I entered the ING card details via the PayPal window ["use any credit card"] offered by PayPal if you don't have an account with them, and/or don't want to use them on this occasion.
I may have exaggerated the saving as I didn't note exactly what PayPal would have charged in A$, but it was certainly more than 2.5% - approx. A$24+ rather than the A$22+ shown on ING.
That's great to know. I might load up my card the month before travel.

Plus the 5 purchases is a but of a pain in the butt

I used a US hotel ATM a week back. The cost was refunded, and the exchange rate was also ok.

Currently in Argentina and this change is a Godsend. ATM fees upwards of $10 and low max withdrawal limits make accessing cash nasty work. ING recrediting quickly and spot FOREX rates. It will be great next time in the US.

Normally, my NAB Private banking cards are fine - no NAB os fees - only pay ATM fees.

The 5 transactions is a no brainer. $1 car park fee a couple of times.... $2 milk at Coles....

Just for the clarity of others in the future, you don’t “load up” the ING Orange Everyday card like a travel card. It’s just a conventional Australia transaction account that you deposit AUD funds into. It comes it a debit card which can be used in ATMs.

If you meet the requirements (deposit $1000/mth to your account, and soon, also make 5 purchase transactions a month) the International ATM fee rebate applies.

Does this work in Thailand?

I read something about the ATM fee being added to the withdrawal amount, instead of appearing as a separate fee.

Really great result this for the Orange Everyday card. Free overseas ATM fees.
It was the best transaction card on the market before, now it is even better. Genius.

It is hard not to laugh at the math failures who still chase frequent flyer points using credit cards.

What's wrong for those that chase points with credit cards?

Why can't you do both?

Because chasing points means that you would (typically) purchase significantly more expensive fares than what are available on other airlines; thus making the points acquired a net cost.
And chasing those points via CC purchases means that you have not done the math comparing the cost/benefits of non-FF point earning credit cards.

It is pretty simple really.

Obviously none of the above applies if your company re-imburses your travel (and cc) costs because then you don't really care about the cost - you only care about the benefits.

Hmm

Hmm so recently I booked a flight from melb to Bkk return via jetstar for $299 using my 3 points per dollar credit card. And got 15% off the full flight price of $350 odd
Am I doing it wrong?

Yes.

ING is actually better as I believe it gives you a fee rebate where a fee is charged.

Citi OTOH does not rebate you the fee where it is charged, but does not charge any additional fees, where one is not charged.

But the spend requirements on ING are annoying though.

Correct, ING is better in a one-on-one comparison.

But having had a card eaten by an overseas ATM recently, I definitely prefer to carry both.

The spend requirement isn't in effect yet, but true.

If I had this card, I'd just make a note at the start of each month in my Outlook Calander to go on-line to my water supplier and use the card to pay off $2 five times in separate transactions. Alternatively, go to the self service checkout at a supermarket, and pay for the five smallest items separately.
Regards,
Renato

A reminder that the 5 card purchases requirement is now in effect from this month for the Global ATM Rebate Offer, International Transaction Fee Waiver Offer and Savings Maximiser bonus interest. (In addition to the $1,000 monthly deposit requirement of course.)

(effective from 1 March 2018) also make at least 5 card purchases using your ING debit or credit card (excluding ATM withdrawals, balance enquiries, cash advances and EFTPOS cash out only transactions).

Card purchases includes in store credit or EFTPOS purchases, online purchases, regular card payments, payWave, Apple Pay, and Android Pay transactions made with an Orange Everyday Visa card, Orange One or Orange One Platinum Visa card or Nil Interest Visa card provided with an eligible ING home loan. Card purchases made in store or online this current calendar month which settle next calendar month do not count towards the 5 card purchases needed this current calendar month.
