I have had a little bit of luck recently but then something happened last week that changed all of that and the all the good that happened recently are now but a distant memory.

Murphy waits for me around every street corner....

John - why don't you try a positive attitude? Everyone has ups and downs in their life but you seem to have a victim mentality.

Totally agree with you although that is a flaw of OCD and chronic depression.

Everyone has ups and downs in their life but you seem to have a victim mentality.
As for ups and downs lets just say that it is not that clear cut. I do mot consider myself a victim at all, and never will, but the ups and downs in my life are so disproportiate it is beyond belief. One measly op-up BNE-SYD means nothing when you suffer from a severe form of aggresive arthritis that has no cure. And if that was all it would be OK but it does not stop there.

It is a fact. I am not making it up and I am not asking for sympathy. I try my best and just when I think things are turning the corner something serious happens to dampen the attitude. Life is not fair and if it was not for the little faith that I do have left it would be a total waste of time.

for what it is worth JohnK I am certain that you have a lot of well-wishers and goodwill from this site and elsewhere.

I have been a long time lurker and always appreciated your input on this forum, and am sure I am not the only one in this regard.

Sometimes it is hard to appreciate community when we feel alone in our struggles,
whatever run of poor luck you are going through I hope you you find your way out of it.

John, I too, with many other here , wish you a quick and lasting recovery.

I wish I had a simple fix for you but only can offer spiritual support.

I have a surpise tonight for the Golf Day and was looking forward to sharing it with you.
but will share it with the organizing committee tonight, at drinks , in Brisbane.

No long aftere being diagnosd with Type 2 Diabetes I ended up with chicken pox last week. :( My mother is almost certain I have had chicken pox so I am now one of those lucky people to get them twice.

Anyway it has been a fun week to say the least. Just as well my father was already up in Brisbane with me otherwise I would not have been able to cope. And if chicken pox was where it ended all would be Ok but there have been a series of complications which cannot be explained other than to say they are caused by the combination of chicken pox and long term use of immune suppresants which means no more methotrexate for me. It is bad enough now and I cannot imagine what it would be like in a few weeks time.

I have been in Brisbane Hospital for 6 days now (one day also at St Andrews) and apart from chicken pox I was also diagnosed with urinary tract infection and liver that is in a fair amount of trouble but was fin 3 months ago.

So if Chicken pox was not enough, urinary tract infection and shot liver I have also received a bill from St Andrews for ~$340 for their non treatment. I have a letter from them that I would not be charged a gap of more than $240+ but I now get a bill for ~$340 odd. What did they actually do? They had a letter from a local doctor in Brusbane to do some blood tests (as I was originally complaining of chest and stomach pains) and an abdominal CT. St Andrews in all it's wisdom decided that giving some anti inflmmatory would solve the issue. If the morons had done what they were supposed to do then I may not have suffered for another 24 hours and chicken pox would have been diagnosed the next morning. But that is my luck and this is one fight I am taking to the health ombudsman.

I did not have much sick leave, used up the remainder of my annual leave and also had to take 6 days unpaid leave. Not easy to balance things when things like this happens unexpectedly but we are getting away from the story.

Now my company has not bothered to ask me what hospital I am visiting, how my health is progressing and have not bothered to try and send me a get well card and some flowers. Not that I need them but it would be a nice thought. This is a company that thinks it is promoting a team environmment. It is not a company I want to work for anymore. Also just to put things into context the infrustructure manager's wife (who does not even work for our company) had a fender bender recently and an email was sent around to all IT so that all our prayer's with her. Surely they are joking.

Welcome to what is loosely known as my life....

Sorry to hear all of that, but sounds like a very good case to take up with a lawyer to get all you can out of the coughs :p

Doesn’t sound like a very nice company.

Hope you get well soon!

chin up mate... when ever you are feeling down always think about those who are in much worse situations than you.

From my own experience... I can tell you, you WILL pull through this.

So true. This guy was walking down the road one day without any shoes and whinging and complaining that he is never lucky and would love to have a pair of shoes. He then came across a bloke with no legs. Well who needs shoes anyway....

A great attitude John. :D

Good to see you can still laugh even when things are not all roses.

John, noted your comments on leave etc, once you hit 7 days there is sickness allowance from the government, hardly big $$$ but its something you are entitled to that many people are aware off. Hope the info helps, get well!

John, I'm not your doctor but it sounds like you need to be on an alcohol free diet for your liver's sake. When you have recovered from the chicken pox, weight loss will help both your diabetes and arthritis. Have you considered seeing a dietitian to work out an appropriate wt loss diet? as well as a fitness instructor for an exercise program? You will be amazed as to what wt loss does for diabetes, BP and to a lesser extent your arthritis....posted to be helpful (not judgemental)

PS: Generally, once you have had chicken pox, it is extremely rare to get it again; maybe being immunosupressed by methotrexte is a risk factor.
