My last trip O/S was Utah and surrounds in the USA in March 2020, which was cut off by early departure due to a well publicized bug. Like many of us, international was gone but I am still finding hard to get enthused to re-engage given that the ongoing virus, and the issue in Ukraine is causing caution. Am I the only one?

Im reluctantly getting back on the horse. I would have liked at least another 12-18 months before travel but wife was home sick and daughter still only in prep so this is the right opportunity.

Fingers crossed.

I was meant to do much of your trip a few weeks after you (as the boarders were closed). Your trip report sat on my iPad for 2years and we are currently at Bryce Canyon. Yes Covid and war has made things more complicated, but out on the road we feel ‘safe as houses’. (We still where mask in indoors)

Why don’t you look at options that excite you and that can be done with lower risk?

The regulations and uncertainty are making us cautious. We are looking at South America, so no issues with Ukraine.

I loved Bryce Canyon. Enjoy

Nope. Not just you. We started talking about either a Scotland road trip or somewhere towards Europe (hubby would like to return to Iceland) next year but now Im thinking building a new home in todays market would be a better idea.

Nope it’s you - I have already been to Germany recently albeit only 4nts there but getting back to the whole travelling package was MAGNIFICENT

And we are both off to Europe for a month May 28 to Jun 25 and it cannot come quick enough - 2.5yrs trapped in the land down under just too much48EA3E86-8E90-4C61-AC29-D9B587BBFD29.jpeg

I have been to the UK/Europe twice and back since the borders opened in November.
Going to the USA and Europe in June.

I really, really missed it all and didn’t realize how much until I started traveling again.
I won’t get back those 2 years but I have no intentions of putting my life on hold anymore.

Wow! The thought of building a home fills me with absolute dread. I would rather travel anywhere than do that.

The better half has “noped” out of work meetings in Germany next month, her reasons are the ongoing presence of Unspecified Virus Of Unknown Origin (insert picture of Winnie The Pooh here) along with war, but I suspect those are sort-of ‘excuses’ being completely informed by her dislike of travel (on top of which she’s no longer got any status so she goes from occasional 1st class upgrades to not even having lounge access).

A workmate of hers was visiting Sydney (from NYC) a few weeks back, he felt he’d arrived at the perfect time; everything he wanted to see & everywhere he wanted to eat was open, but crowds were still very light. They probably won’t be as light elsewhere, but I still think it’s going to be relevant. :)

Scr77- we are just planning our trip to Utah for next April- Is it as amazing as the pictures? Love any tips when you get back

My first OS travel post covid was in Dec 2021 to Europe and it was a bit eerie having to fill heaps of paperwork and getting PCR tested on the day on departure not fully knowing if I can get on the plane until the last minute.

My second OS travel was last week, also to Europe (I’m still abroad) and the experience is completely different. The only document I was required to show is vaccination certificate, no covid test required. In the EU masks are optional, most people choose not to wear. Seems the Asia pacific region still uptight with covid while life is pretty much back to normal in other parts of the world.

We plan to visit Thailand end of May and I’ve booked heaps of other travel for the rest of the year.

Definitely no hesitations to travel again. We just got back from Singapore this morning and it was great to be back on the horse. France/Italy in 5 weeks and then a couple of others before the end of the year. Making up for lost time!

I have still got some unfinished travel locations in Utah & Arizona, hope you are enjoying the trip, it is a magic part of the world.

Flew to USA around Oz day in January.

Booked to SIN/KUL in separate journeys in each of the next three months, USA again in November and looking to book something for September.

I certainly do understand why some people are hesitant to travel overseas right now. I must admit, I was also a little nervous before leaving Australia for Europe in early March. But ever since I arrived in Europe, I have had absolutely no regrets.

The world is definitely not as scary out there as you might imagine if you haven't left Australia for more than two years. Life goes on in other countries (I'm currently in the Netherlands where you wouldn't even know there was a pandemic recently!) and it has been really fun to be travelling again!

I have no issues in travelling and now regret listening to MrsM 8-9 months ago when I cancelled our Apr 22 UK/EU trip, we should be in the UK/ EU now for the school holidays. I have never pretended to like flying it is a way to get from point A-B and our next family trip I am not giving up on is US/CA/US in Sep 22 school holidays. As for the work trips I am not interested in these and there are more than enough staff who are more than capable/ happy to travel (as a delegate) and reconnect with family they have not seen in the past couple of years.

At outset, important that everyone decides their own risk profile and only you can work out what is acceptable or not. Having said that, my last pre-COVID trip was to Utah and in late Feb this year did Utah again, followed by British Colombia and boy, was it good to get back traveling again. We had numerous PCR/rapid antigen tests to take getting in and leaving places and things were quite stringent in Canada (less so than Utah where most locals were pretty Laisser-faire about COVID). We took sensible precautions re mask wearing, but otherwise did not really restrict our activities and had a ball. Flying was just fine - internal and internationally - although mask wearing was a bit of a pain over 14 hours. About to head off again in a weeks time for another overseas trip and with relaxing of many testing requirements in the two countries we will visit. Many people we knew expressed surprise that we would be comfortable traveling but with COVID still all over Melbourne, did not and do not feel at any greater risk overseas than staying at home. So definitely one of the people that are delighted to be back in the air again!
