Is it possible to add a LH flight to SQ return trip?

I have a return trip with SQ with iteniary being SYD -> FRA, BRU -> SYD. I am wondering if I can now retrospectively add a 3rd flight to the onwards journey from FRA -> AMS with LH (star partner of SQ, which is why I'm hoping it's somehow possible), just so I can avoid doing self-transfer of luggage at the airport and save some time.

Can I book it separately and ask SQ in SYD to check the luggage all the way through to AMS? Or in SIN? Or will they not be able to do that?

They will definitely be able check your luggage all the way through to Amsterdam it even if your flight to Amsterdam is on a separate booking -- I have done this before myself. They will need to place the appropriate bag tags on the luggage when you check it in, in Sydney, so don't wait until you're in Singapore to ask.

………….. possibly maybe - SQ/KF call ctr your only chance - asking here will give you opinions which may or may not be accurate - jump on the blower SCM 👍

They are definitely able to, but the question is whether they are going to. Airlines in the past few years have intentionally started making this process a pain so as the disincentivise people maxing and matching flights (they match prefer to be your one-stop shop so as to monetise whatever data they have on you and your preferences/purchase attitude).

This suggestion is your best course of action; call and ask...

They’ll almost certainly do this for you. SQ build their reputation and that of SIN airport with easy transfers and transits etc.
They interline luggage with even QF etc on seperate bookings.

Last year at SIN they through checked me on a separate booking through to BRU via FRA with BRU-FRA on an independent booking. Even issued the boarding passes.

Similar experience late last year. SQ flight HKT-SIN (in whY) and seperate booking QF SIN-SYD J. Bags checked through and SQ and QF BPs issued.

So if they can’t/won’t add the tag flight, there’s a good chance you can achieve a similar result on seperate tickets. With the obvious exception of not being protected due to a delay/misconnect.

I’ve not looked recently but LH and many mainland Euro legacy carriers were still charging full flex fares for one ways, so it could be cheaper to add to an existing ticket. Alternatively, a seperate award ticket (if available) might be a good use of points - if you have them.

How can I add it to an existing ticket?

No idea specifically, but wasn’t that your original question?

A reward flight, you’d contact SQ (or whichever FF program it was booked through). Similarly, for a revenue flight, you’d contact SQ or the TA it was booked through. In both cases, there would most likely be a change fee that needs to be considered.
