Is Platinum the Holy Grail?

Is AIR a recent addition to WP?
Never had it in the 3 years I was WP - maybe there is a ladder for WP members too.

  • WP F Class
  • WP J Class
  • WP Y Class
I'll just have to wait until I re-earn to find out. . . . . . .:p

I have never received "Air" - been WP PG for the last four years.

I guess it because more than ½ my SC's come from non QF operated flights.

I really suspect this/something similar is the reason. I gained WP a few years back, mainly by making a few trips to Europe on QF J class. When AIR was first published, they sent it to me regularly and during that time I continued to use QF as my main airline to Europe. Soon as i jumped on a cheaper finnair flight to get over there, the AIRs stopped. Went over to UK a few months ago in QF J and was 'rewarded' again with AIR shortly thereafter. All the time i was travelling QF domestically, generally in Y but often on fully flex tickets.

So I reckon international J is the trigger.

For the record I don't really rate it as a read, but I can imagine QF makes a fair bit from the advertising.

Hi,

I have never travelled paid Int J and have had 4 Air mags so this can not be the case.

I am guessing that it is maybe rotated through WP's of lesser standing.

That makes sense to me. Mrs Rezzadogs is also a WP. She regularly flew J to LHR and received copies of Air, but they have dried up since her company policy shifted her to catching EY instead of QF.

In terms of different flying, Most of my SC's are collected on Dom whY and OW J class, but hers are QF int J. She receives significantly more OpUp's than me on our regular red-e's to MEL for the weekend.

I received a response back from QF the saem day I sent it via email. Apparantly QF do nto control who receives the magazine, their instruction si they must provide all WP listing to ACP and they distribute the maganzine as per below reply:

Thank you again for your enquiry regarding the AIR magazine. I was pleased to be able to speak to you.

As advised, members who wish to contact the magazine with queries about content or delivery should write direct to the publisher at - [email protected]. I trust this proves useful.

So I will send them an email and see what response I get.

oh plus it is only published quarterly and I am sure it has not been around more than maybe just over a year so maybe the 4 editions i have received is about right.

How do they class the top 1% of frequent flyers? I was under the impression that the top 1% are all WP or CL anyway. I recall a thread that suggested that there were only about 35-40 thousand WP and about 10-15 thousand CL, with qantas topping the 7 million in members those numbers indicate everyone either WP or CL would be in the top 1% unl;ess they have had a significant increase in WP in the past couple of years. If they do have over 7,000,000 members then 1% represents 70,000 members which seems about right. I am thinking QF have once again created a weird system that ultimately alienates some top tier WP members somehow. If I am not a top 1% QFF with the spend and SC earn I have had over the past 4 years then I never will be. Maybe because I had a quiet Oct thru Feb when I never traveled due to my wife having triplets made them think different of me, even though I had already re-qualified by that stage. Maybe I will be back in favour soon with my forward confirmed bookings.

Not in my opinion. CL cannot be earned through travel etc. It can only be granted by the CEO of QF.

But surely, if you spend (or control) enough $$$ you "earn" CL, whether by invite or not.

Also, the benefits are better than WP, so surely it is a holy grail?

From what i know and read from these forums you do not earn CL automatically, there is a process involved to try to get it and it is not taken for granted because you control or spend $$$ you will get it.

I also beleive the benefits of CL over WP are not massively greater. I beleive apart from DOM CL lounges at some airports the priviliges are roughly the same apart from higher upgrade pecking order and probably op-up order.

I will never get CL in my lifetime unless I find a way to get close to Alan Joyce so WP is the holy grail for me and probably 99.80% of frequent flyers.

Hmmm. From memory I received the fisrt copy and nothing since.

I believe there is other criteria that determines who gets the magazine and who doesn't.

You are right, my simple maths is Platinum with Partner Gold gets you a look in, then...

Number of flights with direct SC earn on QF + annual spend with QF, the emphasis being on QF flights! FWIW, I also authorise 3-4 times my spend per annum with employees - QF is aware of this through surveys etc. Check your PM

Mr!

One could consider CL the Holy Grail as WP is easy to get, you just need to fly a lot but CL is almost unattainable and this would be more representative of a "Holy Grail".

YMMV

never thought of it that way but can see your point. having said that just flying a lot does nto guarantee WP status. It takes 70 return MEL-SYD in discoutn economy to attain WP thats a lot more flying than thr average person would do. Now of course a few J intl trips and you are there quite fast but it does cost you. i guess round the world tickets help but still costs. i wonder if it is possible to get WP in one single RTW in discoutn economy, that wodul be a challenge.
