Is Qantas Actually Listening?

Maybe you should change your handle? :p:p

QF need not concern themselves as I'm only Gold, heck they don't seem to listen to Plat 1 it would seem.

Apparently gold is actually their "most valuable" tier...

If they were doing real cost cutting spirits should be the first thing to go, instead of kill the relationship with the more frequent customers. In fact, given Qantas' race to match VA don't be surprised if spirits are cut.

Shut your mouth ;)

You don't want to know what they did to my drink one time...

FWIW, the spirits selection is a little "basic" for my tastes, but I occasionally indulge.

Really, how so?

I am not entirely sure, hence the word "apparently".

I think it is a combination of the the number of members, their revenue, cost to service and potential future revenue.

I suspect it is common that the "sweet spot" of many loyalty programs is the big group in the middle. They don't complain much, don't cost too much to service, but spend good money and are likely to keep spending the same or more.

Gotcha. I guess that group will become Silver after July 1st as members find it harder and harder to maintain status.

Replaced with all the WPs that start releasing their LTG parachute.........as we move to BA or any of the many other (better) FF schemes.

Good point. I'm so far off LTG (currently ~25% of the way there) that I didn't even think about it.

From a business perspective I have always thought the LTG offer dangerous to QF because it provides a limited incentive for FF's, but the more I think about it the more I believe that the lack of LTP will cost QF money. With the current changes and the prospect of Lifetime Emerald with other airlines there really is no incentive at all to stay with QF once LTG is reached for many international travellers. It has taken the decline of The MASA, which I fully understand, to take my handcuffs off and make me realise just how poor redemption rates are with QF.

Tomorrow sees two credit card cancellations for me as I move away from QF earn. :(

If so, why do QF offer P1?

To suck you in, that you are special.

FWIW, I find P1 to be useless... The benefits are fairly "absent" IME. It is no different to WP with a slightly shinier card...

But it was a great marketing trick as before P1, there was no incentive to go beyond 2400SC... People did mileage runs to get it (and swung credits from AA, BA, CX over to QF), so it "works"/"worked" from that perspective.
