Is Aussie Aussie Aussie an Appropriate Call in 2024?

It ensures we know who the bogans are, if, somehow or other, we’ve failed to notice them. After the flight they probably immediately went to the nearest supermarket, so that they could leave a few trollies in the car park.
Bali flights must be awesome, what with all passengers chanting in unison!

I'd like to see them try that in Sydney.
The nearest supermarket to SYD T2/3 is a Woolworths CFC. Online only. If they went there to dump trollies in the car park, they'd get flattened by a truck.

Is a fulfillment centre for online orders technically "a supermarket"?
Wow this is getting very technical!

Passengers calling out on a plane is never appropriate. However, I once took part in applause landing in Kuala Lumpur after Air Asia had diverted our PUS-KUL flight to JHB to sit on the ground for 2 hours while waiting for a storm to end, and some Korean passengers were highly agitated they were trapped on the plane.
Regarding Australian patriotism, I remember the audience groaning when someone (Kurt?) congratulated us on our national day at the Violent Femmes concert at Fishermans Wharf on 26/1/92, where Nirvana was the support act.

I don’t think this has anything to do with ‘appropriateness’? There aren’t any ‘rules’ per se.

I’m not sure there is any harm caused by people getting excited. The only time it would be inappropriate would be something offensive or dangerous.

Was the passenger homesick and relieved to be arriving home?
Had the passenger just had a dream holiday and was euphoric about their time away?

We "frequent flyers" have the luxury of knowing a little about aeroplane etiquette and how things are normaly done. Being able to fly as often as we do is a privilege.

We need to be careful to not be condescending/patronising/arrogant/smug/contemptuous of those who do not have the privileges or experience that we do.

Yes, it's not something that's normally "the done thing" on a flight. But the caller wasn't being offensive, wasn't putting anyone in danger, and wasn't inconveniencing or waking up anyone. Give them a break.

Flying home yesterday DOH-ADL on QR, and when we landed, someone called out, "Welcome to Australia, Aussie, Aussie, Aussie." Was this appropriate in 2024, or was it ever?
I was not impressed, but that could have resulted from 12 hours in an A350 Y seat tighter than the Y seat on the previous QR flight on an A320.
Are you certain you weren't on JQ from DPS?

I've never heard any such behaviours on flights from Bali and I've done many including on JQ. On the other hand a flight back from Brisbane was rather charming. Not.

I get "Welcomed"... the FA literally says "Welcome to (name nobody knows)" etc.
Then they acknowledge elders etc. as if they built the Airport.

I have literally had tourists asking me why we landed in (name nobody knows) I wanted to go to Brisbane...
The PAs go something along the lines of Welcome to xx_. [insert airline name] would like to acknowledge the traditional custodians etc etc.

Given ALL the main AU airlines do this along with "hello everyone" instead of ladies/gentlemen.. I say this is a case of get with the times or live in the past!

Yeah I'll admit to finding it cringeworthy, but I wouldn't say "inappropriate", if by that you mean offensifve.

It's not designed to cause offence, but more used as a form of barracking, similar to Forza Italia I guess. I imagine quite a lot of other countries have something similar eg: "Slava Ukraini" and so on.

Question: Do Italians cringe when they hear other italians calling out "Forza Italia!"? I dont know the answer to that.

Its better then the Welcome to Country they are shoving down our throats
