Is QF now filling the F cabin?

I'm sure AJ would love to shut down the rest of the network and just run SYD-LHR and SYD-LAX if they could get away with it..

Being Melbourne-based, I've absolutely no doubt that he would if he could, too!

BD

I haven't missed on a points upgrade request for ages (touch wood)!

I have another in for this Sunday SYD-HKG J > F but there's only a couple of seats left so I'm guessing it will be touch 'n go this time.... It's actually amazing how many times this week I have found myself logging in to check if the points have been deducted as yet! (Last trip a couple of months ago I noticed a few days out that the points had come out of my account but received a text only the day or so)

That is a popular route, considering QF have the best F product on offer with the only A380. They've always made money on that route specifically, even back in the 744 days. I'm sure AJ would love to shut down the rest of the network and just run SYD-LHR and SYD-LAX if they could get away with it.

Matter of time before QF only fly those 2 routes!

Yes it is annoying on some respects, however EVERY international flight i have done, i have been offered at some point to upgrade a non upgradeable ticket - and succeeded every time. Last was in July with 2 J seats SIN-SYD.

I would suggest you have been extremely fortunate.

I think QF are filling the cabin where they can, ie:

QF11 tomorrow

F/0 A/0 P/0

QF93 tomorrow

F/1 A/0 P/0

QF has been filling the F cabin since the upgrade changes!

Means more upgrades
Means more happy people
Means more burning of FF points

It works well

Good on them

Yes you seem very fortunate...how is the upgrade offer forthcoming? Is it offered by email each time?

Semi-serious question. It has long been the bug bear of QFF elites that we are unable to secure confirmed upgrades on QFi at time of booking and previously QF would let seats go empty rather than process late points upgrades.
I would say that IME since the upgrade process was changed/ improved a couple of years ago I have noticed a significant increase in my successful points upgrades and that also on the vast majority of these flights the A380 F cabin is full. Prior to the changes my upgrades were certainly less plentiful but the cabin frequently had vacant seats.
I would be interested to know if the collective experience here on AFF has been the same as my own.
I would also be interested to know if anyone thinks that if QFF are now filling the F cabin could/should there be a pool of seats available for confirmed upgrades at time of request?
The other thing to keep in mind (unfortunately), is that demand for F seats has been very low since 2007. Prices are much lower now than they were then esp if you buy when sales are on, but even "rack" rates are much lower than previously. I assume that eventually demand will return and then there will be a reduction in available upgrades.....

Did you book direct with QF in those instances out of curiosity?

There have been some significantly discounted sale fares in both First and Business over the last six month - that's one way to fill the cabins

What prices are we talking (ballpark)? How do they compare to "standard" pricing?

There is a sale on at the moment - just go and plug in some destinations and have a look. E.g. SYD-hong kong is on sale in F at around 7,500 compared to 10,000 saver and 12,500 full.

BA NF on the 777 is $3760 to SIN atm.

Great Scots (pun intended)! That gives even J on almost every carrier a run for its money (again pun intended!). That's return or one-way (wouldn't matter, still a run for money...)?

They had MEL-LAX return for $9999 in F a few months back and it was not seasonal, you could book any date for the following 12 months.
Usual standard pricing with QF is around $13-16k.

Does not match my experience (paying more, not getting upgrade). We all have different experiences.

My stance has not changed (despite some keen points of view by anat0l) :)

IMHO,

Could be good business for QF and all airlines to put paxs in the highest possible cabin they can.

If someone starts travelling in F and like it they will try and work out a way to try and always get into F.

Can create more loyalty for the brand.

That is what the American Airlines do collectively as a group...

It creates a sense of entitlement.
