Some would say the most important part, and they may well say that, but I couldn't possibly comment.

Whilst on the topic, I haven't heard of any International DYKWIA Conferences recently. I can't imagine that I didn't get an invite.

The predilection of some members to mention and thus parade their high status in various airline and hotel programmes has bemused me for a full decade.
Do I qualify??
In the main the members here are a jolly good bunch who are ip for fun , a joke ( even at their own expense) and understand this status thing is a transient thing.
Many (like me) who have supped at higher status during a gruelling work career and descended gracefully following retirement - and loving it!!

This thread has caused me to add my status, have been a member for 2 yrs and not done it for some reason. I think it helps, but it you visit often enough you know who the regukars and experts are. Mere mortals like me just contribute when I can:lol:

If you don't like the question, or don't want to contribute in a positive manner, then move on to the next thread. The OP asked a legitimate question and deserves the same respect as any other member asking a legitimate question.

I can't speak for others but my status (which has been up and down over time) is displayed because it may affect an answer to a question I ask. I would also mention it in the question if I remembered to. No self-aggrandisement - it wouldn't cut it as a gold anyway when there are so many plats and above on the board. :)

That's exactly what I was going to say. The answer I provide to a question might vary depending on the status of the asker eg "which lounge can I access"; the answer is going to be status dependent.

Sometimes it is the lack of status in certain programs (but not in others) that make the point...

Happy wandering

PS MEL_traveler - Unless mandated by legislation, a shareholder might have some thing to say at the AGM if it were determined that the company's employees were regularly flying $10K fares when roughly equivalent $2K fares were available. At least in any company I would want to hold shares...

I was thinking more of cheap options like Finnair business class ex Australia to Europe (rather than QF direct), or cheap business class ex Asia (granted, with a slightly longer transit time), or even buying miles.

'I only fly Qantas' is potentially a lot easier to say when someone else is paying!

Why do they do it?

For the same reason some people put down their location as Brisbane while others resort to YBBN.

My wife is certain that I am a bit wound up in this game......

So is she prepared to give up her seat in the pointy end?

I don't have any issue in people promoting status. I was super excited to get to my new Q status level as I don't do much flying personally, so to achieve this through judicious use of a multitude of schemes (learnt through AFF ;)) was exciting. I'd been at that level before but only because MrP's level of flying had dragged up my status.

I take notice of other's status and try to work out how they do it. Maybe sometimes I get tired of the sense of entitlement that a very few posters have displayed.

YBBN is the ICAO code for Brisbane, whereas BNE is the IATA code.

(ICAO = international Civial Aviation Organisation)

Ah. I get it. Almost wanky then. If it wasn't an FF forum. (Can I even say that here? )
