Indonesian Visa Discussion (Including Bali)

It’s worked ok until now. I suspect their eGates departing CGK have had a snafu on our last departure…
Seems to have been fixed for me and I have a new eVOA - flying tomorrow!

I tried calling the Consulate here in Sydney yesterday and couldn’t even get through and I suspect driving down to Maroubra (not far away) would have been a waste of time.

So I emailed the Indonesia immigration [email protected] with a screen shot and details of my last outbound flight and that may have worked…🤷‍♂️.

I tried that email too. Nada.

I can see that they’ve cancelled the last “Stay permit”, so that seems to have unblocked it.

SYD+1 also emailed but still locked. Weirdly, the system is showing a stay permit active from before the last transit! ie left and have past through Indonesia subsequently…

It’s still a sh$t system.

Although, being able to use eGates in and out is handy….

SYD+1 emailed again this morning and the old stay permit was closed around noon. So someone must actually be processing the requests!

So we now both have eVOAs for tomorrow’s arrival…

Oi DFAT, get with Kemlu and remind them we’re supposed to have free VOA or visa waivers for Aus citizens travelling to Indonesia by now… 😑

Preferably before I fly home via CGK in a few weeks!

$150 or jail. I’m on the fence…
Dang, another reminder to apply for an eVOA before.

Are there smart gates at Jakarta airport?
Yes. As far as the eye can see!

Thanks. Was hoping to avoid that line. Have to say not looking forward to the eVOA process but am sure my AFF advice will guide me through!!

The eVOA is clunky but not difficult. Two key tips:
1. Hotel - enter postcode first. That’ll fill in a bunch of otherwise meaningless stuff.

2. Scroll down when you think you’re at the payment page because you are and they’ve placed the payment button out of sight….

Edit:
3. Photo can just be a decent selfie (do not need a passport style photo).

oh, the really clunky bit is loading a photo image AND a pdf copy of your PP…🤷‍♂️

Just did another eVOA application. They do seem to get easier. I now just recycle the same selfie, PP photo and PDF (all saved on my iPad)….

Especially the PDF. I recall it was a bit fiddly getting the file size small enough….

I DID IT!!!
Got tripped up on hotel name - would not accept the address, even though I had prefilled in post code as per @SYD excellent advice. Just mucked around with it and eventually worked.
Also needed to go and download e-ticket for return journey but did not time out so got through on the first attempt.

Need a good lie down now. In comparison, did the UK one straight after and took 1/4 of the time,

Plenty i think they've even expanded it since I was there 9 months ago... The evoa document even specifically says eligible for egate entry now... e-gate takes no time at all and you will be spending the most time waiting for luggage, but no manual chomp in passport if you are into those

We are going to Bali for the first time in July this year.

This thread has been useful, but now I'm a bit confused over the last few posts - do we still need a visa to go to Bali, and do we need to pay the tourist tax?

Sorry for the stupid questions!

Yes and Yes
But they’re quite seperate things.

Apply for the eVOA online before you travel and use eGates for arrival / departure (waltzing past the peeps trying to pay for their visa - literally on arrival). It’s the same visa regardless of flying to Bali or Jakarta.

The Bali “Tax” (money grab) is via a seperate website / app and unique to visiting Bali.

Thanks - and also the 3rd thing to do beforehand is the customs declaration as well.

So do 3 things online before the trip on 3 separate websites:

1. eVisa
2. Tourist tax
3. Customs declaration
