Our Government at work.
The pretence of ‘doing something’ maybe!Given that Italy has closed it's own borders with no one allowed in or out, I'm not sure what the point of Australia blocking travel in Italy is.
Block the roads, stop the ferries and trains!Hundreds or flights still departed or arrived in Italy today so there must be some people getting in or out or are they all ghost flights?
With no passport control in the EU I’m struggling to see how officials can stop the flow in or out of the country via road, sea or rail
Unfortunately, it could indeed be the case.I suspect we will be joining them in the near future @Renato1

I was talking to my aunt tonight, and I realised what I wrote above was incorrect.I was just talking to my cousin in Italy who is going stir crazy after being stuck at home with her husband for two weeks, with at least two weeks to go (and probably more).
The current travel restrictions allow her to only go to the closest supermarket, and then wait in turn to get in, as only limited numbers are allowed in at one time.
Those with dogs are allowed to walk them to a maximum of 200 meters from home.
No running allowed on the streets for exercise.
The only people working are those in the health sector and those making and moving essential supplies.
And the only shops open are the essential ones namely,
supermarkets, pharmacies, banks, post offices, insurance companies and tobacconists.
Pretty strict.

Renato
Anything on the shutdown? Extended again or opening tomorrowI was talking to my aunt tonight, and I realised what I wrote above was incorrect.
People actually have to go to the closest supermarket within their town's boundary.
So, in the case of many of my cousins, the supermarket that they are lawfully allowed to go to - one at a time, twice per week (no couples allowed) - is one that is about six or seven kilometers away from them. To go to their closest supermarket which is about one kilometer away - in another town's area - they have to obtain special written permission, or face 300 Euro fines.

Renato
I didn't ask, sorry.Anything on the shutdown? Extended again or opening tomorrow
Interesting thanks.Spoke to our friends in Pigra- they are hanging in well. There are no virus cases in the village. The shop is now doing home deliveries. They cut the conversation short to make sure they got their order in for smokes & red wine!
Same as Aust, people from Milan wanting to come up to their holiday house. I think the opening of shutters in previously empty houses makes it easier for them to detect people breaking the rules over there
