Have been WP for about 5 years now and about to requalify again (Oct 16 anniversary) I always spend my points (just spent 370K on SYD-LAX return). Try not to hoard as don't want a repeat like Ansett. I have never been approached but I wonder if they internally categorise you on the way that you earn your points. i.e. either via family pooling, credit card spend, actual BIS flights etc....I would have thought that would be a good bit of info to have for marketing purposes.
 
... so that their SO can share in their "platinumness".... (yes i made up a word)... a focus would be that their partner gets treated as well they do.

Not discounting the idea, but wouldn't Virgin simply suggest they are doing this by allowing family pooling to get your SO "up to grade" even if they don't fly that much?
