Is the weather at OOL airport that bad?

My stepson was booked to MCY this morning from Melb on a saver fare- which I believe left as planned. Called VA last night after reading the website that flights could be changed (T&C apply... but not posted) Changed flight to Wed morning, for $4 difference in fare- could have held for a supervisor to override, but after 15 mins on hold at the start of the call, I knew how busy they were.
I'd booked the original ticket through zuji, no issues with calling VA direct.
I thought that was great service.

There may have been sarcasm in my post.

And no I do not want to risk my life but my travel is essential and if the airlines are flying then I am going to do everything possible to get to work tomorrow. People can see this as a whinge but to me it is a lot more important. I have no sick days and no annual leave and I cannot afford to lose 4 days pay.

And no use offering me another flight to use by 4th February and no point refunding my $39 either as I have another flight coming back on Fri and then going back again next Sunday.

So if you have to fly I would be on the line to VA to see what options they have for you, as the weather starts to improve in Queensland but go downhill in Sydney with strong winds forecast tonight, the Airtrain in Brisbane is not working as a a number of public transport options and its likely they will shut down early tonight like last night with the impending floods, coming back from OOL that will be another consideration given they are on a Sunday timetable already.

The weather is clearing in the northern suburbs, much higher cloud and just a bit of wind. Off to check the creek

Not sure where you are at but have you considered hiring a car?

I should have done that yesterday instead of heading off to the airport.,

So I have little hope of getting to Spring Hill from BNE airport. It does not worry me that trains from Gold Coast are on a Sunday timetable but what does worry me is the time I may get in to OOL airport.

Oh well. If it is not meant to be then it is not meant to be....

Yes VA have cancelled but the airport is open at MCY.One JQ flight has landed and the first JQ flight from MEL today(they have 3 to VAs 1) is advertised as being 25 minutes late.

The tree in the middle of the photo below is still in my property, so I now have my own private harbour and the Nerang River is still on the rise!

I heard a figure of 140KM/h winds being a reason for OOL closure ;)

The lake in front of my house is very high, but not the highest it's been before. I now have an infinity swimming pool.

From Sydney? My eyes would only last an hour before I would have to stop driving.

Not sure that is a good idea right now. If I managed to get on the 4:19pm it is scheduled to get into BNE sometime tomorrow morning but I have a funny feeling tracks will be closed around Gold Coast and Brisbane.

Mine was $4.5k, 10 years ago. Went full stainless in the belief it would be easier to keep clean......it isn't. If I had my time agian, I'd go $150 Big W specials and "retire" them perhaps more frequently.

Nope they're no good the burners are too small and too far away from the plate. You can't get decent heat into the food and it costs heaps extra in gas.

I am on the 5:10pm VA SYD-OOL flight. The 5:00pm SYD-BNE has been cancelled so I think someone has merged 2 flights. I have been told it is more than likely to land in BNE anyway. The last 2 VA SYD-OOL flights have departed although a little late.

Personally, BNE is a better alternative for me with these weather conditions.

One of the interesting things I noticed over the past few days was that VA cancelled all their flights, giving advanced notice to everybody (ie I can stay at home and sleep in), however some of the other airlines (JQ, Air Asia, Scoot) seem to have the "let's wait around and see if it gets better" approach. Waiting around with a plane full of people, rather than sending them home is a sure fire way to get passengers fired up. It's an optimistic approach, and you may get a gap in the weather to takeoff, but you've got x plane loads of passengers waiting around in the terminal. It's a lot easier to have customers call up from home and rebook, rather than queuing at the airport. I'm going to have a stab in the dark here and say that Virgin's checkin desks/gates are dead silent, while Jetstar's are bursting full of people?

I was suppose to fly up to OOL yesterday, rebooked for Tuesday and now it looks like I may have to push that back further. Others may disagree, but I'd rather stay in the comfort of my home, rather than driving to the airport and waiting for x hours for the "chance" to get to my destination.

When you say advance notice you do mean the traveller needs to check the website?
