If you have checked luggage that is usually the longest hold up, with a wait of 40 minutes about normal.

Once you get bags, go through customs and show them the QR code for your declaration. You can do it online up to two days before arrival: Official Website Direktorat Jenderal Bea dan Cukai

Then go up to the inter-terminal shuttle train and get to terminal 2F (you said you have to change terminals so I assume you’re going T3-T2F?)

OK folks, just starting this, very nervous. So which of these should I choose for a visit of a week and I want my visa approved before arrival.

I see the last option is 1/4 the price of the others - but why would I be applying here for a visa "on arrival"?

Go for Visa on arrival for 30 days - you are essentially pre-paying for the visa on arrival which saves you queueing up on entry - smooths the entry no end when busy. Also you really should complete the online customs declaration 3 or less days before arrival - again save lots on time on arrival (Official Website Direktorat Jenderal Bea dan Cukai)

We just returned on Saturday from 2.5 weeks in Indonesia - very smooth entry - we also paid for "Bali Express Service" where someone meets you as you disembark and walks you though immigration and customs - total waste of about $100 - with your e-VOA and Customs Declaration pre-completed - it's not necessary.

It may be worth pre-booking a car/taxi service to transport you from the airport to your hotel - but there are plenty of taxi service desks at the airport - the quality and price of taxis / car services vary.

We did both the online VOA and online customs form and it made the whole entry process so easy and fast. Thanks for help/tips on here on the forms.

Thanks (and to others). So I'm getting the lingo. What they are calling a 'Visa on Arrival' (third choice) is what we are calling E-Visa on Arrival (E-VoA). Which, as you say, is essentially a pre-payment. Yes, have the customs declaration bookmarked from up this thread. Am being picked up courtesy Luxury Escapes.

I see also that their passport photo requirement is unlike any of the three versions I currently have for other countries

To add to my confusion, check out what Intrepid says. VOA "Must obtain visa on arrival at the airport." Then they happily talk about VOA/e-VOA.

You are making it too complicated. Stop reading anything but this thread. 😂. If you are having troubles with the photo use a photo for visa online photo production. eg visafoto.com, take a selfie, load it up and pay a very small fee. We also used them for Egypt, Saudi Arabia and India visas.

Is there any need to print out a hard copy of the e-visa?
We do because we always do. But don't think we showed that. We did need to show the QR code for the customs one though.

No need to pay anyone for the photo. A selfie in front of a plain background is fine.

As long as dimensions etc are ok. Which was what rooflyer was having problems with.

Granted (I looked at Intrepid before I got answers here :) ).

But have some sympathy for me. Re visafoto - this is what they have for Indonesia

This is what the Indonesian visa application specifies

Red background - bizarre. 50% chest - different; what are they looking for - dribbled dining? All my current pics are like their X at bottom left, either square or rectangular.

Anyway, just puttering along now, making conversation. :) She'll be right.

😂. I looked at the photos on our visas. This was taken from one of them. White background. Head and top of shoulders. Cheesy smile 🤣.
