Is BA really that bad?

I was in 9D, but moved forward to 8E and F when I had someone join the trip. What's the emergency rows like on the 321?

so I guess I'll have to do a trip report!

Best you can hope for is an op-up if they have to roll the cabins due to overbooking. I benefited from this in BKK by scoring an elusive double upgrade. First to Y+ at check-in then to J at the gate.

Are you flying all in J?

If you're asking me.....

:lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:

No.

The company I work for has only just at the start of this year authorised us to travel Y+ if the flight is longer than 8 hours. Prior to that it was all Y....

So the SYD-SIN-LHR return flights are Y+, the others Y....

I find the service from FA's to be better on BA than QF. BA are more formal and well spoken, QF are too casual for my liking. I don't really take to being asked "You want coffee?".

The hard product on QF is superior, and if you get the 380 it is far superior, even in Y. I flew the new 77W Y product HKG-LHR, and the seats are rather firm, with headrests that only slide up and down. The 77W IFE was more responsive than QF. But since you're flying a 744, the IFE if quite old in Y. The cabin was very tired looking, and not terribly clean.

One of BA's best assets is T5 at LHR, which if you via SIN or BKK you don't get to experience.

This is the exact opposite of my experience.

Me too - flight attendents on BA have always been horribly rude when I've flown with them, and are not interested in helping or providing service.

On one flight I was wedged into a window seat by a very large person on the aisle who was sleeping and could not be woken up. Was very, very thirsty so I pressed the call button to try to get a drink of water (something I wouldn't normally do, only couldn't get out to forage for myself) and no-one came. Turned it off, turned it on again - same result. Ended up sitting there horribly thirsty for a couple of hours, with no luck getting any attention.

The food is ordinary too. I'd go out of my way to avoid flying with them, to the point of flying on a different day or even to a different airport.

so I guess I'll have to do a trip report!

You must be heading to Automechanika then - I am doing the BA16/12 route on the 8th for the same purposes.

It has been a while since I have been on BA, mostly QF and CX but I do remember them being ok - it all depends on the crew you get on the day and a bit on the load. Wouldn't say I have had more bad experiences than others and I used to fly a lot when based in the UK

We'll have to report back...

I like BA. Never had an issue with them and I have had quite a few flights in both premium economy and economy. My favourite flights are the 747s and the LHR-ATH flights. I have been able to get bulkhead and/or exit row on the 747s and in premium economy without any hassles.

Oh and if you (me) are lucky enough to get a flight with a young(ish) sexy flight attendant then all the better. Love that accent. Know what I mean....

I personally only had bad experiences in both Y and J long haul but can't complain about inner-European J usually. Most of my colleagues here at work will do anything to end up on QF metal rather than BA and I've heard some really bad stories about service and food quality in BA J.

Then again, my partner just flew from Tokyo to LHR and back in Y and told me it had been a fairly new plane (some 777), great food, decent entertainment and friendly service. I can't really verify this and know that he never asks for much on his flights but it seems that there can be quite positive experiences for some even on BA

Having only flown J/F on BA, I would rate the service/food/staff attitude fairly poorly. If enjoying the flight is not a requirement for your trip then BA would be fine...

I have flown J and F this year with BA and agree on the food/service/staff. Now, and this will shock some, I would still take 64A on the BA 747 over J on the QF A380. The feeling of privacy, with ease of access to the aisle, makes it feel like private suite. (I know I'm insane..but there it is, I feel better for admitting it....again!!)

Never tried BA myself :) Might try it one day. Why is it that on BA in J or F the service seems poor? Do the FA's not get paid enough? :)

Well I'm trying BA J for the first time in that very seat. This is my first long haul (4+ hours) flight in J. I was hoping it would be a good experience. I have done QF A380 in PE before.

I love 64A and had a very good FA on my last trip in CW who kept the champagne flowing and was very attentive (SWMBO in 64B was not impressed with the service though as I was getting the attention and not she... :D)

We had 63JK, a good choice for couples as it's possible to exit 63K between seat & window.
UD CW service very good & with Tattinger, but no IFE for sector 2. MrsB got a nice gift with the compensation (BA vouchers).
