how much are people paying for their plans out of interest sake?

What would be the 'average' download for the month - silly question I know!!!

Totally varies, especially on how often you stray out of WiFi areas and what you do with it when you're away. You can only really figure it out for yourself by trying it out for a month. FWIW, I don't think I rack up more than 250MB (similar to what I use on my phone) a month with normal use, mainly because I'm rarely out of WiFi range and generally only use it for email and browsing (videos etc not so much).

I find the best way to get data is by snapping up a 12 month $150/12GB VHA prepaid recharge whenever there's a 20% off sale - like right now, from Harvey Norman. Works out to $10/month for effectively 1GB/month, but spread out across the whole year with room to spare. On last year's recharge (combined mobile broadband, then cut down for iPad later in the year) I don't think I used more than 1GB on the iPad itself, so definitely lots of headroom.

Compared to the cheapest monthly plans available (~$10/month/250MB) it's pretty good - though TPG do seem to have some decent offers too (especially if you have an ADSL account with them), but that's with Optus and all the attendant network issues.

YMMV of course. :)

I have iPhones on 3 so I got a post paid plan that is $15/month for 2Gig of data (1gig of it is "bonus") and I never hit my limit.

I bought an iPad with 3G and wireless - it's great if you are out and about but I've just realised that it's not great if you are wanting to do some editing work on the go.

I only use a few hundred MBs. It's hard to use a lot of data unless you're downloading or using a lot of media.

I'm on Telstra which is the best network for my usage patterns and locations. The only problem is the credit is building up faster than I can use it:

Re editing work on the go...

I think there’s an app for that ;)

Which one though? Pages/Numbers are a bit woeful and docs to go is not really great for editing.

I haven't found an app yet that would allow me to review word documents and track changes/add review comments - any suggestions? This is the key limitation for me at the moment. When I am interstate the key thing I am doing (aside form email) is reviewing reports and documents from the team so I wish I could get a decent reviewing tool...

I’d heard pages/numbers was useless. I guess the thing to hope for is Microsoft actively porting Office 2011 to the iPad, as their new Office runs great.

Perhaps you need a MBA ;)

Nope - I just need better apps ;)

If I had an air it wouldnt give much benefit over my company supplied laptop (which I only use in the office now).

I have VLC (and Oplayer HD) btu still use the built in player. Using the iTunes beta in Vuze I flick files into iTunes via that. The only issue is converted size - sometimes double in size

Not a major concern day to day but on a longer trip I will run out of space...

Works like a charm on Xvid (350MB) and h.264/mkv files - TV shows only. It also means all TV shows are available through Apple TV as well.

I’m holding off on my TV purchase until our home network is upgraded to ’n’ and I can buy it from D¡ck Smith or Big W, as I’ve no CC :(

We moved to a Airport extreme n a little while ago (and have an n iMac) and it is seamless between the two.

Occasionally though the apple TV cant find my home computer - havent resolved that as yet...

New one or old one?

We’re still running an Airport Extreme 'g' here, and it’s starting to fail occasionally, hence the impending upgrade. I’ve found with my Airport Express running on 'g' I have issues streaming sometimes, with audio interruptions, so hoping a whole ’n' network will help. 5GHz band might also be a bonus.

I had the old dome shaped one and moved to a new one (shaped like the old apple TV). I get frequent drop outs from my modem (especially when 4 torrents start at once) but little or no drop outs from my router now.

iPAD Ver 2.0 looks like a Jan release, moles have spotted the commercial being shot for it:

Apple Caught Shooting Commercial For New iPad - Channel News

According to 9to5Mac insider the props for the commercial were all current model iPads which they said would be edited out and replaced with new models, suggesting the design would be the same size with most of the changes being under the bonnet.

9to5 Mac suggested that the new model will include a new camera along with performance upgrades such as a dual-core ARM Cortex-A9 processor and possibly a newer display screen.
