So I will be flying to YVR tomorrow and am looking at connections to the US (seperate bookings). I’m travelling without bags and am not so stressed about missing a flight.

There is a connection I’ve found that departs an hour after my arrival into YVR. I had assumed I could exit the plane and go direct to US pre clearance at YVR.

I did a bit of research and the below from YVR says it applies to ‘eligible/participating airlines only’

The QF website is fairly silent on YVR > US

AusBT seems to indicate that I can

Does anybody have recent experience on connections to the us via YVR? I’m fairly confident I can make the connection If I can avoid going through Canada - less so if I do have to.

You're setting yourself up for failure only having an hour connection after a long haul flight on a separate booking.

QF75 landed two hours late today.

And it landed early the three times prior. I like them odds.

Lmao I specifically included in my original post that I’m “not so stressed about missing a flight.” If I was looking for advice on whether I had the time to make the connection I would’ve asked that - but it’s not what I asked.

Well in that case, roll the dice and let us know how it works out for you.

Moot now but I would say there's no way even if QF was eligible (I have no idea) because of the separate bookings tbh. QF would not through check to whatever carrier at the other end so you'd have to check in (yes, I now this can all be done on one's PDA) etc and clear Canadian immigration and then go over to US pre.

An hour? I've done this and I would not risk an hour. Even with not worrying about missing flights I wouldn't do it and allow 2-3 hours at the very least.

Still I hope it worked out :)

One hour for international connection in YVR? I love it. 😉

Hahahaha flying out tonight - will keep you all updated.

At this point I’m less stressed about missing my flight and more stressed about having to come back here and say you all were right.

How's that hour transit looking now? 😆

I'm sure this is an error but it's still funny...

I don’t think it’s an error. When the flight departs on time, it generally arrives early. I know it might surprise everybody who is following this but I did do a fair bit of research…

I’m resisting the urge to gloat untill im on the plane to the US at YVR. 😂

I think you missed the bit where it says you're landing in Tofino (Vancouver Island)

so given your final destination is in the US.. am I to conclude that the YVR flight is an award ticket and you couldn't get one through to wherever you're headed? does seem a bit of the longer way around to go somewhere in the US :)

Yes - and sort of, I was able to get a qf award on westjet tomorrow, but I had some aeroplan miles I wanted to use so it was just better for me to have seperate tickets.

well Enjoy your flight to Tofino or YVR or wherever....

the MLL at YVR is not too bad.. oh wait.. hour transit :D

Oh dear, QF75 did end up hitting the skies nearly an hour late, and is currently set to arrive.. yep.. an hour late.....

Oh. Such a disappointment. Maybe things will improve in the fullness of time.

It seems to have picked up pace during the flight and is now due in 10 or so minutes late now which is pretty impressive.

Following - noting departures are sometimes “delayed” to meet arrival slot time if winds are weak/strong (pending direction of travel)……

(Edit: noting everyone posting in this thread will know that already…..)
