Is QF now filling the F cabin?

FWIW, it seems to me that on legacy carriers most USA citizens rarely purchase First/Business class fare outright...

I remember an occasion where the desk staff at the IAD Admirals Club made a big fuss over a gentleman entering at the same time as me a couple of years ago - because they noted that he had actually purchased an F fare. The staff deemed this so significant that they gave him a couple of drink vouchers as a thank-you.

Apart from the bigger seat there is not a lot of difference between F and Y on domestic flights, probably because so little is actually paid for.

I guess it can depend on the airline... but I love AA domestic first... tasty meal and free drinks... big step up from coach. (granted US Air only serves meals on flights longer than 3.5 hours.)

in fact the free drinks alone are a big step up on any of the legacy carriers.

as for people paying (or not) for domestic first I agree there must be a big reliance on free upgrades. (except for transcontinental which is pretty lucrative for the airlines)

a few years ago my YUPP trumped 48 on the upgrade list for an ORD-LAX flight to take the last two F seats (held for last minute sales). there must have been several EXPs on that list.

Pretty much as I said - they had been wait listed ( or whatever the term is) for upgrades at the gate and didn't get them and were complaining very loudly about not getting them and then adding in a comment about why could that girl have got an upgrade when they didn't. It didn't seem to occur to them that she was booked in F not upgraded....It happened twice with similar remarks both times. The names for upgrades come up on a screen at the gate and there was always a large no listed, so I think people are very accustomed to getting them and resentful when they don't. Apart from the bigger seat there is not a lot of difference between F and Y on domestic flights, probably because so little is actually paid for.

How rude and inappropriate.

We only got a meal on 2 of the sectors we did (I selected the salad option both times and it was very nice) - all the other sectors were under 2 hours and we had no meal. We don't drink much so the free drinks didn't matter to us, so that didn't really come into the equation. I was quite happy (obviously) to do F as it was included in the AONE4, but I am not sure I would pay for it and definitely not on most of the sectors we did. Compared to J on Qantas domestic, I thought it was not as good a product - they even do food between Canberra and Sydney and Mr FM always turns it down :) The staff were very pleasant on AA - both in the lounges and on the plane.

F on AA, even 3 class planes if it's not the new product, absolutely sux!

I recall the FA doing one drink service, no hot food offered JFK-LAX (even though there were hot meals in J) and no ice cream sundae, just a warm cookie.

After the service the FA literally sat in her seat, put a pink blanket over her legs and watched movies on her iPad and SMSd on her phone. Later, I noticed several FAs watching the movie with her.

There were only 2 F pax, and one non rev FA, but I was still shocked and though if this happened on QF they would be fired. I wouldn't even see this kind of behaviour on MS!

My experience on AA F in the transcon is fortunately much better
One red-eye, one lunch, one dinner.
Both lunch and dinner had the infamous sundae

With a Bailey's chaser of course ;)
Have another coming up in Dec, lunch flight and looking forward to it.

ha! qantas is not immune. I wrote previously about a flight earlier this year... business class SYD-MEL... cabin only about 1/3 full.. the inflight manager sat on the jump seat for most of the flight just staring out at the cabin and only deigned to get up to serve the bread. couldn't even get up to assist with a coffee service or to great passengers. it was an embarrassment to the other two crew working their socks off to serve us in time.

That sundae looks super sickly sweet, as well as very large in size. Or does the photography exaggerate its size?

Then again, in the US, there's only two sizes for meals. Big and bigger. Fit for a Princess(Fiona).

Best flight I had was out of Aruba on AA. They wouldn't stop throwing drink at me......

On the subject of F upgrades on AA, I noted that all of the 3 class transcons I have flown have had empty seats in the F cabin, J full. I wonder if AA only upgrade Y-J?

they have this sycophantic view of the military as demigods as usually throw them an upgrade first. I don't expect to understand this!

Thought they were a tad more gentle than throwing drinks...

I had a lovely FA named Pamela on my last MIA/LAS AA flight whom repeatedly performed a dry ice 'trick" in between keeping the desirable fluids flowing on an evening flight between the meal service.
Much to the cosy J cabin's amusement.

It's very large in size, the Bailey's miniature is in there deliberately for size comparison.
I've always believed that anything consumed at 36,000 FT has ZERO calories

I wonder if they're considering twice daily on some days with the arrival of the new A380s...? I know SYD-HKG is getting a Monday A380 taking it to 5 weekly.

A little OT, but the increase in A380's to HKG is as a result of better A380 utilisation, not new arrivals. I think you will find new arrivals are still a few years off (think last word was 2016/17)
