Is QF ever likely to fly into Dubai again?

They don’t have the crew or planes, same boat as everyone else. Oh and slots.
I’m sure if an airline asked to fly to BNE, ADL or PER (probably even MEL), the states would bend over backwards to throw slots at them.

Let's not confuse "slots" (restrictions at a specific airport imposed by the airport itself) with route/capacity restrictions in an Air Services Agreement between the Australian Government and the foreign government.

Slots for a European airline operating a daily flight into any Australian city are pretty much assured, based on the New Entrant rule.

In the case of Finnair, Australia has the right for 2800 seats/week for services to Finland, I can't find the actual agreement so I assume Finland has the reciprocal rights, which would easily accommodate a daily widebody into Sydney.

So no, Slots by whatever definition are not a restriction.

Not slots into AU.
EU / UK airports were threatening to cancel slots not being used during and post Covid. Those airlines / airports still not back to capacity might have short term win-win options.

Perhaps but no one has because…. (Wayyyy off topic). Same situation in AU with Sydney threatening VA2 and Rex lobbying publicly to snaffle up their unused slots - nothing happened because….

Odd submission if they’re making higher commissions of higher fares...? 😳

Didn't know TA's still earnt commission from selling flights. 🤣 (I know, they still do earn meagre commissions on international fares).

Higher fares could well mean travellers have less to spend on packages, accommodation etc which is where TA's make their real money. Or people don't travel at all and therefore packages to sell.

I am sure most TA's make more money out of 2 travellers paying $1500 return to Europe than 1 traveller paying $3000 return - even though there commission is almost certainly larger on the latter than the former (particularly on carriers that have surcharges).

We know that QF cut comissions hugely to TA's - IIRC it went from 5% to 1%. Perhaps EK pays more - so that would be incentive for them.....

Regarding Singapore, Qantas doesn't use it as a hub. They offer point-to-point flights within Asia, not connecting flights in Singapore. However, Singapore is a popular layover for Australia-Europe flights, and Qantas benefits by selling codeshare flights on Emirates' services. Its my personal opinion.

It's certainly not a full hub, but could be described as a mini-hub, similar to AKL, and previously, LAX (the former replacing the latter). It means QF can consolidate pax from BNE and MEL onto QF1/2 from SYD, in addition to other JQi flights. Furthermore, onward flights to JQ Asia can be booked as connecting flights.

Going forward, perhaps SYD and MEL will get A350 flights non-stop to LHR, and BNE will get a "direct" flight stopping in SIN, allowing SYD/MEL pax to connect there to LHR.

Qantas won't fly to Dubai anymore. They focus on direct flights to London and Europe, and don't need a stopover in Dubai. Emirates, their codeshare partner, already dominates Dubai, leaving little competition for Qantas.

Qf do use SIN as a connecting hub for 3K as they have alot of QF codeshares.

You may as well say SYD is a hub. As fat as Qf is concerned SIN is not a hub. There is only one QF onward leg and that is to LHR. On the other hand DXB is a Hub for EK, with lots of onward EK flights.

They went there, the people spoke and wanted Singapore not Dubai.

Never say never but QF tried and the passengers didn’t want it. I’m sure some of the cultural ‘rules’ don’t help.

Me personally, not interested in Dubai.

I don't think people were suggestion it is a full on hub, but it certainly is a "mini-hub" for the Qantas group. It has 5-6 daily QF metal services between Australia and SIN (+ 1 JQ), and you are right it only has one onward QF metal service but it does carry a lot of people onwards on Jetstar Asia (which is part of the group) and various QF coded services on codeshare partners to CDG, AMS, HEL, HND, CMB & DXB. I think as much a function of geography as passenger preferences for SIN over DXB, as it is much closer and quicker to reach from Australia, allowing it to support an extra daily SYD (and MEL some days) + BNE and PER services which weren't feasible for DXB.

I do like DXB as a hub because I can go to several European cities without the dreaded LHR connection. LHR could also mean one less flight and several hours longer travel.
