Is there anything else that can happen to me?

That truly sounds bad. Very sorry to hear it all.
Do you work for government? That team stuff reminded me of working for government where they aim to be an employer of choice and attract highest standard of professional people. But can't even bother to compete on pay and conditions with other government departments.

chin up mate... when ever you are feeling down always think about those who are in much worse situations than you.

From my own experience... I can tell you, you WILL pull through this.

chin up mate...

I thought that was going to be a monty python quote.
chin up mate - cheer up brian

John,
I don't know you that well but I have read a lot of your posts and always found them of value,if it means anything at all I have a great deal of sympathy for you,my 2010 has been an "annus horribilis" so far,my business went to the wall,my mum passed away,my diabetes went haywire and my April wedding didn't happen, and worst of all Geelong didn't make the grand final, but hey,I'm still alive and kicking and I'm back to haunt AFF for a few weeks till my holiday in Hong Kong.
I hope things get better for you mate-stay strong, and send me a PM if you need to rant about things.
Take care mate.
Cheers
Nigel

Thanks for all the well wishes not just on this thread but the PMs I have received.

Got out of hospital yesterday and spend the afternoon and night at my apartment with no serious side effects. I have been on the mend for a week or so but need to continue the medication for the next week or so possibly a little longer.

Yes chicken pox in adulthood can be very difficult to deal with and the only reason I was admitted to hospital was due to the immune suppresants I have been on for long time. Let's just say that no more methotrexate for me and even though the liver is on the mend no more alcohol for a while. :(

Now with my confidence shot to bits (and still finding it hard to stay on my feet) I need to head off to the airport in a couple of hours for a flight to Sydney this afternoon. I have never been so scared of a flight all my life. :(

Hopefully I will be right to head off to Thailand on Friday for some much needed rest before returning back to work,

I am sure Thailand and a bit of golf will make the difference. All the best.
You probably would have smiled at a T shirt I saw yesterday here in Dallas-
"I was thinking I had a drinking problem,
So I gave up thinking."

Unfortunately I am still in no condition to travel and the planned trip had to be aborted. Had to cancel/change the remainder of my flights at a cost of >AUD1,000 as I was lucky enough to be in between annual travel insurance policies when I was struck down by the virus.

Still in bed feelng very weak and recovering (I think/I hope) ever so slowly. At least most of the pains associated with the virus have gone but all I seem to be doing is sleeping most of the time and I can hardly stand upright for more than a minute or so.

Not much fun and can't wait for the day when I can get back on my feet....

I'm guessing you meant unlucky there!

Oh and one other thing John,
We need you to hurry up and get better, you have to start the 325,000th and 350,000th post threads!

Recouperation not going so well.

Still very weak and struggling to stand up for more than a few minutes at a time. Losing 13-14kgs has probably not helped recouperation although may be beneficial in the long run.

Don't want to go through anything like this again in a hurry. :(

Good to hear that there’s at least a small positive from the experience, the weight loss…

My life just keeps getting worse by the day.

I am still in bed trying to recover, not able to work and run out of sick leave and annual leave, paying rent for an apartment I am not using, in dispute with a hospital over a sizeable bill and not doing enough to look after me, holiday ruined and lose a significant amount of money on cancellation fees and rebooking flights and now receive 2 ambulance bills $900+ each. They say bad things happen in threes but I think I have passed my quota.

Are they serious? Both the doctor and the hotel manager said I would not have to pay for the ambulance. For what the ambulance did for me I could have easily booked a taxi for each occasion. In fact the second time I had booked a taxi and it was waiting out the front of the Mill when the hotel manager convinced me to get an ambulance instead. :(

Are you paying for electricity at your unit, it would prove with no doubt that you are a Queensland Resident that has free Ambulance cover. As would your lease for that matter.

http://www.ambulancecover.qld.gov.au/faqs/scheme/index.shtml

On 1 July 2003 the Queensland Government introduced the Community Ambulance Cover levy as the most effective method to ensure all Queenslanders are covered for ambulance services anywhere in Australia.
The levy is a broad-based charge, using the system of supply and sale of electricity as the basis for its imposition and collection. This means that anyone occupying premises which receive a supply of electricity will be liable for the levy. Community Ambulance Cover is not a 'user-pays' system for ambulance services. No matter who pays for the electricity supplied to your business or household, the levy ensures that all Queensland residents are automatically covered for the cost of emergency ambulance services, anywhere in Australia

Isn’t ambulance cover included in ones electricity bills these days? Perhaps it’s an automated bill, and as soon as you dispute it, they’ll give up.

Edit: as noted above.

Just send the bill back with one of the following:

If you are an Adult

  • A copy of current photographic identification which includes the current principal place of residence in Queensland. For example, a drivers licence; or
  • A copy of a current statement from a bank or financial institution showing the current principal place of residence and the name of the institution. Please ensure that the period of the statement covers the date of the ambulance treatment/transport provided; or
  • A copy of a current Queensland Seniors Card showing the name and card number recorded with the Department of Communities; or
  • A copy of a current Queensland issued Centrelink Pension Concession Card; or
  • A copy of a current Queensland issued Centrelink Health Care Card; or
  • A statutory declaration, which includes the current principal place of residence in Queensland.

I get complimentary electricity as I live in a hotel although I do have a lease agreement. I guess the Ambulance Service sent me the bill as my drivers licence had a NSW address and I told them I live in NSW and work in Queensland.

Just send the bill back with one of the following:
Unbelievable that other than the lease agreement I have nothing to prove that I live in Queensland.

Silly me I got all worked up and worried for nothing even though mum offered to pay most of the bill anyway.

I have Hospital Cover and Extras with Medibank Private and when I went to their website there was some exclusion/confusion on ambulance cover for Qld and Tas. Just goes to prove do not believe everything you read on the internet.

I called Medibank half an hour ago and was shocked when I was told that as a NSW resident I am covered for ambulance cover all over Australia and just to take the bill(s) to the nearest Medibank Private office for endorsement and then call the Ambulance provider.

Great news. Apparently Medibank Private covers the full bill of necessary ambulance transport and I guess I can concince them that the ambulance transport was necessary in the condition that I was in at the time.

Yep, most private health insurance policies cover emergency ambulance use (aside from, I guess QLD and TAS.).

Once upon a time it was as a rebate on an "ambulance Subscription" but as the state authorities kept increasing the subscriptions to amounts beyond that what an actuary (or bookmaker) would consider reasonable, the private insurance companies changed to emergency ambulance cover.

JohnK,

it is really good news that at least this is falling into place for you. Maybe this is the start of a turn in your fortunes.
